Honda and Garmin quote 3-4 hours to download the update including about 30mins to install at the car. I've owned 40 vehicles in my lifetime. Some of the best: Toyota Corolla, Camry, RAV4, Plymouth Fury 318 engine(when they came with a 50,000 mile warranty). Some of the worst: Honda Accord (3 different years), Chrysler Cordoba, VWs (all 3 gave me problems). Oldsmobile Cutlass, Pontiac Firebird, Bonneville. Most of these were bought new. I have gone primarily with Toyota for the last 23 years. I tried a Ford Escape in 2019 on the advice of a colleague, but soon went back to a new RAV4. Any brand can have a lemon. I had a bad Toyota Celica 30 years ago that put me off the brand, but since 2001 have been convinced of their quality. My first car was a ‘54 Ford. My present is a 2024 RAV4. I have never understood why America can no longer seem to produce a reliable automobile.

I have owned both and I think the Mazda is better. Here is why. 1. Driving the Mazda is really fun. 2. The Mazda handles really well, sticks to the road. Drive one and see. 3. The interior is Lexus quality, real wood on the top models. High quality leather seats with high quality stitching. The steering wheel also is high quality stitching. 4. The Ultra, direct injection High-Compression Engines for great performance and very good fuel economy. The styling, I know that is subjective but I prefer the lines of the Mazda. 6. The transmission is a very smooth and reliable 6 speed. I own a 2014 Mazda3 which is approaching 100,000 miles. I will never get rid of this vehicle. Also I own a 2019 CX-5 which is turbo charged, so when you need the pop to pass someone you have it. It is the Signature model, fully loaded. I have had no problems with either vehicle. Regular maintenance is something I was taught by my father so I have always done that.

@ Mitsubishi’s aren’t readily available in our area. We’d have a 3 hour drive one way to get to a dealer. Mitsubishi was recently bought by Renault and when Nissan was bought by Renault in the early 2000s, Nissan’s quality Tanked. Furthermore we live 30 miles from the city (5 miles from town) up in the mountains of north central Washington state USA. Our road is private so we have to plow the 5-7 feet of snow and maintain our road by ourselves. An AWD system has to be great just to get up our road and into our garage. The AWD system on my wife’s Outback is one of the best and she still has to put her Outback into X mode just to get up our road and her Outback can go places that my Rav couldn’t. @@mhannanamit Who cares? They don't make decisions on the manufacturing of these vehicles. Toyota has been going downhill for well over a decade. Over 100,000 2022 and 2023 Toyota Tundras are being recalled due machining debris inside engines. They are replacing over 100,000 engines! I'll never buy a Toyota.

You forgot about Suzuki. Here in South Africa, Suzuki sells the third most cars these days after Toyota and Volkswagen. And the latter two have manufacturing plants in South Africa, which says a lot about the trust Suzuki has built up with the SA public. Suzuki's secret is simplicity. They mainly use naturally aspirated engines and stay away from things like turbochargers and unnecessary electronics, which can cause problems. I am the proud driver of a Suzuki 1.5 Vitara Brezza and I have toured extensively across South Africa and Namibia, without any problems. I am past the days when speed and power were all I looked for in a car. Reliability and great fuel economy are the priority in 2024.

Both Subaru and Mazda are partially owned by TOYOTA!! So does Lexus. Honda is also good - my 2001 Odyssey runs well after 150,000 Miles. The engine is great, although the transmission had to be replaced TWICE, each after about 60,000 miles.!
@JimFrye-ub3kqАй бұрын
Sorry to hear about your bad luck with your transmissions. My 1999 Odyssey now has well over 300,000 on the original transmission. It threw a code on weak third shift solenoid, and I replaced that at around 200k, but that was it. I'm pretty sure many Honda trans. were replaced when the problem didn't dictate full replacement. Drain and fill on fluid is an absolute must every 30k but that's allI ever did.
@generaclesdey4622Ай бұрын
@@JimFrye-ub3kq The first transmission failed and Honda replaced it at around 60,000 Miles. The second failed in the same way. I went to a "shade-tree-mechanic" in LA and he replaced a few parts for almost $2000. It's been running well since.

Funny but true story. Test drove a 2006 Toyota Camry and mentioned to the salesperson that I was going to test drive a Hyundai sonata. He proceeded to tell me that sonatas were a piece of c*** and did not compare to toyota's. Told me if I pulled on the door handle of a sonata I'd be lucky if it didn't come off in my hand and at that point he pulled on the door of the Camry and said now this is quality and the handle came off in his hand. I laughed my ass off as I was walking away from the dealership. Bought Hyundai Azera.Ten years of trouble free driving.

Last three cars were RAV 4. I owned a new Porsche totaled it in an accident. End of the day it and was not worth the price of insurance and repairs. Next cars were slightly used BMW and Mercedes. Nice look in the Driver seat, but not that special. Just purchased my first Lexus with all the Bells and Whistles. This is my favorite car from all the other vehicles. My RAV 4’s were sweet but Brand New NX is it. Maybe a new RX in 5 years but definitely Lexus.

I am sure those recommendations are based on test data. However, being all the recommended brands are Japanese, is there any independent investigation done, making sure those test data were not falsified (during the last five years, multiple Japanese auto-makers, including Toyota, are admitting they have been falsifying their test data for decades.) and verifiable by third-party tests?

Their dealers are great at "bait and switch": advertise a stripped down car with no or little add-ons for a great price that mysteriously was "just sold", but they have one just like it except for a few add-ons. That drive the price up exponentially! 🤨

I have owned 4 Toyotas, two were the very special Corolla GT16s, So fast, bulletproof motor could and did race a 911 down a country road and win. OK they did destroy their gearboxes when thrashed my a Maniac because the gearbox was designed to take mum and the kids to school and back. Mazda MX5 so simple, so light a work of art. Subaru I have not owned but my best mate has had 3 he loves them, before that he had BMWs, then Volkswagen Turbo GTIs which spilled their guts at low mileage and $$$. What you don't really mention is Mercedes. That is what I now run, two of which. I have A Classe E from 2002, 370 000 Km on the clock, it still can do 130 MPH+ in complete luxury has never left me broken down at the side of the road. Taxi drivers tell me it will do 500 000 Km. Now that is Reliable. Then there is the queen Bitch, my Mercedes SL500, That's a 5 litre V8 convertible top of the range does everything. If a cloud goes over the sun and an alert light lights up. The car still drives to the garage, where a Mercedes mechanic takes the keys and after 30 minutes I have a $1000 bill. That is not reliable.
