Thanks for acknowledging that it is made in India. Most reviewers have a hard time accepting that the baby KTMs, Huskies and BMWs are built here. My dad works as a metallurgical consultant for one of the Bajaj's vendors. The quality levels on this Triumph is way more demanding to what KTMs have is what he said even though all come out from the same assembly line. He absolutely loved this video. Especially seeing this bike being ridden on the Autobahn.

Booked this bike and I'd be getting it soon. At first I was skeptical because it was made in India. But I realized that how big companies do business and extend their reach by having the cost lower as possible. Hence, some companies well known brands have their factories in India, Thailand etc. And as you've said as long as the triumph controls the quality there is nothing wrong with it. It's like my PC parts from a reliable brand that are made in China. They had factory in China because having a factory in there was cheap but they control the quality. The only time I wouldnt buy a Chinese product is if the brand is Chinese, we all know for a fact how their products works.

😊 I am all ok with India, Thailand and Phillipines. However China is something I don't really vouch for. Reason being the cost advantage has gradually diminished over years. The political environment is dicy. However for the other three countries democracy and constitutions actually create a more stable environment for manufacturing in the long term. I remember in the early 2000's Bajaj had just started exporting their 100 cc bikes to African countries and wanted to have a good cost advantage and were exploring Chinese vendors but the team came back home rejecting every option and ended up developing the parts here in and around Pune City (the Detroit and Oxford of India) on a near Just-in-time basis. If it hadn't been for this incident, I doubt Bajaj would have been in a position like they are today. Manufactured and exported more than a million KTMs. Triumph expects them to repeat the same feat.

@@ttrguy9952 Lol. You are so very wrong my friend. All 390s are made here in India. The assembly plant is just a stone's throw away from where I am typing this comment. BMW 310s are made in Hosur by a brand called TVS that also owns Norton now. And yeah if you still don't want to believe that Bajaj owns majority stakes in KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas through PTW Holding AG, the direct majority stakeholders in KTM, there is nothing much that can be said. You need to do your homework. The China story is long forgotten.

I took this thing for a 2h ride yesterday and the seat is surprisingly comfortable compared to all other bikes I rode. The on/off throttle can be significant in 1st and 2nd gear but not 3rd as tested here. Over all fit & finish is superb for the price and the handling is amazing. Considering that this bike costs similar or less than a mid tier e-bicycle, it’s well put together. You need to manage your power expectations though which is no fault of the bike.

I have one. (400 Speed) A FANTASTIC little bike. SUPER SMOOTH. Both motor AND gearbox. NO, thump thump thump. NOTHING. SUPER SMOOTH. SMOOTH. Sounds GREAT. A Great note from the exhaust. So LIGHT and NIMBLE. ONLY 170kg. ( WOW ) First gear is a nanny gear, I NEVER use it. It has a close ratio gearbox. Once you get out of 5th gear, she Flies, she Moves! GREAT QUALITY. DEFINITELY a WINNER. DEFINITELY. Ride one. I cannot fault it. (I don't like the 24hr clock, I don't like the 180klm speedo, Too optimistic, I am not a fan of the bar end mirrors.) I personally would give it 9.9/10 ( NOT joking) Triumph and Bajaj (?) did a STELLAR job. WELL done guys. Regards,. ( 'OZ'. - Australia )

Ordered mine last weekend, the test-drive convinced me right away that this is a wonderful machine. So light and smooth. I like the retro style, I was eyeballing the Royal Enfield (Interceptor 650) for over a year, but this is a way more smooth and fun ride and I pulled the trigger in one hour. It will accompany my F900R very wel for the laid back summer rides. Thanks for the review, I had the same giggle as you when I first rode this; like what? Is this just 40 ponies for real? Feels real punchy, comfortable, looks cool and it is affordable. Gonna have so much FUN on this. Cruising around town.

As an owner of a 2023 Interceptor and the brother of the owner of the Triumph Scram 400X I can vouch for the Interceptors smoothness. Interceptor is much much smoother and easy going as it should because its a twin. Braking is much better on the Interceptor. Looks wise too the Interceptor takes the cake. The Baby Triumphs ace the Interceptor in all other departments.

Scott Great review! The Speed 400 is the most beautiful of all the small bikes. Triumph nailed it with these 400's and is going to sell boatloads of them. I'm sure they are already working on a "Bobber" version. The things they can do with that platform are endless. It's the perfect entry level bike or a fun around town type bike. I was getting set to buy one of these motorcycles and I am so glad I came across. The only honest review that I have seen. One of my biggest concerns is vibration. And this is an entry-level motorcycle, but I still expect it to have counter balancing to offset the vibration. The others said there was no vibration or it was mild. I have owned a few single cylinder motorcycles back in the 70s and vibration was my main complaint. So he just talked me out of this motorcycle. Thanks I really DO appreciate it.

People not happy about the 1st gear and RPM's at the top end could install a back sprocket with 1 or 2 less teeth. Those speeds are indicated, likely there's at least a 4-5% error or an 8 kph too much indicated at 165 KPH. Although there has been some vibes reported at around 100 KPh, it's usually not reported anywhere near what you're experiencing. Some have reported that a premium oil like Motul lessens that vibration.

I did a test ride yesterday at speeds up to 80 km/h. Very impressed with the suspension and overall ride comfort. So impressed that I'll have to make a test on the highway to verify the vibrations you mentioned, because up to 80, they are not nasty. The ergonomics of the speed are fine for my size, 175cm.

Fantastic. Best review of the Triumph Speed 400 I have seen. I think Triumph is going to be very successful with these 400cc bikes. I hope you test the Scrambler 400x. I would be interested to know if the 14 tooth front sprocket has any difference in vibration and highway RPM. It is also a taller and longer bike, how would the different dimensions would feel. Scrambler rear tire is much taller. I think that plays into the front sprocket difference. I can't decide between the Scrambler/Speed yet but if I had the Scrambler I'd mount a 130/80 tire in place of the 140/80. And then install the 15 sprocket from the Speed. Good review.

So, using the latest 199cc Club engine in a Bantam D7 chassis, the Triumph T20B ‘ Bantam Club’ was born. But I guess the two stroke engine were probably more reliable! They all say it is a calmer riding experience against the Duke which just urges you to go on. What’s different then? Can only different handlebars and tires change a bike that much? Or maybe it’s some clever fuel mapping? I’m curious to hear your comparisons about this. Maybe you could get hold of both bikes for such a test?

The Speedy 400 is about 5.9 k € in 🇩🇪 for less you can have a new Z 400 two cylinder which is even lighter and more powerful with 4 years warranty and very long service intervals ( 42 tkm Valve service ) and the Kawasaki proved its reliabilty all over the world - at least the 🇯🇵 company is a better performer when it comes to spare parts after many years . The Speedy 400 is an excellent looking and quality build Classic Bike .

I've tested the Hunter and Interceptor. I didn't like either one because they felt bulky and slow to me. The hunter (20hp) had difficulty getting up over 100kph and seemed to top out at 110 kph or so. The interceptor was a nice ride, but once again it's heavy and underpowered (47hp) for a 650 twin. The RE bikes aren't the same as this Triumph, it depends upon what someone is looking for. Many RE owners are happy with their purchase.

Don't forget that old RE Himalayan is not nearing last few weeks of production. The new one has equal tech and power to this.

Can't get that here in Europe (Euro5), it was phased out for the 500, I know it's still in the N.A. & U.K. markets but for how much longer? & cc: 286 is closer to 398 than 398 is to 471 & hp: 32 is closer to 40 than 40 is to 47 If that's true I need to go back to school and re-learn basic math 🤣🤣🤣

Triumph have made smaller bikes in the past, one being the Tiger Cub. These were actually built in Britain unlike this one which is not really built by Triumph.
