It's really a step up from the normal trim of LE though. So it does make sense that it should be more equipped than more base trims we are used to. I'll be getting the XLE with AWD someday. I believe that less is more sometimes. Like the 18" wheels aren't as nice looking as bigger wheels. But you also get more sidewall which has more distance between the rim and that pothole. Also, smaller wheels have smaller tires that don't cost as much.

Most long term owners I’ve noticed buy the model that’s well equipped but not the top trims . I think the xle is well equipped but won’t have the extra problems a sunroof can give you long term or those extra sensors and tech that in 5 + years will give you problems .

I have 2019 awd highlander, i notice when i have 5+ passengers and stuffs, the vehicle feel heavy, and slow… so i always wonder how the grand highlander would handle heavy payload… i consider just going for a real fullsize suv like the Tahoe… but being a loyal Toyota, i really worry going with other brand :)
