I disagree with your comments on the B58 having no character. You compare it to a V8, and are basically saying they sound different. Of course they do. If you prefer the sound of a V8, you'll need to get a V8 and cam it. That doesn't give it the sound of "character" though...it gives it the sound of a V8. It's just different. I, personally, *LOVE* the sound of a smooth screaming B58. I'm not a huge fan of choppy V8's. It just comes down to personal preference, not "character".

I had one for a year- it was consuming 1 quart of oil every 700-1,000 miles. That aside, the ride quality was understandably stiff as a shortwheelbase car but it got annoying after the initial ownership novelty wore off. I'm 6'2 and fit in it fine, but long trips would get tiresome. The blindspots at the quarterpanels are exceptionally bad- it's like driving with a hoodie on. Fortunately the rear end is fairly short so you're not pulling a lot of ass behind you in that blindspot. I picked up a '22 LC500 dynamic 6 months ago and am very happy with that instead.
@MeynMotorGroup7 ай бұрын
Exactly the novelty wears off quick with stuff like this. So hard to convey this to people they think if they buy a car like this they will never get tired of it. Cars with a soul like your new LC you can hang onto a lot longer and not get bored of it as easily. Because it doesn’t make sense on paper, people think we’re just making this up since most have no seat time in this stuff
@kenchen7047 ай бұрын
Seems like you got unlucky and got one of the new engines with oil consumption issues. It is quite rare, but it is a problem that the 2021+ engines have, and normally the dealer should deal with it.

Welcome to the retirement club.😏 Really, though, the LC500 is similar to the Jag F-Type in that both are quiet and comfortable cruisers. If I had one to compliment Mt Supra and MX5, I'd get the LC500h, which gets superior mileage compared to the LC500. Here in CA, premium fuel is near $5.50/gallon.

How is it any fair to compare the sound of an I6 turbo to NA V8’s? That’s like comparing apples to oranges. You should’ve compared it to other 6 cylinder engines. But I do agree that most performance V8’s do have more character than the B58; however, this motor still sounds pretty good (especially when paired with a full Akrapovic exhaust). Btw, I don’t think BMW honors warranty thru aftermarket Dinan parts anymore (although I’m not 100% sure).
@MeynMotorGroup7 ай бұрын
I think the more important question is, why are these billion dollar companies charging us $60k for something that sounds like a dyson when those apples and oranges you mentioned can be had for $20k less...
@CarsOverPeople7 ай бұрын
@@MeynMotorGroup Umm what?… All those cars you compared it to (LC500, CT5BW, Mustang GT) are all AT LEAST $20k more, NOT $20k less. Also, I think you would’ve liked this car much more if you had driven the 6spd manual version instead of the auto 8spd…
@MeynMotorGroup7 ай бұрын
@@CarsOverPeople LC aside how is it fair that you’re just going to completely disregard the $40k LT1 Camaro and the 5.0l Mustang… And how can I forget the remaining challengers that can be had for dirt cheap which you conveniently left out. It’s always fair for people to make things up and slander me but nothing is fair when I bring up a perfectly good point 😅😂 My original point remains, this B58 lacks soul, a freaking Genesis G70 twin turbo V6 sounds better than this if you want to compare your apples. AMG does a good job with their turbos as well, but a good sounding factory turbo is far and few between. We’re car enthusiasts this shouldn’t be difficult to get… so many people are in love with classic cars, why? For their character which MOST new cars lack. Auto versions of most cars allow you to get the pops and bangs out of the exhaust a little bit easier, most manuals suck nowadays just rubbery and ambiguous hopefully the one in the Supra is good but most are not sadly.
@CarsOverPeople7 ай бұрын
@@MeynMotorGroup Bruh, I agreed with you that the B58 engine is a bit soulless (although I haven’t driven or been in one yet so I could be wrong about my own opinion). But even price differences apart, you should not be comparing a 6 cylinder to an 8 cylinder… As far as 6 cylinder engines go, the only one I can think of that is better than the B58 is Porsche’s flat 6 engines. Modern AMG engines are too complicated (aka unreliable) & expensive to maintain/fix, but BMW’s B58 has been proven to be pretty dang reliable & relatively cheap to own. Every other reviewerer has been praising the Supra’s manual so I’m sure it’s good. Toyota didn’t just take it from bmw & slap it on, they actually changed a lot of things on the manual tranny to make it solid.
@MeynMotorGroup7 ай бұрын
@@CarsOverPeople my apologies I should have specified I’m not just directing this towards you but in general I get flooded with messages from people who absolutely don’t listen or read my content and are quick to slander and take away from the message (which is produced to solely help you the consumer, there is no profit in me making content like this. I’m better off just being dishonest and say every new car is great) I love the people too much to do that but typically my reward for it is just spit on my face from the very same people I try to help or they simply make up new arguments that have nothing to do with the original point. Which is fine, I’m used to it. Yea if the mainstream says the manual is good, I’m sure it is. Thanks again for stopping by my friend. God Bless.

Coming form a 2019 Scatpack charger and 2020 mustang GT I think the 2020 b58 in the Supra has way more character than the 2021 .5 trough 2024 in my opinion. My buddy has a 2022 Supra and it’s sound vastly different than my 2020 due to the two port manifold design compared to the six ported in newer models; results in more pops and bangs. In regular mode it just sound like a x5 but in sport mode it has crazy amounts of pop’s especially in 2nd and 4th gear.

Honestly my friend, probably not as it is a used car and can't get one as press cars anymore. Drove a C7 on 3 different occasions and it's a hyper capable car but not very exciting sadly. Sports cars are for those with disposable incomes. Those with money are not confused, they have their two go to products, Corvette and Porsche. Porsche sells 10k-11k 911s per years and like 4k 718 models. GM sells over 30k C8 Corvettes per year over the past 3 years. Even a cheap sports car like a Miata sells well under 10k units per year. In the 30k-60k sports car range, Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger dominate. Most just want power.
@chrisginoc7 ай бұрын
@@MeynMotorGroup That’s not the right take brother. Yes disposable incomes are important and I’m blessed to be in this category owning a 2023 MKV 6MT as my garage queen. My neighbor bought a 2023 Miata and when we drove mine he was blown away at the driving experience and engagement. Is it better than a Porsche even a used Porsche? I will say no, but it’s not meant to be better than a Porsche. It’s a sweet spot. The only thing confusing about this car is the BMW and Toyota collaboration. By saying what you mentioned, it’s like you’re saying MKIV owners didn’t know what they were doing buying them and even till this day because it wasn’t a pure sports car in the Porsche sense. If you want to look at sales figures, the MKV never had a chance following up the most iconic jdm car of the 90’s that was the MKIV and it was never meant to be better. It’s simply meant to bring plenty of smiles per gallon rowing through my gears and rev matching. No car could follow up the MKIV. It’s like going after Van Halen in their prime. Just can’t follow that up. Toyota knew this and didn’t want to lose their ass like they did on the LFA with poor sales and somehow now it’s an iconic car… go figure. Life is too short. Enjoy what you drive. In the famous words of Doug DeMuro, “Historically controversial cars or cars that are misunderstood long term end up being wanted”. It’s like we don’t like it when it’s here then want it when it’s gone. Human nature

Wish it was more Toyota than BMW. Mainly from a reliability standpoint. Completely agree with the your thoughts on the sound. So typical, sounds just like my neighbors BMW's. And yup, good luck getting this serviced at Toyota outside basic stuff like oil and filter. Carcarenut worked on this car and hated it.

You mention all the engines with character....this is what is so bizarre about the Supra: Toyota didn't design, build, and engineer it. They started with a preexisting platform and "turned" it. Kinda debatable for a car company as large and diverse as Toyota. I'd have some respect if it was a Toyota (tuning doesn't count in my book). A number of people have told me through the comments that the Supra wouldn't have been any good unless they took the approach they took. This is an incredible take in my opinion. Nissan has my respect: They didn't go to another manufacturer for the parts, they used their parts. Damn good looker the Z is.

@@MeynMotorGroup Seems like a helluva lot have it for an overpriced pickup..... Maybe it's a matter of marketing? Not much emphasis on cars...and extreme emphasis on "off road" for SUV/CUV/Pickups.
@MeynMotorGroup7 ай бұрын
@@ksorsomeplace it’s not even marketing sales speak for themselves. If people are going to put their financial future in jeopardy and finance $40k-$60k cars it’s going to be something they need and not want which is an SUV to haul stuff and people. Neither of those things are being achieved with a sports car.

I guess you never heard of Gazoo Racing. They are the main reason why the GR Corolla and Yaris are so sought after. The GR Supra is superior to the Nissan Z, not only because of the B58 engine, but also the better chassis tuning.
@ksorsomeplace7 ай бұрын
@@davepaturno4290 Yeah, I've heard of it. My point is Toyota isn't designing it....thus how much of a Toyota is it really? If the yardstick is "tuned by Toyota," then I guess it is a Toyota even though Toyota didn't design and engineer the parts. Comments apply to the Supra only. I've not read much about the Corolla/Yaris.

I don't understand how anyone can love driving this car. Maybe they fixed the suspension for 2024 but i felt the suspension tuning of this car completely fell apart when pushed hard. Something is absolutely off with the handling. The fake engine noise is also terrible. Same for the constant burbles in the sport mode on decel. This is basically a gateway drug for the m2.
@davepaturno42907 ай бұрын
The suspension had some significant upgrades since 2023 models. I've rented the C8 Corvette (very large and heavy), the McLaren 570S Spider (a rocket ship that is amazing), a Porsche 911 4S, Jag F-Type, BMW i8, etc and I am still very impressed whenever I drive my 2024 45th Anniv Supra. It is much more exotic-looking than a BMW M2, 3, or 4.

@hamsterbrigade yes, the 2023+ models received great improvements to steering feedback, suspension, ediff and traction control tuning. I had a 2020, moved on to something else and then came back to a 2023 supra and the changes were very noticeable. I spent a lot of time between those 2 model years.

That's part of the fun of having one. I'm in my 60s and love my 2024 GR Supra, even after driving a McLaren 570, Corvette C8, Jag F-sport, and Porsche 911 4S. Turo rentals are great for trying out many vehicles.

It's really not "boy racer". It doesn't have a silly spoiler or that kind of styling at all. Civic R is boy racer. Even the styling of the Vette is far more boy racer, with all those ridiculous angles and points sticking out all over the place. The Supra is one of the most beautiful cars there is.

It's a BMW. I'm a Toyota Lexus fanboy and I wouldn't touch this car. Sorry just my opinion. This is not going to have Toyota dependability and ease of working on. If it made sense for Toyota to engineer this whole car they would've but obviously they had to farm out a lot of it.

I drove this and I can tell this car is video game level fast. That said, the high speed steering feel is not properly calibrated, Cadillac and Alfa romeo give better steering feel in my opinion. Also very claustrophobic at least for me. I would get the CT4 V blackwing over this as the manual in that thing has lo lift shift and also the LF4 engine has forged internals and even the twinturbo's are from BORGWARNER EFR series with titanium aluminide wheels which are 50% lighter than regular turbo wheels so spools up much faster, and also there is no substitute for GM magnaride 4.0 as it reads road every 1ms and responds in 5 ms so you never have to compromise between comfort and epic handling. Let me know what you think @MeynMotorGroup.
