The 2024 World Athletics Awards celebrated the top athletes of the year, and Letsile Tebogo from Botswana and Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands took home the prestigious titles of Male Athlete of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year. Tebogo made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics, winning Botswana’s first-ever Olympic gold in the 200m with an African record time of 19.46 seconds. Meanwhile, Hassan became the first athlete in 72 years to win medals in the marathon, 5,000m, and 10,000m at the same Games.
We also highlight other major award winners, including Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Mondo Duplantis, and Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who had outstanding performances in track and field during the Paris Olympics 2024.
