The new m5 has great presence. You know it's an M5 when you see it. I sometimes hate that the f90 m5 wasn't more distinct. I'm actually interested in buying this, but a lot of people who have no interest of buying the cars in this segment are waking up and hating on it. So weird.

That's like saying u don't like the f90 m5 because you saw a 540i lmao. This is what people always say ab the new models, then everyone ends up loving them all the same. I think it's just about people not wanting to let go of their old vehicles, and to retain the value by acting like the new one isn't better. Everyone will want this one over the f90 because it's newer, and the the H90 comes out, it'll be sameee🤷🏻 that's it. Y'all can keep ripping an ancient 2017 model, but u know you'd trade it for a newer one for the same price.

I got out of my 545e and have G90 ordered. I can understand the broad anxiety over weight. In another World, we could stick with ICE. In the US where petrol is as expensive as water, a land virtually free of automotive taxation, I can understand the annoyance with Germany’s decision. If Americans understood the EU’s push on elimination of air-pollution and reducing fossil fuel usage, they’d be more understanding of the G90. Throwing rocks at the car because it’s not a 5.0 V12 pushing 900hp is just completely ignoring the global political climate in 2024. And ‘global’ is key here. BMW sell to 100% of the World not just the 4% of the global population the USA represents.

S68 on it's own is a great engine, I just wish they didn't weigh it down with a heavy battery. IMHO for a sports car a tiny mild hybrid to spool the turbos would be a great middle ground to keep emissions in check and boost up high from low revs.

To be honest the design is growing faster than first thought.... however something still needs to be done about the out of place rear diffuser boxes sitting above the exhausts. Then slightly lowered with some aggressive concave wheels like the m6 gran coupe will finish it off. The battery will no doubt be a concern for someone looking to buy this used? Wonder what the bmw warranty will be for that.

Way I see it, the G90 M5 is a very fast 5 series, but the F90 M5, is an M5 - seen a lot of reviewers say you don’t feel the weight but they’ve drove it in isolation and mostly low speed or highway pulls. Throttle house had them back to back and they said it can’t hide its mass compared to the F90.

Mind you the reduced engine output is due to how the engine is managed by stock ECU tunes. The S68 is literally S63 DNA, but perfected, and would easily handle the same output as a stock S63 but even better. My guess is that reliability was one of the prime aims, and certainly implementing better rod bearings and turning down the boost would yield a more dependable engine IMO this is the PINNACLE of the 5 series lineage by simply being less track focused and more autobahn focused. A 5 series IMO is supposed to be bigger than a Honda Accord, and cruise comfortably and lavishly at 300kmh. If the next gen M3 weighs 5000lb because of bulk and a hybrid powertrain then that would upset me a bit not gonna lie

As a diehard bmw fan, i like how g90 looks in general, but its too much, too much of everything, the meaning of m5 when it started its production was to be a sleeper, now it does not look like a sleeper by any means, i will be honest, i prefer the looks of g60 i5 m60, g90 is like putting every single mod you can put on a car in gta ls customs, its just… too much for a “sleeper” objectively a good car, this is just my opinion

The poors can't get over the weight even though a lot of thought went into making it a great hybrid. Look at the C63, which is a class below and almost the same price as an M5. What is everyone complaining? BMW kept the V8, met EURO regulations, made the car look distinct and unique. didn't sacrifice trunk space (battery under the body), and modernized it. With the way the industry is moving be glad they kept the V8. The f90 is a great car, but looks so dated compared to this. By the way, the non-hybrid C8 RS7 weight close to 5000lbs. The weight for the new M5 is within range of hybrid cars in this class.

@shoe3k As a '22 M5 Comp owner, I am more disappointed in the styling and I believe the head of BMW was disappointed as well since, they hired Polestar's designer to replace the current designer. I saw the G90 and G99 touring in person and the G99 looked better proportionally. Also, I am not a fan of the front; if you do not have plate on the front bumper then you would see two huge squares. Also, the back diffuser is just too big and pronounced. Now, I do appreciate BMW's attempt to distance the M5 from the rest of the 5 series (especially the M performance models) with the wider fenders (I hate the rock chips behind my wheels because the wheels are wider than the fender)

I own a '22 F90 and the problem I have with the G90 design is the front air ducts with the two large squares (chin). Most pictures of the new M5 have front plates which, visually breaks up the 2 massive squared air ducts. Also, I believe the designers over did it with the rear diffuser; it is just too pronounced. Now the good, I love how BMW added the wider fender arches and wish my car had them. For one, the wider fenders protects it from rock chips, gives the car a more aggressive stance and it visually separates the M5 from the performance model. Also, I love the interior except for not having a shifter lever instead of the click lever. Note: I am quite aware most M5 users do not use shifter but the paddles. I just think it give M vehicles something the lesser models do not have. For example, to put my car in reverse, I have to move my shift lever to left and then top which, mimics a manual gearbox.
