In this episode, we switch to searching mid-elevation locations for True Black Morels, and We Find Them!! We find a jackpot location with mushrooms all over a southwest facing slope.
Our channel shares our Utah Mushroom Hunting Adventures. We focus on edible mushrooms and share what we know about what we find.
Never eat a mushroom without 100% positive identification. Here is the Mushroom's of Utah Facebook Page you can use for help with mushroom identification ...

When asking for help with identification, remember to ...
1. Take a close up picture of the cap
2. Take a close up picture under the cap
3. Also of the stem and the base of the mushroom.
4. Mushrooms of Utah may ask you to take a spore print, so be prepared to do that if asked

No luck for me yet in Cache county, great to see all the success further south. I keep scouting for areas when I'm in the Weber area. Hope to find some soon. Thanks for the motivation!

Cache County is a little behind the rest of northern Utah, but it certainly should be kicking in for you there too. Weber county is popping like crazy right now. I hope you find some good ones!!

@@careymeade764 in Cache I only know of the major canyons as far as public land. Weber I’ve been around a few trails following the rivers in town. But, I haven’t been out there since last week.

I know no one likes to share spots, for obvious reasons haha. What about which county? I have been researching like crazy and know about which elevations, trees, environment and such markers to start looking. I have lived in utah my whole life, but have explored very little of it because my parents were not adventurers or canpers for that matter. My kids have shown a very keen interest in mushrooms alongside me, and we've been exploring the surrounding areas of bountiful but are planning a trip this weekend to go on a day trip. We are planning on driving at least 2 hours towards the northeastern part of the state to search mid elevation tree stands for any edible mushrooms. Not morels in particular, i dont expect to find those on our first outing or for anyone to share their spots for that. I was wondering if you or anyone would be willing to share the county at least for any mushrooms. I usually share my finds with the headstart class my daughter is in, and they go nuts haha. We're able to use the microscopes the class has and its super fun. So id love to be able to do this with some new mushrooms we havent looked over. So far, reishi, turkeytail, polypore, oyster, meadow mushroom, lbm's, but nothing super fancy haha. The mushrooms dont necessarily have to be edible, but just fun to look at minus extremely poisonous ones though since i dont want the class touching these ones with their hands which is kind of the point when sharing the mushrooms with the class. I want them to feel the different aspects of the mushrooms because the differences are so varied, even within one mushroom. Thats what makes it fun! I also think its very important to discuss and recognize mushrooms very early on, as it may save their lives if they're out camping with family and stumble upon a death cap or fly agaric. Anyways, long ramble, i appreciate any info, or even not, because your videos show me they're out there and im willing to look without any guidance because my family just like exploring either way. Thanks again!

Hello Danielle. Most people right now are finding them in Weber, Davis, and Utah county, and I bet they are now starting to pop in Wasatch, Summit, and Cache County. They are pretty much found in every county honestly. I am working on a video with more guidance that can be used in any county here in Utah. Send me a text at 801-787-5866 and I can give you some more help in the mean time. In addition, if you are interested I can add you to my list of people who want to go out on a hunt with me. That could really help as well.

Wow, sounds incredible!! I found a similar location in the Ogden area with crazy amounts of morels. I will be posting that video either later today or tomorrow. I do not recommend sharing locations online because that is how they get over ridden and over harvested. But it could be shared with a small group. I would be happy to trade your location for one of my good locations as well. Let me know if you are interested. You can text me at 801-787-5866.

What does "mid elevation" mean?
@UtahMushroomHunter
@UtahMushroomHunter 26 күн бұрын
Elevations here in Utah between about 5,000 and 6,000 feet. The low elevation morels (under 5,000 ft) started about two weeks ago, and now the mid elevation morels are now starting to pop.
