Was seriously contemplating purchasing a 2024 Sequoia TRD Pro. Had a deposit on one. Then I made the decision to cancel it. The hybrid system with the rear seat/cargo design ultimately caused me to pass on it. Instead I purchased a 2021 Land Cruiser Heritage Edition with only 2 miles on it. I pick it up tomorrow.

Nice choice...loved the Land Cruisers, could never afford one but loved the styling and capabilities. I think that was the last year of the Land Cruiser if I'm not mistaken? They supposedly are coming out with another one, but its smaller, and looks way too much like the FJ Cruiser.

@@wildbill23cthank you brother. You are correct, final year of the LC200. I agree, the new Land Cruiser coming to North America does resemble an FJ Cruiser. I think they will be a great option for people who want a good off road capable Toyota. The V8 and old school proven reliability in the LC200s and down just is so much more appealing to me. It's ridiculous hybrid has become synonymous with good gas mileage. McLaren P1 is a plugin hybrid that gets roughly 18 mpg. I'd trade power over mileage any day.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 6 ай бұрын
LOL, exactly my thoughts as well. My 08 Toyota Tundra with the 5.7L V8 got better fuel economy than that...17mpg is pathetic for a hybrid of any sort. $80k...maybe $40k would be much more realistic, but people are stupid enough to pay these ridiculous prices so automakers just keep jacking them up. Their $2k a month car loan for 6 years must be really cool to brag about I guess...oh wait people lease now, they'd rather have a never ending car payment instead.

@@wildbill23c If memory serves somebody involved with the design of this said something about the hybrid system being primary their for extra power without sacrificing to much mpg for that power. I can't remember the power numbers,but if memory serves they were pretty high. My guess is they figured that folks buying this type of vehicle didn't have good fuel economy as their primary goal.Personally I'm guessing not many people are getting this size suv for a daily driver,but I might be wrong on that.

Thawing ground can be the most slippery condition you will ever encounter. I remember once while hunting I came to a fairly short piece of thawed dirt that was straight and level with a crown in it. First time through I was going faster at about 10 mph and almost lost it! It was scary because on each side of the road were boulders up to 2 feet high. When I had to come back through that section I went down to low first gear and was barely going 2mph. You guessed it. It would start drifting to one side requiring a short stab of the throttle to steer back to center only to keep going almost sideways trying to balance the weight on each side of the crown. I ended up snaking through it that way and could not believe the almost total lack of grip. If the road had been all like that I never would have made it up any hill and would have had to wait for the next freeze to get out.

Price aside, the real killer here is the lack of a usable and configurable cargo area, especially for something based on a truck chassis. Who wants to buy a shelf that *raises* the load floor on an already tall truck just to get a flat surface? And the inability to remove the 3rd row seats? It's a terrible use of space. I like Toyota but this vehicle seems unclear of what it wants to be. The new Land Cruiser/GX looks much better designed for this role and the Grand Highlander seems much more comfortable and utilitarian around town for a family, etc. Do people actually offroad their 3-row vehicles with 6+ people in them? Seems like such a chore.
@wildbill23c
@wildbill23c 6 ай бұрын
My 2008 Ford Explorer's 2nd and 3rd row seats fold flat, you'd think 16 years later Toyota could figure out how to do a flat for in a 3 row SUV....they can't even get a locker to engage immediately like every other automaker out there...they've quickly become the bottom of the list for vehicles to look at and recently are totally off the list since they took the V8 out of the Tundra and Sequoia. Should have kept it as an option or as the base engine, and people that wanted a truck with a garbage engine could pick that underpowered turbo V6 or gas hog hybrid crap. 17mpg from a so called "Hybrid" is pathetic...the 5.7L V8 got better than that on the highway, and not much worse running around town.

You'd think they could figure out how to do fold flat seating by now...hell my 2008 Ford Explorer's 2nd and 3rd row seats fold completely flat.... Their excuse of course is they needed room for the nonsense hybrid battery crap, which didn't help the fuel economy at all, just made the vehicle heavier instead.

I wouldn't want either. My 08 Tundra got better fuel economy than that Sequoia with a turbo V6....over working a smaller engine to do a larger engine's job don't give you very good fuel economy at all. 17mpg average in the Sequoia is what Ryan mentioned on his trip back home with that Sequoia, pretty pathetic for what is supposed to be a hybrid engine setup. I'd get around 14-15mpg in town with my 08 Tundra and most commonly I'd see 19mpg highway, occasionally I'd get 20-21mpg but the heavy 8 ply AT tires I put on it did a slight number on the fuel economy LOL. $80k + additional dealer markup + tax + registration + higher insurance due to all the electronics. Basically $100k vehicle. Smarter money would be to buy a fairly well maintained high mile used Sequoia for $10-15k. Put a new engine in it. Lift it. All new suspension and tires. Aftermarket infotainment with full exterior camera system and light bars. All-in you'd be maybe $25-30k tops. And you'd have a more reliable, more capable vehicle that will still be on the road another 100,000 miles beyond the landfill this luxury barge is sitting in in a decade.

Yes 80 grand is ridiculous. Despite the claims the frame and engine are shared by lx and lc300, quality is definitely not the same as the lc and lx made in japan. Big fat avoid!

Climb in the rear to see if you can sleep in it. Don't throw your back out.😂😂 Why can't Toyota make a 4x4 cargo area that is flat (4runner, Sequoia)? The Highlander is pretty flat, but it isn't a 4x4 or body on frame.😢

LOL, yeah, even my 2008 Ford Explorer's floor is completely flat when the 2nd and 3rd row seats are folded down....in 16 years Toyota can't figure out how to do that, and for $80k+ I'd expect a much better vehicle.

This vehicle is very nice. But inside quality is very very cheap. Specially front seat sides. Crack's after 5k mile. Other sides also cracks will little tension. I am regrading buying this vehicle.

He's open to All Brands but he does mostly toyotas. He might live close to a Toyota dealership. It's not like these reviewers have a choice. They take what's given to them for review. If they're not very nice about it, then those car manufacturers will not loan them cars anymore. Which is why it's very difficult to find honest reviews. And since this guy seems pretty honest that's probably why Jeep is not giving him any vehicles. Fear.

What is annoying is that the back row seating is not fold flat and they are cannot be removed so you are stuck with them. That is simply poor design by Toyota.

Its going to be fun watching the GX550 kill off the Sequoia after 2 years... Toyota really f=ed this one up. GX550 Overtrail+ at $77500 or Sequoia TRD Pro for $82000. You'd have to be a nitwit to go with the Toyota.

You actually can get a flat floor. There’s a shelf system that the truck has where you can place the shelf even with the folded 3rd row seats. The cutouts in the rear walls shows the 3 levels. (Research 😐)
