Not really bringing them back, they have always been there, but nobody speccs them, since they dont work well with most colors. Most colors just look better with the black optics package.

@@TheEryk03 Not really. Its either a screen or a black panel of the same shape. I don't think most people have a problem with the screen, but with the design of the screen beeing there. If you don't opt for the screen, you get a black panel there, which doesnt change the design unfortunately. Just having a flat dash on the passenger side like on the B9.5 would be better in my eyes, there is literally no need for a 3rd screen in the front.

4:05 The reason for using S-tronic is that it has limit of 550nm which this 3.0TFSI is inside the range which this transmission can handle. If it exceeds 550nm then they need to use ZF8 which is most likely more expensive and or worst for co2 emission.

This is a new version of the S-tronic - the 550 Nm were for the last generation. I read they reinforced the gearbox quite a bit - sadly no Nm numbers out yet. As a engineer i would guess the use of dual-clutch has some efficiency reason with the new 'Triebstranggenerator'. Also it will be related to the upcoming Euro7 regulations. Dual-clutches have a better efficiency than torque converters in general. I would not be surprised to see the 2.9 evo engine of the upcoming RS with that S-tronic aswell.

looks like they improved on the engine laziness of the b9 generation. that was the biggest drawback of that car in my opinion. you HAD to brake boost it to get proper performance which isn't practical. also think the DCT is an upgrade over the prior gen ZF8 (remember Audi did not tune the ZF8 as good as BMW). I think Audi did a great job all things considered

They switched from the 8HP to the DCT for CO2 and easier MHEV Integration. The DCT is mechanically more efficient. Also that Launch control is visious!!!

Been saying this since the release... better than I expected. Exterior is great (speaking about the Avant, the "sedan", that really is a sportback-ish-car, looks weird) with black optics package at least, not a fan of those huge silver elements in the front. Interior is ok, not a fan of the screen layout (why do we even need a 3rd screen? Most unneeded feature ever put into a car). It not beeing a diesel anymore is a huge step up though.

One thing to add on 7:20min … maybe the press map wasn’t correct or this channel misunderstood something wrong. Anyway… At Audi you always have automatic upshifts in manual mode at max engine speed - except of RS-Modells, the R8 or Modells with Race-Mode. Just there you can touch the rev limiter.

I honestly wish Audi would return to the philosophy of the early-mid 2000s. When there was still wood and beautiful colors in the interior. I think their newer push for this excessive minimalism has really taken lots of taste from the cars. The cars now just look to bleak and minimal even for Audi, which has always been under-the-radar. Also too much plastics, as cool as it is, carbon fiber in cars is really just plastic. It’s just as much a luxury car as it is a sporty car. So metal, leather and wood are still important. All that said, I love wagons and I’m happy that we have newer Avants, and I actually love the way this looks so much! Oh… and I HATE that stupid passenger screen. Like people aren’t already glued to screens 24/7 🙄

i really hate the new interior. Previous gen was picb interior quality and design. Felt so easy and so relaxing. Also while the exterior in not bad, is not as good and i definatelly not like the rear light bar. The v6 is good, but i prefer the v6 tdi for an s model. It was so unique.

I think it's time Audi became independent. Being a part of VAG is literally holding back the brand. Having to purposely making less good cars because they basically have to allow Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini to make better cars. And that's the difference between Audi, BMW and Merc. BMW and Mercedes don't have to hold themselves back for the sake of other brands within the group. They're at the top. This S5 looks great, and seems to drive really well. But i know it could've been so much better. The interior isn't great, but it isn't bad either. The piano black should've been brushed aluminium. The 3rd screen is poorly integrated and the main screens shape odd. The entire engine is still in front the axle. Hit and a miss, again. The exterior is the only thing better than it's competitors. Also 400hp would have been the perfect number as I am expecting the RS5 to have over 500. If it doesn't, Audi will certainly lose even more sales.

@MAG-Crew actually, yes. RSQ8 and the Urus, Macan and Q5, A7 and Panamara. So yes, Audi can't make cars that are better than those of the more premium brands in the group. Lamborghini and Porsche get the best bits, such as materials and performance specs.

yess, the abomination of TDI is gone in EU. annoyingly the 'muricans got the petrol engine in the S4, whereas in EU after facelift it was available on the cabrio S5 only... PS: as a previous owner of a manual S4 B8, I want one!!! but that supercharged engine was a gem! except for the timing chain, which costs 5000-6000€ to have it replaced here in Germany

Yes, A5, A7 will be MHEV (mild hybrid = engine with a small electric motor that can't be charged with a cable) and A4, A6 will be full EV without an engine
