Great fun Ryan! in the ‘70s living in Southern California, I would do the same thing in my used FJ-40 Land Cruiser. Ran all over the desert and the Sierras. No SatNav of course. The trick was to take the most well traveled trail at each fork and see where you ended up. Sometimes an old mine, ghost town, lake, or even just a view. Plus, I didn’t have to worry about the paint. 😊. Thanks for bringing me along and for the memories.

if you look at the figures the tacoma outsells the new ranger over 3x. the 4runner sells about half the tacoma. so you could predict the everest would sell about half the ranger which is a pretty low figure (max 50k a year pre covid). maybe the dealerships just can't keep rangers in stock? but i doubt it. the everest is a very cool ride but it's probably not worth the risk for the ford bean counters. especially with the release of the new bronco which is selling 90% of what the 4runner is doing.

Go find Wynoochee Falls! Been where you drove many times over the decades. Grew up in that area. Three Peaks was in better shape many years ago, but mostly motorcycles go there now. I say, “mostly,” as I ran into a guy coming down from it this last July 2024 who said he crossed over it. Wynoochee Lake has campgrounds and massive day use area too. And, if you can find Wynoochee Falls, well, …amazing.

So grateful we live so close to these amazing trail adventures. Always something to discover. Most fun I've had off roading was with a 1981 Subaru GL wagon with Lo range, its light weight allowed me to float over terrain that heavier vehicles would bog down in. Only paid $1800 for it, but eventually I wanted more comfort and "upgraded" to a 1991 Legacy wagon.

OK. One of the best things about Ryan's videos is he take us on adventures, whether it's across states or in his own backyard of the Northwest. And in those adventures we are with him in the passenger seat. Of course, minus a few cameras and accessories. But we are there! We can feel the bumps. We can see the spray from a deep rut. We can also enjoy the views that his adventures enables us to experience. We aren't made to feel that this video is a sales pitch. We are enabled to feel we are there. For that, I give this video my muchly-coveted 10!

27:35 You should be questioning your decision to spend over 70 grand on a top trim Land Cruiser (and install severely overspecced tires) if it means you’re going to shy away from slightly overgrown trails… And for what it’s worth, I’ve run SL rated ATs for several years and have routinely run 20-24psi over rocks and roots all over mild to moderate Colorado trails without a single sidewall issue.

bro it's a 6000 pound subaru. this is a luxury car, anyone pretending it'll come even close to an 89 hilux with a locker is delusional. It's gorgeous and comfortable and FAT. It's a fake offroader for fake offroaders like this guy. My only question is how they managed to get such bad fuel economy with a hybrid 2.4liter. A subaru outback weighs half as much as this thing, they probably don't put a front locker on this because they know it would snap the CVs in 4low.

@@krebgurfson5732I think you’re very wrong about this vehicle being a fake off roader. Ask anyone from Africa to Australia to Iceland how it is. Not every off road vehicle is designed to be rock crawler. And yes there isn’t a vehicle that is perfect. Last year I bought a brand new wrangler 3.6 tried and true power train. And what happened it blew up at around 6600 miles.

I wanted to do an XPel wrap on my new 2500 RAM Tradesman with Power Wagon package. Not the whole thing but the fenders, 4doors up to door handles, and side of the bed. No hood, no tailgate, no roof and not the upper portion of the doors or pillars. I stopped her quoting when she got to about $5k. No way I am going to pay $5k for film protection when I paid $53k for the truck. It’s very expensive.
