If the U.S would bring back vintage designs, nothing could compete with them.

Nothing except a more economical vehicle with better build quality and generosity of spirit in what comes as standard, and with a warranty twice as long, like a couple of certain Korean manufacturers warranty, but you wrote, "design", not engineering, and I agree. Even when Asian brands copy or emulate U.S. design, British design and other classic European designs for their sporty cars, they gain success.

Back on 27January, 1967, I paid $250 for a 1958 Bel Aire. It had 111,000 some miles on it. It had a four-barrel carb with dual exhaust. It had a 348 cubic inch V-8. It was mostly through, but I was just a callow kid, and I knew not any better. It was an expensive education in jalopies and automotive economics. I kept it until late October of that same year. During that time I replaced all of the tyres, re-covered the front seat, replaced freeze plugs, replaced the leaky radiator, replaced a wheel bearing, replaced most of the exhaust system, gave up on power steering and just strong armed it around, and then finally gave up sold the old wreck for $50 and went back to the bicycle and to walking. Woe. In 1970, I was riding my bicycle home from work and decided to take the scenic route past a junk yard. There on the edge was what was formerly my '58 Bel Aire. I know it was mine from the devastation down most of the driver's side of the body and the doors on that side. The engine and the transmission were together on the ground and the radio was gone. I thought, "You old hunk of junk. Just where you belong." Looking back, I would love to have a brand new '25 Bel Aire just like that '58 was when it was new. I do not need any of that electronic crap save for the radio. I might go with a transistorised radio. I would add some seat belts and a right side view mirror, but other than that, I would make no changes. I get frustrated with all the complicated bells and whistles on my new Silverado, and I made a special point to choose the cheapest and least complicated model.

Ah ha! Somebody else that doesn't care for all this modern "conveniences" I hate power locks and windows in vehicles. Just another thing to go out on you and make you spend hundreds of dollars on to fix. My family have owned many vehicles (of a few different brands that had either the power window or locks or both go out on them and it's always costly to fix. Most of the time we just didn't roll that one down and hoped that it wasn't the driver's side. 🙄 I like simplicity in a vehicle too! 😁
@bobmoore7481Ай бұрын
This article is probably not true because it’s very unlikely any motor company would risk all on a retro model. Having said that, wouldn’t it be great to see modern versions of some old models. Yes the Bel Air, but what about an XK Jaguar, or a SL Mercedes. Even the original DS Citroen in modern guise. What about the Ford Zephyr. Yeh, bring it on.

@bobpierce1152 ай бұрын
That's it exactly Daniel. It cannot be duplicated. The idea is ridiculous, and the readers here very naïve and foolish to believe in this nonsense. In certain parts 3:07, 3:16, 3:40 they've taken what appear to be actual early 1958 model proposals, probably from late '55 or early '56 before the '58 was locked in, and the actual '58 retained some elements. Some onto the '60 actually, that has more design continuity with the '58, than the '59. Anyway, there are all kinds of AI videos of new versions of 2025 Impala's liked an updated '67, or 6th gen Camaro-based El Camino's and Chevelles that are also total b.s. other than as a fun "what if?" but that's it, nothing more. I have owned 3 1957 Belairs over the years, a 2 door hardtop, a 2 door post and a 4 door post. Each one I modernized with power steering, power disc brakes, vintage air, 350 engines, 700r trans and firebird rear ends. All got the new digital dashboards, and new wiring harnesses. I'm too old to do another one. But they do sell well when I sell the completed. I also added American Mags to the 2 doors and sport rims to the 4 door. I like this concept. I would consider owning one.

I think it’s great to modernize old favorite models. It’s an idea that older senior citizens and new younger drivers will purchase.

Yes, I work at GM, and GM is building this in 2025 to be included in their new vintage line along with the new SS chevelle.

Dad bought a yellow and white 1955 Bel Aire brand new in late 1954. He died in Feb of 1955. My brother, newly married with child on the way, got the car. He drove it until the 1970's when it just wouldn't go no more. It was a two door, "hard top convertible" meaning there was no center post between the front and back side windows. I remember Dad being so proud of that car.

I LOVE vintage cars. My family's first car was a 1953 Pontiac Star Chief, the first car my oldest brother learned to drive, it was a beauty. In 1964 when the Mustang came out & I got my license I dreamed of owning one. It took me 40 years to finally get one. I bought a 40th anniversary MACH 1, shaker hood and all in RED, my favorite Mustang color. I'm now a 76 year old kid again. My most cherished possession next to my dog, LOL.

For me it would be a dream fulfilled. In 1957 when I was 13 years old, my Father and I went to different car dealerships looking around for something nice but large enough for our family. I loved the Chevy Belair and begged my Dad to buy it. But he decided on a Pontiac station wagon instead and boy, I was disappointed then and still am to this day. God Rest my Father. He passed away this year at age 100.

The 1957 Bel Air was the coolest looking car ever. I am a boomer, born in 1949 so 8 yrs. old then. The 2025 Bel Air is bound to be another classic right up there with the '57. I want one in red, are they making four- door models? I wish my brother were still alive ( COVID), he'd love it and want one. I think most boomers would. Nice work Chevy and the designer behind it.

It would be nice if the do rebuild the 55 in 2025, the 56 in 2026 and the 57 in 2027 for 3 straight years will be a nostalgic Revival for Chevrolet

I am partial to the 1961 2 door Belair with the 409 engine. The 1957 was beautiful to look at; but the 195 horse 283 with a powerglide trans was ineffective an for the weight of the vehicle. Bring back a 409, which was originally a truck engine with modern technology, you could build a monster if put into a retro 61 Belair 2 door body Remember oldsmobile at time was the experimental part of gm. They were running tripper when Chevy didn't come up with a v8 until 1955. It was a weak leaky 265 cubic inch engine; later improved to the 283 . Remember Chevy was officially out of racing. Civilians with competitive intelligence made Chevy competitive. ..

Had a '55 2 door hardtop. Loved cruising the Buffalo Thruway windows down, radio up, wind blowing thru, yes 2-55 A/C. Got a '55 Convertible for $ 80 bucks in '63. Boy wish I had them now. But had fun while I had 'em.

Going back to the older designs makes sense, because they worked well before. The public also relates well to them for being so recognizable. I believe Chevy also wanted to bring back the Nova, which was also a great classic.
