All I ever wanted was a 7-seater electric SUV. The Tesla Model X was the clear (and only) choice until recently with cars like the Rivian and the Mercedes EQS, but the Model X was still the front runner… until now. I’ve been waiting for a fully electric Volvo 7-passenger SUV for many years and now that it’s here, I put it right up there with the Model X. Now I have a decision to make.

It should be fine. I own XC90 2020MY 7-seater and had no problems so far. The most reliable car I had to the moment (after KIA, Toyota, VW). Guess they fixed all the teething problems the SPA platform had in 2015-2018. So it should be fine. Family loves XC90 and it’s fun to drive it on daily basis -a cosy car with excellent sound system.

@@benjaminsmith2287 it’s an upgraded SPA that they call SPA2. For sure there will be some initial problems- there is no car that had no problems in the beginning of production. But I’m sure they will be minor compared to the launch of a brand new architecture after leaving the Ford platforms.

I had to decide whether to wait 2-3 years for the EX90 or buy an XC90 recharge with a one year delivery. My wife is disabled and with my normal holiday destination has one , yes only one charger within 10 miles in Devon England I played safe and have my XC90 recharge. The infrastructure isnt their and with more and more electric cars I can see huge problems coming down the road.

I always scratch my head when an automobile manufacturer states that their EV gets 300 miles of range but then states the fast charging times at 10-20 % up to 80% in 30 minutes... that means, if I am traveling, I lose 30-40% of my range (only 180-210 miles) unless I am willing to wait around for another 30 minutes to get 100% charge… allowing your EV to go below 20% charge is playing with fire since you may not be able to find a working charge station within that limit… with an ice vehicle, you can get down to 1% of fuel capacity and pretty much find another gas station in time to refuel and do so up to 100% in 5-10 minutes… even if I run out of gas completely, if I have a gas can, I can walk to a gas station, get 5 gallons of gas, walk back and have enough gas to get to the station and refuel… you lose all your charge on an EV you have a brick and all you can do is wait for a tow truck to tow you to the nearest charge station and wait around for 40-60 minutes for an 80% charge… all this inconvenience plus EVs are thousands, even 10s of thousands, of dollars more than the same ice powered vehicle… so, the fuel savings are mostly negated or an ROI is never realized because of the absurd initial price differences… Yeah… I believe EVs are probably the power source of the future for autos but, as of now, they are still the vehicles of risk-taking early adopters, the upper-middle class, and the rich… maybe in another 20 years, they will be affordable, and practical enough for the average consumer.

My model 3 is 300000km since June 2019, and I often go to 3%, even stopped to recharge at 1% a few times. I think the range they’re giving is the real one, not an homologated one.
@michaelfletcher1224
@michaelfletcher1224 Жыл бұрын
@@fabfabcemoi I’ve done similar a few times in my model 3 (85k miles) but doing so regularly does degrade the battery. His point is valid for many people. EVs are totally fine as commuter cars and can (if you have access to the supercharging network) be used on longer trip without much anxiety but the range and infrastructure (and price) are still years away compared to ICE vehicles. I’m an early adopter and I agree with all his points.

Shari, Thanks for the review. What EV buyers don’t know is that to produce an EV battery, they will have to drive their EVs 90K miles before they break even on the pollution aspect when you look at how much pollution goes into the atmosphere to create the EV batteries. Furthermore there are no safe places to discard any EV battery. They pollute the ground for hundreds of years, which will eventually get into our ground water.
@carhelpcorner
@carhelpcorner Жыл бұрын
I've heard this before. No question that you begin with a huge carbon deficit when buying an EV thanks to the battery. How long it takes to break even on that initial carbon deficit is debatable because of all the variables in the manufacturing processes and the variety of EV batteries. For some, it could take 20-30k miles to break even. In any case, this is an area where EVs will likely dramatically improve over the next decade...hopefully.

Don't get too greedy and don't get too scared like you obviously are now. The best way to measure your lack of investing success is not by whether you're beating the market but by whether you've put in place a detailed financial plan and a structured behavioural discipline that is likely to get you where you want to go. I know your an adult who failed to launch, but can you ask your parents if you are allowed to create a solid financial plan doubling your investments every 6 years? 🤔
