Thank you for creating this video MX! I ride single track in Michigan on a 300 XC-W TPI and am considering adding a TF250X to the mix (replacing a YZ125X) so I can experience trails on a different style bike versus a couple 2 strokes. The video was very helpful as I could see the bike out of its natural element. The Triumph appeared to run out on the trails really well without signs of bogging or lack of low-end power on hills. I've always ridden two strokes, and heard the four strokes tend to be a bit more difficult in corners. I didn't see any of that here, and as your stated it seems to be quite playful still. Overall, it appears the TF is well suited as a single track bike if someone wants to use it there.

250F's can be very fun on the trails. I just picked up a new 2025 Honda CRF250R Works Edition...I am super impressed with the bike and it works great on the trails....nice to have choices! kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJCsoaOfhZyFg80

My understanding is dealers were told a 250F off road version is in the works. So far the only new model to be announced is the 450F motocross bike (official details released next week 10/2).

Jonny Walker will be riding Triumph next season.
@mxengineer1Ай бұрын
Yes - Walker already posted a video riding the TF250X on a moto track...will be fun to see him riding the TF in the woods and extreme enduros!
@randytidwell5836Ай бұрын
@@mxengineer1 he said with a double fan and a remapping they will be able to make it work. no doubt he will have it working great on the indoor endurocross stuff but the outdoor hard enduro stuff like Erezbergh, how it will do. Billy Bolt rides the piss out of a 4 stroke.
@mxengineer1Ай бұрын
@@randytidwell5836 I seem to recall maybe years ago Graham Jarvis used to ride a Sherco 250F in extreme enduro off road events. The engine in my Montesa 4RT 4-stroke trials bike runs amazing from zero to peak RPM's so it possible to make a 4-stroke run smoothly and be stall proof at low RPM....Tony Bou sure makes it look easy!

Does it flame out at all?
@mxengineer1Ай бұрын
@@DmitriyAdv I did not have any flameout issues. However I was not riding extreme or highly technical trails. You can snap the throttle at idle while in neutral and bog/stall the engine. Motocross Action magazine test mentioned this but I did not experience it first hand.

This bike is seems amazing, but out West you have to have a 6 speed trans on a 250f for off-road riding.

Yes 6-speed is best for offroad versatility

bet that bike would stack up well in the stop watch back to back test on the Offroad loop against the 350 or 450's! 250 4 strokes are awesome in flowy tighter trails!

I did set up a short tight woods loop and had a blast riding the TF250X! Really got me thinking about adding a 250F to the garage....25 CRF250 Works Edition😎

How is the Triumph? Seriously looking at a new bike.
@mxengineer17 күн бұрын
I like the chassis and handling - agile and lightweight feeling. The KYB suspension setting is a bit firm (mostly forks) but may be ok for faster riders. The engine is a bit soft down low with a fun mid range surge then a long RPM build to top end. The engine mapping is a bit off - you can snap the throttle at idle and flame the bike out (does not happen on other 250F's). I believe Triumph has updated the mapping for 2025 model year. The CRF250R Works Edition is not much more than the Triumph and a more refined and polished package overall.

I must have missed the tight woods section. Looked like all 2nd and 3rd gear trails.
@mxengineer1Ай бұрын
There is a dry creek bed from 1:40~2:20 and little tighter section of trail from 5:00~5:50 in this video. I did some trail loops in the woods but GoPro did not record any audio so hopefully I can re-do those loops in the future.

Thanks for sharing! I have a 23 350xcf which I love but it wears on me in tighter/tougher woods. I've been 250f curious lately for that reason. Interested to hear 250 XCF vs YZ250FX vs TF250FX motor characteristics comparison

YZ250FX will blow you away! Went from a 350 to the 250FX, best move I made

@@ridendrive I'm interested. Can you explain more? What year was your 350 and 250fx?
@ridendriveАй бұрын
@@tkrey23 2023 350 XC-F Factory w/ KYB suspension. Moved to 2024 YZ250FX. I prefer the chassis geometry, the motor is incredibly usable, the app allows you to really tune it to your liking, the match between the motor and the chassis is so much better from the standpoint of rideability and comfort, I have so much more confidence on the Yamaha and just love the way that bike rides. It’s also amazing that I prefer it stock which is nearly $5000 less than my Ktm.

I have a GasGas EX250F fully modded out with MX Tech suspension, GET ECU, all the stuff setup for woods single track. Overall it’s a fun bike. It doesn’t feel heavy. Rides very stable. Has gobs of traction. But…..in the real tight, creeping through rocks and between saplings woods, it’s more tiring to ride and I feel waves of heat coming off the engine which is kind of unpleasant in the summer. Stalling isn’t too bad as long as I remember to ride it in higher revs and like a 4 stroke. So compared to my GasGas EC300, I rate it more fun on faster trails where you can keep moving, keeps you warmer in the Fall, 😂, but on technical tight stuff with a lot of clutch work and jazz, the EC300 is a lot less work to ride and get through things. If I could only keep one it would be the EC300. That may also be because I live on East Coast and the kind of places I have to ride.

Great discussion and real world insights! For me the YZ250F engine (with reverse head/downdraft intake) set the bar for partial throttle torque feel and quick revving in 250F's. The updated chassis (24 model year) is more fun and agile and also a little taller and stiffer. The latest updates to soften the current KTM chassis (25 model year 250XCF) is noticeably better for comfort and a great combination of cornering and stability and the engine is very smooth and strong running especially from mid to top (24/25 model 250/350SXF/XCF engine mapping is updated and runs very well stock). Triumph is soft low to mid (borderline weak and noticeably less initial snap than the YZ250F and CRF250R and less than a KTM 250XCF) with a nice mid range and decently long pull on top. I would guess a little less peak power than the KTM. The TF250X is very fun in the woods with excellent front end feel.

I love the look of the triumph but to be honest the control switch on the handlebar looks confusing and almost cartoonish , I have seen one in person and it is impressive but understand there is a parts availableibilty problem but an awesome 1st year effort imo
@mxengineer1Ай бұрын
The Triumph TF250X looks much better in person -the build quality and craftsmanship is very good! The map selector is too big - not sure how that got through development. I have no idea about parts availability but Triumph has been selling street and adventure bikes for a while now so the infrastructure should be there to get moto parts.

Nice work! Wasn't expecting to see you on one so soon. Def looks playful. You can hear that it's well out of the meat of the power tho, much like a 250xcf. Really hoping they release some offroad timed cams in the enduro model. You're riding pretty flowy stuff. This is some footage from one of the older dudes on our ride yesterday, we need alot of versatility with bikes down here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJeXaGqihNqmqNE
