I think its the tree that saved him. It finally caused the nose to lower and the glider gained a more efficient angle of attack so he flew away and lived happily ever after! ;)

To be fair to him it kind of looked like the wind did start to blow down the hill just as he stepped of the ramp.

The pilot let the nose up right off and then kept it up, getting just enough speed to squeak over that tree. , Get speed, my friend. That was a lazy launch.

Amazing. No matter how hard we try, pushing out increases the sink rate. Maybe push out harder.

I always remember a hang gliding intructor who used to say " If you want to go up , push out. If you want to go down, push out further ! "😃

Obviously, he took off with rear wind. It's very dangerous.

Lazy run, high nose. Lucky he didn't stay on that tree!

Ângulo de ataque estolado (nariz alto) e pouca velocidade na corrida, além de iniciar a decolagem, no aclive da rampa. Ou seja, tudo errado.
Never start the takeoff behind the edge of a ramp. Align the glide angle with the angle of the launch ramp. I also recommend that you return to the practice slope and practice the takeoff on less steep terrain. This will help you develop a feel for the glide angle.
