I’m in Maryland so obviously the rules are different here - I found this : You will need a fishing license to harvest blue crabs in the state of Florida. There is no size limit for blue crabs, but its best to let the smaller ones go. The only crabs that have to be returned to the water are egg bearing female crabs.

It doesn’t seem like you are worried about size at all ?? Where are you fishing out these crabs ??? I love some good crab for sure !!!

Nothing better tasting than the blue crab steamed in an old bay style spice. Just had a few jumbos two days ago. Glorious meal. I see a lot of females don’t you throw some of them back?
@TaylorMF410 ай бұрын
You got that right!!! Steamed blue crabs with a nice cold drink. I'm catching alot of females in my area right now. I scan the crabs visually and throw any pregnant or small females back. Trying to keep the breeders for the future generations.

It’s easier to count them after you take them out of the trap goog

Why did you break the claw off the stone crab?
@TaylorMF410 ай бұрын
That is how you harvest stone crab claws. You snapped the claws off if they are of legal size and then you return the crab back to the water to grow the claws back again and again.

Curious how long you let your traps set before you pull ‘em ?? Once a day maybe ?? I’ve only done crabbing off the dock with chicken necks or w/ a buddy on a trout line. Do you sell yours direct to customers or take ‘em to a store ???
@TaylorMF410 ай бұрын
I pull the traps 2 or 3 times a week. I sell all my product to @goldenruleseafood . It's a fish market and restaurant in miami. If you are ever in the area, be sure to check it out.

Very good video! Those little crabs are keepers?! Why do you break the claw off the stone crab before you throw it back?
@TaylorMF49 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. All the crabs I'm keeping are of legal size. The stone crab claws are taken from the crab and the crab is returned to the water to grown claws again and again. The keep the females because they are good eating crabs and are legal to keep as long as they are the correct size and are not egg bearing.
@ralphaverill20019 ай бұрын
@@TaylorMF4 I never doubted the crabs were legal, they just seem too small to be worth the trouble. I remind myself that I worked on a king crab processing ship years ago so I'm used to soething bigger.

Yes. You can keep female crabs if they are of legal size and are not loaded with eggs.
