To assist viewers, With filter change, 4-1/4 litres will bring your oil level to 2-3mm (about 1/8”) below full mark after running engine then checking 10 min later or when cold

some ppl shared that you should put a little oil into the new oil filter before pluging it into the car. What’s your thought on this?
@4am4life-cc3oh5 ай бұрын
@ethannguyen7562 l do agree...but this rav4 has a side mounted oil filter and access space is very limited
@alanf53513 ай бұрын
I fill filter halfway as it is side mounted on our 3 current gen Rav4s. Other upside down filters I fill fully

In some Toyota engines the oil filter is placed vertically on top and what do you advise about topping up the oil in the filter before installing it in that case? Not only that, on the Discovery Channel I don't remember exactly in what year (I think it was in 2005-2007) they conducted a survival test: there were 3 cars, 2 of them European brands and Toyota. the task of the test was to check how long the engines of these three cars can work without oil at all. The test was successful for all 3 cars, with the only difference that Toyota was the champion in this test. Any engine, no matter how long it has been standing, will have a thin oil film on the friction pairs a few microns thick, so topping up the oil in the filter does not play any significant role and many people do it because their grandfather did it 100 years ago.

I do recommend putting oil in the filter, if you can

@@333dmg when filter is on top with opening at bottom, any oil you pre-fill in filter will just pour out when you go to install it so I would not pre-fill those myself.

It's been said to first remove oil filter as it releases the vacuum . Then oil will come out more completely . When I change my oil every 5000 miles it looks the same . I believe it's because I always use an engine flush , liqui-Moly or Amsoil . Compared with countless oil changes I have seen where the oil comes out BLACK .
@alanf535118 күн бұрын
I just open the filler cap to allow old oil to drain faster. I leave the open cap sitting on opening to prevent anything from flying in though.

I'd prefer if Toyota kept the orientation of the oil filter like the majority of most cars that have them on the bottom of the engine. 🤔

Yes that would make it easier, as well as being on top, but all manufacturers are looking at space efficiency and packaging which is unfortunate for us!

@@4am4life-cc3oh I have no issue getting to 5th gen oil filter that is at bottom and side mounted. I find there is sufficient room using the regular steel low profile (normal filter cap wrench not the ones that can also be used for cartridge style filters). I just can only pre-fill new filter about 1/3rd as any more will spill out as I line up the threads. My old Corolla with it low and upside down, I could pre-fill fully
