I just bought a 2024 Blazer EV RS RWD and immediately took it on a 2000 mile road trip from PA to WI and back. Verdict: I LOVE IT. The ride is fantastic, the seats are very comfortable, the screens are awesome, my kids love the back seat, and I was making 3.1 mi/kW doing interstates speeds. The power curve is great and there is lots of kick even at 80 mph. I don't miss Android Auto as as much as i feared I would. The built in system is very good once I got used to it and the google assistant does a lot to help with navigation. The my Chevrolet app also works very well for remote monitoring and tracking. The luggage space was very usable and we manage to get all suitcases in plus a stroller and toddler carrying hiking pack. I got it loaded up for just over 49k out the door price including tax and all fees. I would absolutely buy it again and hope you do the long term test vehicle! Thank you for the detailed and honest reviews as it was a huge part of my research!

I should also mention, while tooling around SW Wisconsin at more normal backroads speeds I was averaging closer to 3.3mi/kW based on battery percentage drop and was exceeding the EPA estimate by a bit. Quite happy with that

tepid compared to dual motor competitors- but there are other EVs in the same price range that are not any faster. The RWD Mach E has a 6.5 sec 0-60 as did the RWD model Y when it was available. Fully agree regarding out the door pricing - essentially how I ended up leasing a Bolt for a few years. People would ask me why I didn't get a Model 3 instead...easy, because the Bolt was a good $15k cheaper in the real world. Saw your FB post about the $270 all in lease you got - that's a hell of a deal, congrats! My only gripe is that GM should be more transparent with their pricing, perhaps they'll gain more attention from buyers. Even looking at local lease specials all I see are at around $600 a month all in on their web specials....perhaps they're better in person? But you're not going to attract casual buyers who would legitimately take your car for $250-300/month price, if you're going to make them them jump through the painful dealership hoops to even see that price. I can order a Polestar 2 or Tesla for significantly less than the ~$600 advertised and avoid all the hassle, so why would I even consider a Chevy when I don't "need" the extra size and am very flexible on form factor as long as it can fit 2 adults and a kid?

My shopping list or the base Rivian R2. So knowing how hard it is to separate CarPlay from the system is key. Or even see while you have it, install a small third party screen that would give you CarPlay that sync over Bluetooth. See how cheaply you can do it. Amazon sells a bunch of CarPlay screens for cars that don’t have a unit in the car and for people who don’t want to replace a radio.

Or if you really need it, how easily or more complicated can you put something in. I don't know why the general public would prefer AWD. They are heavier, have a shorter range, take longer to recharge for x miles, and the two wheel drive models will do quite well in most driving conditions that people actually drive. Two wheel drive is also less expensive and less expensive is what many of us are looking for. I'm still waiting for an affordable useful EV option.

The Bolt was an affordable and useful EV. So much so that GM said they will be bringing it back (hopefully soon).

I for one do not miss car play. The GM / Google system is more than good enough for me. I just need my music and map apps. Don't need Carplay/Android Auto for that
@JohnFromArlingtron4 ай бұрын
After 3 years you'll have to buy a data plan for music. 8 years free for maps though
@shethjones44944 ай бұрын
@@JohnFromArlingtron for anyone leasing that is a non issue. And all carmakers are going to recurring revenue streams of one kind or another. This is not unique to GM. ANd beyond all that the main point that people who have never set foot in this car are not grasping is that you cannot use this car with phone projection- you need the screen for almost everything short of adjusting the HVAC. You cannot do that from carplay, period. The entire experience of the car would be compromised if you had to jump back and forth between projection and the native system.

I have the Chevy Bolt EUV and it does have CarPlay. I’d have to say I’d like the Bolt a lot less if it didn’t have CarPlay. As much as I’d like to see more content with the Blazer EV, if it’s your daily, I’d skip it.

I'd say go with the blazer EV. If it's one for the masses, then your long term opinion on it will be super important I think! Then your legitimate opinion after spending a longer amount of time without carplay would carry that much more weight as well. I doubt GM will ever go back on getting rid of it so that they can gather all of the driving data that they want. Who knows, maybe them making this switch and many others doing the same will prompt Apple and Google to both find ways to offer an integration of each that allows both parties to acquire the user data lol. And we all will keep living our existences as living, breathing, data piles.
@shethjones44944 ай бұрын
gm definitely wont be the last to do this. Others are just letting them take the hits as the pioneers- Tesla has proven you can have success without carplay. Whenever this is brought up the apple fans (many of whom are tesla fans) say oh thats different because its tesla and they have great software so you can live without apple in their cars.

Whoever made the dummy move to not have CarPlay/Android should be quaking in their boots if not already fired. GM often does silly things like this, like putting door switches on the console in a variety models and eliminating roll down rear windows in the 80’s on their horrible sedans and ultimately have to fix these decisions but not until the negative reaction and loss of sales. I can almost guarantee some enterprising person is working on some kind of hack dongle to allow CarPlay but until then, you’ll continue to hear criticism of this decision.

@@shethjones4494 Totally different demographic. People aren’t cross shopping Tesla versus Chevy. Chevy is a more mainstream car and you expect certain features that you’ve become accustomed to in a Chevy. CarPlay, after being standard in even the most basic Chevrolet for years, now is one of them. Personally, despite being an EV fan, I would never buy a Tesla, with lack of CarPlay being one of many reasons, along with exterior and interior design and build quality.

First I want to say that I generally like your videos and think you do great reviews. I say this because I am going to be a bit critical. I think you were a little disingenuous when you said that this is the first EV to reach price parity with an ICE car. Sure if you are only talking about cars that are available in both EV and ICE, that may be technically true. But Tesla Model Y is less expensive than the Blazer, has more interior capacity (especially if you include the frunk), and has a longer range in every comparable model. So clearly if the blazer (which is more expensive than the model Y) is cheaper than a gasoline equivalent, than the model Y has been for some time. And that is just one example, what about the Bolt, for a time it was about the cheapest car you could buy, and there are others, the Equinox, as you mentioned.

“The Chevrolet Equinox EV is easier to park than the Blazer EV?” Mate, not on your life. The Equinox is barely two inches shorter than this thing. They are both in the midsize SUV category, same as a Subaru Outback or gas-only Chevrolet Blazer.

But the Equinox is more narrower which does help with parking.

There is more to parking than just length, the equinox is narrower and has a much shorter wheelbase which allows it to turn tighter. Parallel parking is easier in the equinox.

The lack of CarPlay/Android Auto in itself is not the real problem. The problem, as I see it, is the only reason they switched to this Google OS is to take advantage of what Google does best…collect data. GM sees that as a huge revenue stream and you can bet they are collecting a bunch of data. Along those lines, I think it is time that car reviewers start asking manufacturers what data is being collected and what is being done with it. And that question should be asked for each individual model.
@WiiSmHr4 ай бұрын
I don't see the same when it comes to AA/CP. I think AA/AC is capable of data collection when in use. The difference being the level of data collection. I agree with the comments on as car reviewer to ask such questions. But that is whole new topic to research and translate for all reviewers that go there. The world keeps getting more complex everyday.

I don't understand this idea that GM is doing something amazing by offering a gas Blazer and an EV Blazer. The only thing that they share is a name, so why is that an accomplishment? They could've just as easily called it something else and nobody would bat an eye.
@AdamCoffmanMusic4 ай бұрын
It’s mainly because they’re the only maker who are using a bottom-up EV platform to still deliberately design cars that feel like their most popular models, so they can target the same customer base. Like the Ioniq 5 and 6 don’t *feel* like a Tucson and Sonata, though they fit the same categories. The F-150 lightning feels like an F-150 but wasn’t really designed ground up as an EV. The Mach-E is its own thing entirely. But the Equinox and Blazer EV feel like they are just Electric equivalents of their gas counterparts, while also being designed purely as EVs. Sure, they could call them something different, but the entire philosophy behind them is to say “hey you like this car? We have it but electric.” And unlike other makers, they’re not doing that by simply taking the gas vehicle but adding a battery and electric motor. The Lyriq is probably the one real exception to this from GMs EV lineup, where it does really have a direct connection to the gas lineup.
