Great review, I bought the hybrid XSE for my wife as a city car. She mostly use to drive the kids to/from school, music/sports lessons, groceries, errands, shopping etc. The car's loud at high RPMs but that's expected from a compact car. But for city car, this is perfect. I'll also add one thing I like about this particular hybrid is that the the high-voltage hybrid cable is located in tthe trunk, where the spare tire supposed to be. You sacrifice the spare tire at the expense of the cable getting rust and corrosion after few years. If you google Toyota cablegate, you will see the current hybrid design (RAV4, Venza, Highlander etc.) all have serious rusting issues after 2-3 years and it is costly to fix ($5-6k). This issue is more prevalent in areas with heavy snow (salt used on roads or heavy rain fall (moisture trap inside the cable housing) and will cause serious corrosion to the cable due to the design where the cable is underneath the car. Because I tend to keep my cars for long periods of time, I want something that's reliable which is why I got this CC hybrid. All in all, I'll summarize in few bullet points 1. Great fuel economy 2. Good city car, good for daily errands 3. Hybrid cable design is more reliable compared to other hybrids like the RAV4, Highlander, Venza 4. The transmission is a e-CVT, not the traditional CVT Overall, If you are not an aggressive driver, not picky about handling, cornering, just looking to get a good reliable car from point A to B. This is the car!

Toyota should put an option for a spare tire. I own a 2023 Prius and installed a spare tire using OEM parts and everything fits nicely which replace the foam under the cover.

The heat from the car and from the cables will risk weakening the tire materials if you store the spare in the space. Think carefully about what that means.

Just place the spare in the trunk and cover with a wheel bag for those long trips. The boot space is large enough as its not a sedan. I know its not ideal but hey it's better than having no option at all.

I got the Corolla cross hybrid SE for 29,490/- with no accessories without floormats (Sep 2024) and enjoy it every bit. Steering is easy at slow speeds but stiffens at higher speeds. At highway speeds, it is not easy but the right amount of stiffness. Averaging about 52 miles a gallon. Each fill up around 460 miles. Small tank is enough. I had 5 cars in the last 30 years and had a flat tire only once in a parking lot. So no spare tire is not a deal breaker. Glad that I got a motor pump which might be more useful than a spare tire.

Great review. I'm in the market for a Corolla Cross hybrid without a moonroof. The SE trim doesn't include it, but can be had as an option. The problem for me is that I can't find a CCH without a moonroof. I live near 5 large Toyota dealerships, and viewing their inventory shows every CCH includes a moonroof. I can't find one without it. I don't want to pay for a feature I won't use. Another problem is interior color. Toyota's site show two color options - black and grey. But the dealers only offer it in black. This makes car shopping frustrating.

Living in LA, I like the size of the corolla cross versus the rav4. Parking lots and compact spaces make smaller cars much more practical since we don’t have kids. I’m eyeing the UX too.

Yeah I’m just south of you in OC. Thought about the UX and could have afforded it if I wanted but I liked the way the Cross has more trunk space and is higher off the ground. The UX is almost in between the Cross and the Prius. Wish the Cross had more noise dampening and it would be perfect (though I don’t find it too too noisy).

I have a Corolla Cross Hybrid. Same trim and that color as that one. I've had it for 8 months just hit 5000 miles today and I like it. I came from a Corolla hatchback and I liked that I could haul stuff when needed but I didn't want to move up to the RAV 4. I don't disagree with anything you said. Certainly it's not perfect but it's comfortable. I can drive it for 2 weeks and fill it up for less the $30. I live in the snow belt and the AWD is surprisingly good when the road is slick. First time I was stopped at an intersection trying to turn a corner with snow on the ground and I hit the gas and the car just moved with no problem I was shocked how easy it that was. Yes it's pricey but I came into some money recently and paid cash for it and I'm gonna drive it for 10+ years and I'm not going to have to worry about it.

@@Grizzzly. I too have the same model and trim. I didn't want a black, white, or gray (any color gray) car, so I got the Acidic Blast (gold). It's a little high for people with really short legs, but it's really comfortable and love the heated seats that not only do your bum, but also your back. My current overall mpg is 42.2. Not as good as my old priest, but better than a lot of cars that are this size (or smaller). It's 2ft shorter than the Camery I was looking at, which is huge when you are trying to park in the City. Tons of space for hauling. Small enough to park in a compact spot. As for take off, it's decent. Not as fast as an all electric, but when I'm trying to try on the freeway front of another car (not electric), I can decently out peace them. I've had the car since February and love it. No second thoughts, and there is no issue finding it in a crowded parking lot--though sometimes it hides behinds other larger SUVs.

Am I the only one who thinks the black plastic around fender flares, sides, front and rear bumpers is a bad idea? The plastic will not look very good after a few years because the plastic will fade in the sun. Seems to be a trend with newer cars, but I am not into a plastic look of cars/SUVs.

Your opinion on which trim is wrong, though. If you get the lowest trim, there is no option to upgrade to the stereo with the subwoofer. Not that getting that option is all that great, but I need a good stereo, I like to boom my music in the car while I drive, and if I can't hear decent quality in the sounds, it pisses me off to no end, so I always make sure my stereo is GOOD. I've had the JBL in my old Prius, it sounds great, so I am used to that sound. But the drawback to adding that subwoofer the way the Cross have it in the back left of the cargo area, is that it cuts into the width of the area. Yes I could add a stereo myself somewhere else, but if I get the XSE the stereo is integrated as are the tweeters and I won't need to have some local stereo shop take it all apart after and risk having the door sills, panels and clips damaged. It's a hassle! I would install a stereo like that in an old car if I bought a used one, but if leasing is an option to get it all pre-built from the factory like it was in my Prius, why not? Either way, getting the XSE also comes with the AWD, and, in the end, with the stereo upgrade with a slightly better interior, it's worth getting the top trim level, because again, if you compare to the RAV4 in the lowest level, even if you think the RAV4 is a better car, the stereo option and interior trim levels are tied together, and you will end up paying almost $50K in the RAV4. And I will not buy the lowest trim on the RAV4, I keep hearing the ride is smoother in the Corolla Cross Hybrid, I don't need dirt road capability, I just want a cushy ride with a good stereo that I can boom, I won't even notice the engine noise at all anyway, as I can barely hear the Police or Ambulance siren when I'm in my Prius now when I am playing my music LMAO

@kirk kreifels I bought the redesigned 2023 Prius and love it. For someone who has only owned a 2005 Prius that is still running at almost 20 years and over 300k miles, I love the new generation. Our 2005 Prius had a battery replacement at year 15 and is definitely on its last legs now so we’re looking at a replacement Toyota and eyeing this Corolla Cross Hybrid as a means to gain back cargo space we lost when getting the 2023 Prius. We get so many compliments on the look and sporty feel of the new Prius from ppl who would never buy it and we think that’s great. Based on your review and the comments about the 2025 potential upgrades for the CC hybrid, we may wait to see if it’s worth buying or look into the Kia, although we love Toyota and don’t want to buy another brand. Road noise is unacceptable even compared to a 2023 Impreza which is what I am coming from. The steering is rock hard to hold, wonder why no reviewer mentioned about it. It clearly shows they brought it to market just to be a commodity car nothing else. On top of this, dealer markups is widely spread on all toyota models which is what Toyota shows their blind eye in addressing this issue. The only redeeming point for this is the drive train, just seems like a lost oppurtunity to make it a better quality product.

Bought a 2022 corolla cross. Wish we didn't. It's too small for 4 people. Back seat is very cramped. I hate all the driver controls. Everything seems backwards from other cars I've had.Runs and handles great. Excellent gas mileage. Just hate the controls. Need a magnifying glass to read controls. Can't get used to this small suv.If you scoot the front seat back, the rear passengers knees are squashed. If I the front seat forward knees are in the glove box. Ugh!

This guy doesn't tell you it will take 160,000 miles for this hybrid system to pay for itself it gas savings at 42 mpg vs 32 for the non-hybrid, then you can spend $5K replacing the hybrid batteries. The headlights are too weak too...
@keithbethon4839
@keithbethon4839 2 ай бұрын
That assumes gas prices stay near their current levels. But aside from that, the hybrid is the better vehicle to buy anyway. It has more power and is able to deliver instant torque where you need it (down low), plus it has an absolutely bulletproof eCVT shared with the Prius. It's not simply about mpg and cost savings.

Chevy Trax vs Toyota Corolla Cross. Which is better?
@fredEVOIX
@fredEVOIX 6 күн бұрын
why would you buy a "cross" without AWD ? that's the entire point of the car to be a more rugged version, if not I'd buy a Corolla or Corolla Touring the getting people sick is worrying :/ and the quality vs price point reminds me of Ford Kuga not bad cars but the interior quality is one or two classes under what it should, a Kuga is as much or more than my 2018 Focus but my interior looks like a 60k Audi compared to the Kuga, and yes the prices are too close to the rav4 to make sense especially when you think how better finished the rav4 is, the undertray covering for example

I wish Toyota would make an Outback style AWD Camry wagon, and take some of those nearly 200k annual Outback sales. IMO this vehicle is way over-priced, and even my base 06 Matrix 5sp manual has sound insulation under the hood. Toyota is getting a little cool by half with their pricing, relying far too much on their perceived superior reliability resting on their "we can have crappy low rent plastic interiors and hub caps, and they will still buy it" laurels. It feels as if the total value package is fading rapidly.
