Greetings from Milan, MIchigan. We have had our brand spanking new Corolla Cross Hybrid for exactly one week now. We pretty much went as inexpensive as possible with the Model S version. Absolutely blows my mind that the AVERAGE new motor vehicle price is right at $48K!! We are replacing a 2010 Prius we purchased used in 2014 and did not want to give up the reliability and mileage. We do not purchase a new vehicle often at all and couldn't stomach a car payment almost as much as our house payment. We waited almost 3 months for delivery. Not a big deal as we were not pressed for vehicles(We have sold the Prius already). The only extras we added was a factory accessory mount to accept our Thule bike rack and Toyota Cross car mats, and door edge anti scratch protector thingys. Our Car was out the door priced at $33K with all fees/taxes included. We made a $15K down payment and financed $19K at 6.49% for 60 months. So many nice, sensible features are standard that we will be a long time discovering all the cool stuff. it can do. Only been a week, so far, so good. Nice sensible review

We've had our Corolla Cross Hybrid XSE for three months now and love it. It only took about three weeks to get it...we reserved one that was already being shipped to the dealer. We are getting about 38-39 mpg with our combination of suburban and freeway driving but our gasoline SUV (2017 Hyundai Tucson) driving under the same conditions only gets about 23-24 mpg plus the CCH has much more power and is more fun to drive. We replaced a 2013 Nissan Altima, which got good gas mileage (27 mpg around town) but was really unsafe to drive on the freeway having a large blind-spot. Being retired and a bit more physically limited, we love all of the safety features that come standard with the CCH. The car almost drives itself.

@@birhanhaile9525 Around $38K with taxes and everything included. It had all the bells and whistles on it. We first considered the RAV4 hybrid, but really wanted a smaller SUV so this Corolla Cross Hybrid was just right...like Goldilocks.

Excellent video! Questions: 1) I wonder if not having a spare tire could be an issue. Also, what's in the tire repair kit?; 2) I hear Corolla Cross Hybrids are in short supply. Do we expect to see more coming any time soon? Thank you!
@normanwells27558 ай бұрын
It would be a piece of mind issue for me so I decided I would get a space saver spare and put it on the floor in the back and tie it down with the cargo net and some ratchet straps. The tire repair kit is only a plug-in air compressor and a bottle of sealant. I carry one of those anyway for slow leaks. It doesn't include a jack and wrench but I usually carry better ones than the manufacturers supply. A spare could be accommodated in the usual space if you move a wiring box for the rear motor. I don't know if that would void warranty. Now, after agonizing over the spare tire issue for months, I finally ordered one and they say 7 to 11 months. Although someone may cancel their order allowing me to get one sooner.

Thank you for the wonderful content and in depth analysis. What would be your choice between Corolla Cross Hybrid 2025 vs Rav4 Hybrid 2025? Considering Corolla Cross Hybrid may get mid cycle refresh in 2025 and Rav4 seems outdated and may not get next generation model until 2026?

Conventional Front wheel drive but what drives the rear wheels - an electric motor or a drive shaft / transfer case?
@damionmandy79788 ай бұрын
Electric motor drives the rear wheels
@miked81218 ай бұрын
@@damionmandy7978 I believe there are 2 electric motors in the rear, one for each wheel. There is also a bigger motor in front for driving in EV mode. This car really is partially electric with a 1.3 KWH battery behind the back seat.
@rlderemer7 ай бұрын
@@miked8121Wrong, there is a single motor and conventional differential in the rear. There are 2 motors in the front, MG1 (motor/generator) is used as the starter motor, and the rest of the time it is a generator that replaces the alternator, keeping the hybrid battery charged, providing electric power to MG2 and enabling the continuous variable transmission function. MG2 is the second front motor that helps drive the front wheels. All 3 motors are used for regenerative braking which slows the car and helps charge the battery.

The CCH uses a 2 liter engine with 5th generation Prius hybrid power train. The RAV 4 uses an older 2.5 liter engine with 4th generation hybrid power train. If you check out the latest RAV 4, it seems to be getting bigger and is no longer a sub compact SUV.

It depends what you're going for. The RAV is gonna have more leg room in the back seats and a bit more trunk space. The RAV priced the same as this won't be a hybrid though, so the gas mileage will probably be closer to 27 mpg while the cross hybrid is 38 mpg.

The gasoline engine is already very efficient. The hybrid adds lots of complications for very little marginal gain.
@ohio_nights8 ай бұрын
What I've heard is the standard has significant cabin noise that is erased in the hybrid. No clue if that's accurate or not, just wanted to relay as a reason people might be opting for the hybrid.
@miked81218 ай бұрын
I don't know about the marginal gain but on my CCH, I get an easy 35 MPG on both roads and highways in real world driving. The CCH is also significantly faster (7.3 seconds to 60) than my Crosstrek. The CCH also uses a front motor to get the car rolling from a dead stop before the engine kicks in although it feels simultaneous and will make the ICE engine last a lot longer. I love driving around our neighborhood, drive thru's, and parking lots in EV only mode. The car is whisper quiet.

I keep hearing that but it also makes it simpler. No alternator, no starter, no drive belt, technically no transmission, brakes arent used near as much so less brake replacement.
