Look forward to watching your videos. Quick comments : I took an Opsack and found that the ziplock broke after 3 weeks on trail. The ATC still recommends hanging an Ursack and not tying it to a tree. You might want to consider a lighter option. I am excited for you. You'll crush it.
@canadianbacon24545 күн бұрын
@@deedle4180 I have lived that nightmare with the opsack. I always carry a spare. Moved over to the adotec certified bag with smelly proof bag. Will see how it goes. Can tie or hang then.

Looks like a solid kit! You should be plenty warm with your setup, I started February 2023 with a -6 degree Celsius quilt and somehow survived. If my year was typical then it shouldn't be too cold, I had a handful of nights where it got to around -10 Celsius, but for the most part it was barely below freezing. Very manageable. I really like the ursack too, it's super easy to hang at night. Just remember that it's not rodent-proof. I don't think you mentioned if you had an Opsak or not, I'd definitely recommend one. Both for peace of mind with rodents and as a secondary bag to store food in during the day when your ursack gets soaked by rain all night. Good luck and enjoy your hike!
@canadianbacon2454Ай бұрын
@@AlertBunion Thanks for all the advice and knowledge. Really appreciate that you took the time. I do have opsacks and I have the new Adotec grizzly certified bag arriving today with some smellyproof bags. I understand it has the rodent avoidance too!!

Count down starts! 😊 Hey do you follow 5 Stack? He did the AT this year, and this week put up a video of his winter gear and what it was like for him when he started out early in the season. It got cold on him a few nights, but it looks like your kit is pretty well set up. I am quite jealous of your 0 degree EE quilt anyway! 😂 Are you flying or driving down? If flying, are you checking your bag? Check the regs on the 20,000mah battery. Some are not allowed in carry-on. Oh...and I just thought of this. Do you have rain mitts? Decathlon has them, they're effective and very lightweight and affordable.
@canadianbacon2454Ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting! Yes - I followed 5stack’s hike all the way. He made me laugh out loud and I was jealous of 2 things he had - his super long stride and his down pants! 😂. There’s no money in the budget to add down pants to my list, but boy that was a brilliant idea! I will be driving down with my husband and he will see me off on springer Mountain. As for rain, I haven’t found anything really worthy here, but I do have an extra tough pair of dishwashing gloves in my pack just to put over the wool gloves in a pinch . Rubber is waterproof, right? 😂 and they were super cheap!
@musingwithreba9667Ай бұрын
@canadianbacon2454 those down pants are on my wish list as well! 🤣

If you use your ursack be sure to also use the OPSack bags. They’ll make everything odour proof so nothing will find your bag. I’ve devised a kit for a 2:1 lightweight pulley system to lift a heavy good bag such that the corsage is not rubbing or snagging on the tree branch. I can share if you’re interested. I think the new ADOTEC bear bags are a bit smaller than the Ursack ones. I’m curious which treadmill you use. I’d like to get one so I can train.
