I am with you on the engine. You slap a BMW B58 engine in the Acadia Denali or the Enclave and it's a true luxury SUV that competes with anything. That 4 cylinder sounds terrible and it kills all 3 versions of this (Traverse, Acadia, Enclave). GM needs a 4 cylinder hybrid or a better 6 cylinder for at least the Acadia and Enclave, if not all 3.

4 cylinders can be fine like the 2.0T in Germans or the 2.5T in Koreans. Even Hondas 2.0T is okay. But GMs 2.5T and Toyota/Lexus 2.4T are a no go. Really unrefined although quite powerful. Really all these cars need to copy the 2.0T hybrid engine from the new Lincoln Nautilus. About 300 ho/torque, 0-60 in under 7 seconds, 30mpg combined, and a 20 gallon tank means it's powerful enough and the range is amazing. Toyota 2.5l hybrid is okay but a bit gutless IMO for a nearly 5000lb car. Especially if the battery is low and it's mostly the engine tryna pull a full passenger load.

I truly hope GM hears all of the complaints and reads all of the comments. I know they could do a few tweaks and fix it. I have a 2025 Enclave loaner car while our truck is in for warranty work. The engine sound is horrific.. I daily a 2023 Volvo with the 2.0t. Zero issues with the sound of it. I’ve never had an issue with the sound of a turbo 4 until this SUV.

Just imagine how loud it would get when pulling a medium sized trailer (3000-3500) lbs I think the turbo charged 4 cylinders are fine in vehicles like the edge, Santa Fe but there’s a reason why Hyundai/Kia, Nissan, Dodge and Honda are sticking with the V6 for now in this vehicle class.

GM/Chevrolet long time reliability is terrible. Our Equinox has just over 100K miles on it. I have to add a couple of quarts of oil before I get to the oil change. Not acceptable. This is the second Chevy I've owned with problems coming in at 100k. Chevy doesn't do well with long term reliability. I want to like the traverse, but it's a Chevy and I can't get past that.

Assuming the repair costs of a Traverse (21mpg) and Grand Highlander (34mpg) were identical over the first 150K miles (we all know that is improbable), the fuel cost difference would be staggering. Per AAA today, in KS at $2.68/gallon - Traverse $19,143; Highlander $11,824. If you live in CA at $4.36/gallon - Traverse $31,143; Grand Highlander $19,235. Love your reviews, Alex! When you review a "family" vehicle I might suggest two things: 1.) a quick view/showing of the cargo area with all the seats folded down would be appreciated and, 2.) compare fuel costs in actual dollars. I suspect most people watching your channel regularly understand the difference but the casual shopper searching YT reviews before making a purchase probably does not. Eg. At $3.00/gallon the Traverse would cost $8,194 more in fuel costs and at $6.00/gallon a Traverse would cost a whopping $16,385 *more* than a Grand Highlander over their first $150K miles. Just for gas...

I have had the Z71 since October 8. It's a great SUV for the price. I like the room and the off roadability of the Z71. I have no problems with the engine. It has plenty of power and it's a nice cruiser. I have gotten a high of 28.1 mpg on the highway. My highway mileage has averaged 27.5. City mileage is 21.8. Good mileage for a vehicle this size. One other thing. I moved a full sized desk from my office to my house with room to spare. This desk would not fit in my 2018 Ford Explorer. Finally, my thought is GM will fine tune this engine and power train making it smoother and quieter. This is the first iteration. I think we may see different interior colors and trim pieces.

That was a surprise because I drive a '23 Ram with the v6 and a Town and Country with the v6 and both vehicles were quieter than the Grand Cherokee L. Overall, I was very impressed with the Traverse.

I absolutely hate how in every 3 row vehicle INCLUDING MINIVANS, you can only get a bench seat in the middle row in the base models. Why do automakers think that only poor people need the 8th seat and wealthier people do not. If anything it's the other way around. Does it really save that much money to not have bench seats and captains chairs trim locked? I refused to buy a vehicle with second row captains chairs, it's bad enough you can't get benches in the front anymore due to regulations

If your main goal is to save on gas when buying an SUV, this is definitely not the one for you. It presents no difference in gas efficiency compared to the previous V6 of competition. What GM did is to make up with the aesthetics inside and outside for you to forget about everything else that matters most these days.

I was wondering if it would be possible to include fuel tank capability and recommend or preferred octane fuel in your reviews For example: The 2024 Z71 2.5l Turbo has a 93 octane rating with a 21.7 gal fuel tank. Our real world mpg is City/Hwy/Combine. The cost per fill up in the state of California would be (21.7*$4.747) $103 Just food for thought.

I've sat in the new Pilot (OK, but not great) and the Grand Highlander (nope) and I'm still looking for something that as or more comfortable than what I'm currently driving (1st gen Pilot). I know I can go really big (F150, etc.), but going really big has it's drawbacks as well. One thing that I'm hoping GM figures out soon is how to make a seat that doesn't feel like poured concrete.

Thank you for being the only review I've watched to mention that about the AWD system... Outside of body on frame and off-roady types with locking diffs, you'd expect a vehicle in this class and amongst its competition to have that "slip and grip" type system that's almost synonymous with modern day crossover type SUVs. Living in an area with unpredictable weather systems, it's nice driving a vehicle that controls the AWD system as just that, AWD. I'm looking to get into a 3 row family mover from a Subaru Forester and this might just be a deal breaker.

Yeah that engine noise is not what you think of when you see a big SUV - especially one that has the sharp, squared off design of this one. The Ford Bronco offers multiple engines, a 4 and a 6. The fact that you’re stuck with only the loud 4cyl in the Traverse may be a deal breaker for some, especially when there are so many options in this segment. If the EPA wants us to be more efficient, I say bring in more European models for people to use (like GM’s Vauxhall MPV’s) and leave a proper big, low stressed V8 engine for these big SUV’s. Obviously it’s a pipe dream… but a guy can dream!

Turbo in the real world does well if you don't need/use the turbo power very often. The more the turbo power is used, the more fuel it uses and it doesn't take much to equal or even exceed the fuel consumption of a larger engine.

I know you people always wanna argue this, but emissions are not necessarily tied to MPG so wrap your head around that and understand it’s about emissions now

Best reviews in the biz. At 150k miles I would guess this is 2-3X more expensive to maintain (repair) than any Toyonda competitor.
@ALMX5DP
@ALMX5DP 4 күн бұрын
Is that based on anything of substance? And even if somehow that were accurate, 2-3x of only a little amount is still probably only a little bit of money so probably not a big deal either way.

Reputation (granted, subjective) and historic resale value (objective). To clarify, I should have said repair, not maintenance.

The Buick Enclave, this and its sister models are in need of a hybrid version or at the very least a diesel version with fuel economy and torque to tow. The horrid 4 turbo is an anemic gas guzzler.

Design 10/10! Engine 0.5/10! GM really had an opportunity here, hopefully next year the higher trims get adequate HP! Shocked you even said it was the “Best Large SUV”…??? No way.

Best large family suv is still a suburban. Given the bigger and heavier and v8 Tahoe gets 20 mpg, if this had a v8 it's reasonable that it would be within 1mpg of this 4 banger

LT accounts for only 10% of expected sales. The top trims account for the majority of models sold to non-fleet buyers. Also, we don’t always have the choice of which trim we’re testing.

GM did a great job with the styling, probably one of the better generational transformations of late..but can't help but notice another ballooning msrp for a car that was pretty cheap with a less complicated drivetrain for americans....maybe being ugly is better for consumer's wallets..

Why GM doesn't put their turbo V6 3.0L engine in the top trim of Traverse? This I4 sounds terrible and doesn't seem to generate sufficient power although the numbers look good on paper
@markmiller3279
@markmiller3279 2 күн бұрын
Doubt there is room for it. Once a company commits to strictly fours for a model, they can shrink the engine bay and reduce the overall length. A V-6 is a much wider engine (which mounted transversely means longer front to back).

Agreed. The Koreans offer a lot of content and nicer interiors for less money. The exception would be if I had a really large family and liked to go on road trips (my childhood vacations, basically). Then the extra space would be highly valuable.

It's peppy and damn quick. It's also an overbuilt engine block. Or at least the 2.7l in the pickup trucks are and this is a derivation of the engine. Only downside is it sounds bad and you hear it quite a bit when driving on adaptive cruise control and the car tries to accelerate. But it's quick 0-60 in 6.5 seconds or so

Impressive GM. Unfortunately GM has never mastered the 4 cylinder engine unlike Ford, Toyota or (gold standard) Honda. A shame since their V6 and V8s have been largely good. And it’s clearly built to a price point so its junk after 5 years instead of the 10 years you get from the Japanese.

Won't break the bank; but starts at $41k? Sorry, but to more than half of America, that is a lot of money. Auto manufactures are putting out nice stuff. That said, they are so out of touch with the reality of many Americans inability to actually afford these vehicles. Our family previously owned a Traverse. It was an excellently thought out vehicle that had a lot of great family minded features. The biggest drawback about it; it was made by GM.
