In February 2024, drift ice will arrive in Rausu, Hokkaido. At the same time, large birds of prey, the Steller's sea eagle and the white-tailed eagle, also appear. They come from the Amur River basin in the far north to Shiretoko to spend the winter. The purpose of birds is to fly to find fish to eat. They do not spend the winter in a warm place. According to the locals, when pollock fishing was more popular in Rausu than it is now, they used to target fish that fell from fishing boats. It is said that from then on, they started coming to Shiretoko.
In this video, I took a picture of birds and drift ice on a sightseeing boat. The sight of large eagles running around in search of fish up close is truly impressive. Many birds of prey flap their wings right in front of your eyes. It is a valuable sight to see at least once. The scenery of the morning sun and the eagles is also a valuable video. Please take a look at this opportunity.
