@TFLoffroad Andre, Please stop mentioning that a Toyota has to be level to shift into 4Lo. You say it fairly often and many of us fans have shared that is untrue; level has no effect on transfer case shifting or 4x4 actuators. You are using a slightly incorrect shift method and that is the sole reason you often encounter slow or finicky shifting into 4lo. Correct procedure is to already be in 4hi when you come to a stop to shift to 4lo. The issues you have are because you are coming to a stop and then shifting from 2hi to 4lo. The correct procedure is to be in 4hi before making the shift to 4lo and that can easily be done as you roll to a stop (shifts from 2hi to 4hi occur better when moving). I submit that a drive should already be in 4hi before they get to a situation where 4lo is needed anyway, but if not, shift to 4hi as you come to a stop, shift the transmission to neutral and then shift transfer case to 4lo. If you use the recommended method to already be in 4hi before shifting to 4lo, you will have no issues and the shift will happen quickly and reliably. And again, it is incorrect that the levelness of the vehicle has any effect on this process. Thanks. Edit: As pasted later in this thread, the 2023 Sequoia manual states the procedure to shift from 2hi to 4hi is while moving. And the procedure to shift from 4hi to 4lo starts by coming to a stop while already being in 4hi.

@@BYLRPhil I do like a manual transfer case shifter, like some current model gen 5 4runners still have, but when I follow the recommended 4lo shift procedure on my 2013 Tundra, it shifts as fast as moving a manual transfer case shift lever. Electric shift is no slower if the proper shift procedure is used.

I'll tell you what if my tacoma is not level, I can't get from 2 to 4hi if I bribe it. Rolling or neutral. And then if it fails... It blinks the light until I can turn the vehicle off and on again. So... There's an issue in their electronic transfer case, and I'm not the only one to hit this issue.

Hey guys, just want to make a quick point - the 3.5-liter V6 in the new Sequoia is not a *mild* hybrid, but a full parallel hybrid system that's standard across the new model's entire lineup (and most of the Tundra lineup, as well). Thanks for watching!

@@MrChadx1 Hello, thank you for the comment. I did it correctly in this video. I asked the system to shift in 4Hi first. That took a while. Once in 4Hi - then I went to 4Lo which was relatively easy after that.
@MrChadx1
@MrChadx1 Жыл бұрын
@@andresmirnov3940 Hi Andre. Thanks for the interaction. My primary point was that the transfer case should already be in 4hi when one comes to a stop to shift to 4lo.; not shifted to 4hi when already stopped and then shifted to 4lo without moving the vehicle. You'll have much better shifting experience. The 4hi shift is designed as shift-on-the-fly and so works best when moving. Another point you mention often, like you did in this video, is that the vehicle must be level. It does not. Level of vehicle has no bearing on the actuators moving through their process. The Toyota manuals used to make this sequence more clear, but even in the 2023 Sequoia manual has the below, which indicates you should first have shifted into 4hi before stopping to shift into 4lo. Yes it will work the way you did it, but it often hangs up, which is then mentioned/criticized. It would not do that if the proper procedure was followed (shift to 4hi while moving and already be in 4hi when you come to a stop to shift to 4lo). Shifting occurs quickly and without issue when one is already in 4h when coming to a stop to shift into 4lo. Give is a whirl is all I'm suggesting (shifting to 4hi while moving and before you come to a stop to shift into 4lo). You'll have a much better experience. From the 2023 Sequoia manual: Shifting from “2H” to “4H” 1 Reduce vehicle speed to less than 62 mph (100 km/h). 2 Push and shift the frontwheel drive control switch to “4H” Shifting from “4H” to “4L” 1 Stop the vehicle completely and continue to depress the brake pedal. 2 Shift the shift lever to N. 3 Push and shift the frontwheel drive control switch to “4L”. The “4L” indicator will come on. Per the above, one should shift to 4hi while moving. Also, one should already be in 4hi when you come to a stop to shift to 4lo. Thanks again for the interaction. I'm just trying to help out and ensure your shifts are smooth, quick and less finicky. The above tips will clear up the shifting issues that you and Roman commented on in this video and have also mentioned in other videos. Thanks.

Just make sure the wheels aren't slipping when you shift. Then after your in 4hi, stop the truck, put it in neutral and go to 4lo. It works almost seamlessly on the older trucks, I have not tried on any new ones. I hope this helps.

The sequoia looks absolutely insane with 35’s on it with a few inch lift. Westcott designs and Expedition Overland and CBI all built up different ones for SEMA and these look incredible. Just like the tundra, the stock tires just makes it look awkward and just look way too small in the wheel well and compared to the rest of the vehicle design. It just looks off and makes it look so low but with bigger tires and a little lift man does it look absolutely amazing. Same thing goes for the tundra. Obviously any 4x4 will look better with bigger tires and a lift but the 4Runner and tacoma still look great and proportionate when it’s stock. The sequoia and tundra just look off without upgraded bigger tires and a lift.

The off road numbers on paper like approach and departure and ground clearance definitly isn’t too impressive but let’s me real, that’s not the main focus for the sequoia. It is gonna be competing with the Yukon and expedition for 3 row family suvs and all the other trims you can tell. They made a trd pro for it and threw some fox shocks and the normal pro stuff to make some more money and if people wanna overland with it but it def wasn’t designed with off road in mind but can be modded into a beast off roader tho. I think the more off road focused trucks will def be the two of the most popular Toyota trucks in off roading and overlanding being the 4Runner and tundra and possibly a new Land Cruiser coming depending on if they bring the luxurious 300 series over or release a stripped down off road focused more affordable Land Cruiser but I hope and think toyota will make the 6th fen 4runner and 4th gen tacoma much more impressive off road with better approach departure clearance and with actual tow hooks haha. Not even adding tow hooks just shows Toyota wasn’t really focused too much on the off roading aspect of either the tundra or sequoia since most people don’t use full size 3 row suvs for off roading or modding too crazy. The 4Runner has a 3rd row for the sr5 trim but it’s still a midsize suv and the perfect sweet spot in size for a lot of people who want to off road and overland yet have enough room for everything else life throws at you but imo still better and more capable and modifiable than all the other full size suvs and bring the only one with the solid rear axle is a great thing for off roaders.

Toyota really phoned it in for the new Sequoia. All they did was put an enclosed cab and a third row on the Tundra. GM, Ford, and Jeep all learned at least a generation ago that SUV customers demand more than that. This thing should have a unique interior, an automatic AWD system, an independent rear suspension, and an uncompromised third row and cargo area. Thankfully, the powertrain is good. Otherwise, this thing would be really disappointing. Overall 6.8/10.

I like that has a solid rear, I prefer that to IRS but otherwise I completely agree. The fact that a vehicle like this does not have auto 4WD is inexcusable. My bit of advice to TFL. When you are shifting to 4wd please do not stop. I see this mistake often. While you are driving on 2H shift to 4H while you drive under 50mph without stopping. If you stop keep driving till it engage the front actuator. Then 4H will engage. Drive in 4H until you need 4L. When you need 4L stop the vehicle, shift to N, shift to 4L then go to D or R as needed. Do not try to go from 2H all the way to 4L. * In simple terms - Drive on 2H on dry pavement, shift to 4H when you hit the dirt while you are driving. When you need slower speeds then stop and shift to 4L. *

Needs auto-4wd, recovery hooks, 33s, and another inch of lift if they want to sell this as a Pro. Its a no-go for me personally because of that and I wonder if Toyota really understands the market for this "Pro" model. Seems they don't-and Ive lost faith in the upcoming 4Runner and Tacoma because of shit like this. Oh, and make that 3rd row removable. My wife and want something like this for roadtripping, camping, and exploring. We want space for gear. Not kids. But if you are using that 3rd row, then there's not enough space for the amount of camping or roadtripping gear you would need to carry to support 6 people.

I think the fact that this whole lineup doesn't have auto 4WD, including the Tundra, is a huge oversight. All the other competition offers it, and 20 years ago you could get something similar on Toyota's. The fact that you have to fiddle between 4Hi and 2WD in a $80k 2023 vehicle is ludicrous. I can kind of understand it in the 4Runner, could definitely understand it in something like a Jeep Wrangler (but even that offers an auto 4WD!) but on something like this that is more of a soccer mom type vehicle, it's inexcusable. Toyota has really been half-assing things since the 3rd gen Taco.
