The CEO of Toyota; perhaps the most reliable, best and highest selling brand for the last 30 years earns around 7 million per year, yet the greedy Mary Barra of GMC (One of the very worst) makes THIRTY MILLION DOLLARS. Let that sink in.

Ever since the 40th President of the USA (43 and 45 as well) cut the Capital Gains Tax, profit growth at nearly any cost is how the publicly traded members of the Fortune 500 do business. That's because Mary Barra, the Board and other CEO's don't earn that much in a salary, their compensation has to do with stock prices...

What’s going on is that people are defending their high ticket purchase I’m sure Rivian is a good company and will make the tweaks to improve where it can. The only rivian I’ve been in was underwhelming. But no experience other than just a ride. I’d be more worried if CR were pushing new product with untested reliability… would make me suspicious they are profiting somehow . IMHO the list checks out because as long as I’ve wanted a JEEP wrangler, I also want to live… so I never got one 😂

Some of CR’s ratings are subjective like comfort and road feel. But their reliability data is based on owner surveys. Still, even though a car brand may not be very reliable, people could still like it for other reasons that outweigh reliability. Look at Jeep for instance, lots of people love those despite relatively low reliability.

Checking Rivian groups, I found a lot to be concerned about. One owner: "46 days to get a service appointment for my Rivian in the Bay Area. Like OP. Mine is making a ton of clunking noises and going back for the 5th time. Not to mention an axle that broke around 3k miles left us stranded on the side of the road." Also Rivian has a (still unresolved) vampire drain issue.

Those are the ones with the lithium battery inside the passenger compartment. Those videos of vehicles exploding were Jeep 4xes. The videos circulated for a year before going viral and the next day Jeep recalled them claiming it was due to a routine analysis. How could they fix a problem like that? Seal off the compartment and put in a snorkel? It's supposed to be off roadable so they might have done that to keep water out of the battery. Not good if you don't want dead occupants. Incredible that the regulators let them get away with this. The new Boeing.

@japanwatchconnection, if you're looking for a Honda car, I would suggest sticking with the 2.0-liter Honda engine, either naturally aspirated or at least multi-port fuel injected with turbo. In my opinion, their 1.5-liter turbocharged engine is not very good and was probably designed just for C.A.F.E. ratings. However, you can take your chances if you like. If you're interested, I recommend watching videos by Scotty Kilmer or The Car Care Nut discussing that engine in Honda vehicles before making a decision. Regarding the other three brands, I think they should be hybrids, such as Toyota, Lexus, and Mazda hybrids."

I’ve had my Jeep Gladiator for 4 years. No problems. A lot of people complain about Jeep’s rough ride and noise. They compare it to their other SUVs or trucks but the Wrangler and Gladiator are not even close to being designed like those. They are designed for off road capability not quite or smooth on road performance. The Jeep SUVs as shown though are comparable.

Jeep Wrangler is a niche product. Although one of the most recognizable, there are people that buy it solely do to its status as such. It's hard to make a luxury variant with its platform. I bought a Wrangler, but only do to its offroad capabilities. And I was willing to disregard its flaws, as such. It is a very cool vehicle, and they have done much to make it better. The one thing I find unnecessary are the electronics, I fail to see why it needs so much.

CR is very untrustworthy IMO. It's like they're paid by different brands and they take reviews and blow them out of proportion. We also don't know the backstory of some of these reviews either. Wasn't this list based off of NHTSA service and recall data and customer surveys. Everybody knows Toyota makes the most conservative and reliable cars. It's been like that for at least 40 years and the gap is just getting bigger. Nissan fell off the map in the early nineties and Honda has started doing poorly just recently. The only anomaly is Porsche. But the Americans are so bad now they can't scrape by making anything at all economical and the Germans were government funded and running off the backs of other European nations (for cheap parts and modules) and ultra cheap Russian energy. Now that's all gone and they're failing at EVs more then anybody. Too complicated. Too tightly packaged. Parts too expensive. Too much labour to repair. Don't know how to integrate software. And everybody knows Range Rover is a pretend premium German car without any reliability at all.

When a device becomes unusable to the point it is as useful as a brick. This can happen to vehicles where the software encounters an error that prevents operation. These can leave you stranded and unable to move the vehicle to a safe place. You could relate this to a vehicle's engine seizing up from not changing the oil. Software issues cannot always be fixed and sometimes requires replacement.

It means that something happened so that the item can no longer function at all. It usually happens with equipment containing a computer (or computers), and it either got a software update where the new software doesn’t work, and also makes it unable to be reloaded with the old software if you wanted to go back. It could also be a critical hardware component that failed, rendering the item completely inoperable

Also, look into the costs of accident repair costs on Rivians. They might be the worst in the world.

Your hearsay approach to what’s bad is juxtaposition to how you rate your cars. I am surprised to note the amount of fluff throughout your little piece and am amazed you even put your name on it. All in the interest of finding new customers. I was a member of your community and actually left after 2 years based upon the fact that I had to pick out relevant bits in most of your reviews. That said your offerings were at least high in integrity. What I see in this fluff piece is much lower brow than your capabilities. Btw. I love the GC it is our second one. Speaking of Mopar offerings we also had a 2006 Chrysler 300c heritage ed. A 2010 Charger r/t. We also just parted with a challenger hellcat after 6 years of ownership. Mopar makes grand products on my humble opinion. I can’t speak to your other targets but one guy with a 40 day issue with vibration is not evidence enough to disregard the model. We just purchased a new Corvette C8 it also uses the tried and true 6.2 engine that you bashed. It works great in the corvette. Jg

I did try an Acura TLX A-Spec, kept that car less than two years due to the reliability issues, transmission , new computer, sensors, then the fuel pump. Consumer reports is flawed in data collection and ratings. If you are the owner of a problematic vehicle and you have an avenue to complain about it or express frustration, you tend to do it. In addition, rating a vehicle based on interior noises doesn’t reflect true reliability and overall dependability.
