The Prius Prime model SE is my choice. Not only is the MSRP lower than the other higher grade models the SE has 17 inch tires and get better electric range and MPG when operating directly on gas. Tire replacement is less than the 19 inch models and the increase in range and mpg's is a real plus when gas goes over $5.00 a gallon.

Bought one of these on the 12th of October. This is such a fun, beautiful, efficient car. Gosh I'm so happy 😎

My favorite trim of the Prime! I like the cloth seats, simple interior, and the best electric-only range of all the trims.

Camry LE or Prius Prime SE?

The regular Prius fuel economy is so good that the Prime doesn't make a lot of economic sense. But the styling is so clean that it gets me excited for a Toyota designed and built hybrid GR86.

It makes sense for those who want to drive on EV only most primarily, but have the gas functionality for the occasional longer trip

I'm already generating a surplus of energy via solar panels at home, so it certainly makes sense for someone like me.

We got our Prime last week after a 21 month wait. With the price of gas here, we opted for the extra battery range. Currently, regular unleaded fuel is $ 1.86 CAD per liter. That's just a tick under $ 7.00 a gallon. A fill-up would cost $72.80 CAD. And, the oil annalists are predicting a rise in gas cost by another .14 c a liter later this month, bringing the price to $2.00 a liter. Or, $ 7.50 per gallon. Hard to believe as we are and oil producing province. Most of the cost is in taxes. Our first full charge gave us 80 k in EV. Most days we will not go that far so the Prime makes a lot of sense. But, it has to be noted; using the heater or AC will shorten that range to around 55~60 k. Still worth it. Love the car so far.

The differential between gas and electricity where I live isn't big enough. If the EV mode was compared to gas, I'd be saving about $1.50-2.00 per gallon. Or about $400-$500 a year. And that's best case, if every mile was replaced by EV driving. In reality, I'd probably only save $300/year in gas. The Prime is simply too expensive for only $300/year savings.

@@Brian-or2jy Right now, a litre of gas here costs $ 1.86+. That's just a tick less than $7.00 a (US), gallon. Worse, in Labrador at the moment , regular fuel is $ 2.41 per l ! Read the news on CBC this morning and oil gurus are saying by mid April of 2024 it will rise by another 14 cents. That would put gas at $2.00 a litre here in our city. That would mean an $ 80.00 cost to fill-up with a range (EV/gas combined) of about 800km. Granted, we're paying among the highest kwh rates in Canada, 14.3 kwh (even though we're probably the largest generator anywhere in the country. Don't ask, it's complicated). I had the impression when we ordered the car that it could be charged at 115 or 220. And it can. However, to use 220 at home some hoops have to be jumped through and they cost more money. 220 would be cheaper and faster so we must investigate all the same. When we get our next power bill we'll be able to compare. There are still several public charging stations around here that are free. As long as the station is Level 2 or lower you can use it to power your car. However, DC to DC chargers are not compatible. That's too bad as they can make for very fast charging. Ownership location with this model is everything when it comes to operational costs vs purchase price. For instance, in The UK a Prime XSE with most options costs 40,000 British Pounds. Well, in Canadian funds that's very near $ 70,000. I know that for years their gas has been much higher then in NA but, my math tells me it's a less sensible option to pick the Prime over there. I've seen here on KZbin that many NA dealers have jacked the prices to new heights. Strangely, after waiting 21 months after ordering, two Prime's landed the same day, ours and another ordered at the same time. The other customer cancelled the order when it arrived and we were offered first refusal on it. Tempting offer. It was the Mustard colour (a real unicorn in NA where it isn't supposed to exist), XLE m model. We could have had it for $42,000 CAD. That model in many US states runs the same price, but, in US dollars.

Thanks for reviewing the SE! Seems like they made some weird choices losing the automatic headlights and heated seats which were both standard on the last gen Prime. Otherwise it seems great.

I hate these “coupés.” If I’m going to have a sedan, I’d want a bubble roof. They increased every exterior dimension and then decided to shrink the roof line. Same thing with the new BMW 2 Series 2 door sedan.

I would like to see a review of the 2024 Prius Prime XSE Premium with the solar roof. Why do you wear watches on both arms? The other person being in the car was distracting. Maybe leave her at home to do car reviews? She seemed bored anyway.

Hybrids are usually more reliable and have longer range. For long trips, much easier to find and faster to go to a regular gas station. Instead of a plug in station and waiting much longer.
