2024 Volkswagen Touareg R-Line review | Worthy of the R1.8mil price tag? | Cost of Ownership

A few observations: 1. The bigger issue for me is market segmentation. For a brand that claims to be the “people’s car”, VW is definitely punching above their weight from a pricing perspective. 2. A base Cayenne with a 3.0 V6 petrol engine starts from R1,968,000 as at the date of this reply. So having said that, a person who can afford a R1.8m Touareg can definitely afford a Cayenne, which is bizarre considering that the target of these two cars was initially intended to be two different classes of consumer. So just within the VW Group, the Cayenne is in fact cannibalising the Touareg. Before looking outside. 3. A salesman at VW once informed me that they sell 1 brand new Touareg a month on average, in the entire country. Which is believable because there are 3X as many Cayennes for sale on Autotrader than Touaregs.

10:47 "Dynaudio" is a premier loudspeaker manufacturer from Denmark (not some cheap/generic/obscure thingy) - it competes with the likes of Harman Kardon, Bose, Bang & Olufsen, et al. Maybe VW only chose one default sound system provider (Dynaudio) for the sake of "cost savings" or because of supply (shipping / component availability) issues with other audio manufacturers...

Hi Reba, Im from Eswatini, love your content. On the rims issue you mentioned earlier, my little research around that design suggests that those kinds of rims are more aerodynamic, less spaces for air to create uneccesary drag, therefore improves fuel efficiency.

Not worth it at all not only the staring whell but the overall quality of the car looks and feels like a golf SUV Getting an X5 or GLE should not even be a question Even its big sister the Q7 is way better. I dont know why manufacturers think that touch sensitive or haptic touch on staring wheel is more convenient,rather replace the whole staring wheel with a touch screen💁

A brand-new Jaguar F-Pace D300 is R1,711 mil, I'm not sure if the Toureg is better than that. At that price it's not worth it. Ignoring the X5, XC90, Q7, Q8, & the F-Pace is going to be difficult. You really gotta be a fan of the Toureg or VW, to actually choose it over the competitors.

The only VW I would consider for myself is the Touareg R-Line. But I hope they make a real "R" performance version - not just some fancy body kit/line. There's a difference between "R-Line" (body decorations) and "R" (engine + suspension engineering, to optimize for performance + dynamism ).

The Dynaudio is a more premium brand & of course sound system than Harman Kardon and typically the price will show. Volvo used to have it before moving to B&W. HK is less expensive in Volvo hierarchy. Also old Bugatti Veyron had it, not sure about Chiron. I'm not sure what you meant when you say these sound systems are after market?

Hi Reba, uhm the sky shots and coming down thing is not it, you taking wayyyyy to long to come down. I'm here to see the car review, so please show more of that. Didn't see alot of the back seats, the door cabinets. Nothing wrong with taking shots at night, to show the ambient lighting, the new front and back lights.
