I’m really impressed that you’re still around doing it. It’s hard enough to run a team flatbed with my own authority. I remember when I started with a hotshot. The usual load board brokers care nothing about, the customer especially the carrier. Only if they can get the load moved for as cheap as possible. Then when it backfires on them. They tell the customer. The carrier left me hanging! Anything to get more business.

I understand why you might say that :) but let me share with you: I'm making $5900 on 3 partials from Dallas to Los angeles this week. I pulled into a shopping center to fix a broken nail, in my 1 ton. I'm going to drop my trailer in so cal so I can go visit my uncle... there's some freedom to this that I'm not ready to give up yet for a bigger living quarters. I watch all freight on loadboards. 48 flatbeds aren't necessarily doing much better rate wise, but they are doing it with less headache and partials to make the same in 1 truckload opposed to 3 partials. I dispatch a 48 flatbed, he stays in the $2.75+ rpm and does it 1 load at a time

A 24 footer? If you're planning to work off loadboards I wouldn't get anything less than 40 feet. If you have local direct customers already lined up and don't need 40 feet, you can service those customers with 24 feet, then sure I would go with a smaller trailer
