Living in Canada, AWD aside, believe me front wheel drive in snow is fine. It's rear wheel drive that's not ideal in snow.

I wish that was the case for us, we own a civic and a dodge minivan and atleast once every winter, 1 of them gets stuck and now im having to use my model Y performance to get them unstuck because this happens mainly at home where neighborhoods aren't snow plowed, awd is a necessity now cause this shit is annoying

I recommend that you do a review comparing the Prius Prime to the new Tesla Model 3 RWD Long Range. These two vehicles are fairly close in price (Prius $33k M3 $35 after incentives) and curb weight (the M3 is about 250 lbs heavier). The range of the M3 is 363 miles and it has an excellent efficiency rating of 4.8 miles per kWh. It also has a lot of standard features and is fast and comfortable. As to operating costs, I think the M3 can be incredible cheap to operate if you can use solar. I use my old Chevy Volt 3.2 KW EVSE which gives me 16 miles per hour of range, without drawing off the grid, or 88 miles per day (5.5 hours of sunlight per day). If you can’t use solar utilities offer EV rates that are pretty good, for instance my local utility SDGE has an EV rate of $.50/day plus $.123/kwh during the super off peak period between midnight and 6 AM. This is so good I rarely Supercharged, but if you Supercharged during off peak times I think the rate is only around $.27/kwh.

Another great review! I agree, why go full EV when the Prime exists? At the moment I'm not interested in anything remotely 'electrified' (or turbo'ed for that matter), but when it's time, Toyota/Lexus is where I'll shop. Thanks for posting!

I think the RWD-biased Model 3 with double wishbone suspension will corner better but other than that and acceleration, everything is probably worse -- depreciation, maintenance if we include battery pack replacement, reliability. My friend who bought new a 16 Model S noticed parts start falling apart aftef the four year factory warranty.
@Fumbiii16Ай бұрын
any car fucks up any car needs to be maintained. especially ice cars a lot of parts can go bad either mechanical or electronic. both can last 300k, engine prob needs to be machined or add new rings or head gaskets labor oil brakes suspension work. nobody mentions suspension and the seals, mounts and transmission which is cvt. etc. tesla just needs a new battery pack and its not even a lot considering u saved throughout the years. 10k thatll last you 20 years or so or 300k miles. thatll be your biggest maintenance is just 10k which isnt alot for 20+years if ur saving. i can make that in a few months. if you cant spend that then prob shouldn't drive. electricity is cheap and over the years u save up money, cost about 10-15 every 2 weeks for me to run. i drive both hybrids and full ev. prefer my ev for cheap to run and its faster on track and straight line.

@@Fumbiii16 I prefer my Prius Prime because it has the best of both worlds. I don't have to worry about terrible charging infrastructure in Canada, but yet I also dont use any gas for my daily commute. You fail to mention that most moving components like Suspension, CV Axels, Wheel bearings, really a tonne of similar regular maintenance items, all exist on an EV as well. The only downside for me is that I have engine maintenance, but its done half as often as a regular ICE vehicle as it isn't operating while I am in EV mode.

I was caught between these two cars and bought the Prius. No range anxiety, no massive depreciation, can do EV for 38-40 miles for local trips and over 450 on hybrid. The biggest plus is not supporting Elmo and his deceptive stock pumping and his toxic right wing idiocy. Tesla EV tech is superior to everyone else's but they don't know how to build the rest of the vehicle. Toyota quality is superior and reliability has the track record. Prius has more storage in the back as the seats can lay flat, Model 3 doesn't. Tesla is crashing and burning inspite of Elmo's army of KZbin pumpers and liars.

@DrRussPhd the rebate exist for the prime too, but technology matters to a lot of people especially the Chinese market, and toyota is far from that which is why the are getting eaten in China compared to tesla, I don't want a car that can only do car things, it needs to be able to do more then that, and tesla can give that to people which is why it's growing and beating out toyota, I have no hope for toyota to ever be able to catch up to tesla in EV technology cause they are frankly shit at making EV, if they are so damn good in your mind then they should make a good EV but they know their shit at it and no one will pick them over a tesla

Prius is a great car, can’t wrong w it, but it’s in a different category than the newer M3s. The 40mi battery range wouldn’t be enough for me to stay w anything related to the ICE. I don’t pull 500mi in one sitting either. Charging a Tesla is a breeze, it doesn’t take longer than filling up my RAV4. Even easier at home, cheaper too. Both cars are great, the M3 would be my choice.

I'm going Tesla EV hands down. While I do love the Toyota and Honda hybrids, especially the plug in Primes. So why will I no longer spend money on these?? Maintenance. Day and Night. EVs require very little maintenance if any at all. Just replace tires at reasonable cadence. The rest almost require no maintenance. While ICE vehicles have a TON of work to keep it running right. Too many moving objects. I'm tired of it. What a racket.

My wife had a perfectly fine 2010 Prius. Great car. I did the oil changes. Paint was trash. Car was slow as hell. Bought a ‘21 Model 3. Even if we bought a new ‘24 Prius, guess which one she’d rather drive? I don’t have to do oil changes or go to the gas station. The tech is way better and we don’t use it for road trips.
