HAPPY NEW YEAR TIDY UPPERS!
Do you need to declutter? Do you need to organize? Do you need to do both? I sure did! This video is my first in my January decluttering and organizing series! This week I tackle all of my home decor and get it decluttered! I really wanted to start my year off right and take care of my biggest problem first and that is definitely keeping too much decor! Hello there, friends! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are excited about 2025! I really enjoyed the holidays this year, and I am excited about the year to come! This video is the first in my January declutter and organize series! I have been so excited to get started! I have a few areas and categories that seem to trip me up when it comes to staying clutter free! Home decor is one of them!! Today in this video, I do some SERIOUS home decor decluttering!!! This maybe out of your comfort zone for DIY BUT , Speaking of your pantry ... have you considered adding removable wood shelfs between the two side units? IDK if your hubby is handy but Lowes & Home depot will cut wood to speck. may 4 -2" x 1" by depth for, pieces to hold the shelf . You could screw or nail them into those side units . then the shelf can sit on them or be nailed or screwed into the 2x1 's hmmm ORRRR get the pins for bookcases , drill the appropriate size hole in the side units & VOILA shelf holder that's moveable & can still get the boards cut to size .🤔 Down the rabbit hole I go :(

Good for you in allowing empty spaces. That was something I struggled with as well. I didn't know it was okay to have cabinets that weren't full. To leave a wall empty. It does take a minute to get used to the newly empty spaces but then it feels good. =)

Hi Gwen! I am so glad I am not the only one that struggles with leaving something empty! I really have gotten better with leaving drawers or parts of cabinets empty, but it’s still hard to leave a little space empty that I think I could decorate! I am definitely a work in progress! If I had noticed it right away, I would’ve taken the video down and reposted it at the regular time, but when I saw it, it had already been going over an hour and had quite a few views and several comments. If it hadn’t had any comments, I still probably would’ve done it, but I’m not gonna delete anybody’s comment who took the time to leave one. So we’re just rolling with an early video today! 😂

Hey De De! You sure were ruthless in your decor decluttering! When I heard you say you were decluttering all the stuff in that corner next to the hot water heater and I saw that Santa...I was like NOOOOOO! NOT THE SANTA! But santa is going to a new home to be used. Also there was what looked like a wood bowl...like an oval shaped dark wood bowl I thought NOOOOO! Then I saw you had a candle (several wicks) that was in the same kind of bowl. Now I want to get a candle in a cool container. Usually my candle containers are boring and they get chucked once the candle burns down. You have encouraged me to be ruthless when I get back home in Feb! Well....after company for the super bowl party splits. Loved the declutter of wine corks. I too wrote stuff on special occasion wine corks. That pocketbook cork holder was adorable! I use a vintage blue canning jar. I'm gonna remember to purge my collection too. And then there are the jars of sea shells we collected from Sanibel over the years. We no longer do the 'Sanibel Stoop'. It's murder on the back now! Love your channel!❤

How lovely that you are getting to spend some extended time away! My husband and I are huge football fans, but we really just watch the game at home by ourselves. @MyBigTidyUp Yep. We're leaving Sunday morning trying to beat whatever the weather has in store. We'll be in GA until Wed morning then we head to Sanibel. US old foggies need extended breaks when traveling in a van!🤣 The other night I decided to ruthlessly declutter the lower cabinets in the bathroom. I pulled out a container that had 3...that right. .THREE curling irons in it. And that doesn't include the one I use! I was in the right decluttering mindset and put all 3 in the donate box! I also found $100 that was being saved for something! Yeah me!!! I'll be watching your videos like normal in Fla!😘

Monday mornin' with My Big Tidy up , YESSS!!!! I so need a break to just think what my house needs & inspiration . I think I can get my towel holder up in the linen closet this week. & By golly I know you are going to get that décor in check ! I'm decluttering my fabric scraps 🤣 by making them into quilt blocks . Made a big dent this morning 💪. I almost put the Christmas tree away HAHAHA it's next to the box & will take less than a minute . So why has it sat there all weekend ??🤨 Because I needed my DeDe time to remind me just do it LOL This is a perfect Monday morning cold icky day video to enjoy inside with my coffee. I need to actually schedule a day for my home chores . IDK why since I stopped all my driving at random times I actually have been getting less house care done 🤷‍♀️. thank you for the inspiration . Taking another spin to declutter the same spaces you have hit before is so rewarding. I feel like your new vision for simplified decor is really coming to fruition. 2025 is my year to declutter more with a view to downsizing within our home to allow more time for my husband and me to travel and enjoy life together while we are still able. I was feeling sad for you to give up that Tiffany style lamp, but then remembered I just donated two large, lovely brass and crystal lamps myself! Hello Joy! I really have been bit by the Declutter bug! I am really going through this home with a fine tooth comb! I think you hit the nail on the head when you said downsizing to allow more time for you and your husband to travel and enjoy life together while you are still able! That has become our goal as well! It has become very obvious that we are not as young as we used to be, nor do we move as fast. We are simplifying the things around us to allow for more travel and relaxation around our home. Hi DeDe! The decluttering bug has bitten me too and I’m on a roll. Things I’ve kept for too long are leaving the building! I’ve decluttered our office and I feel lighter already! I just love how open spaces make me feel “lighter.” I used to fill up every single space and every single drawer and I’m realizing that all the “stuff” is clogging up my brain too! I’m feeling totally overstimulated by too much stuff. And what’s really sad is I’ve forgotten about alot of these items. If I can’t remember what I have then I have too much. Hi Jennifer! Oh my goodness you and I seem to have the same brain! It really is so freeing to declutter! I know that some folks don’t understand it, but once you get started, you just want to continue on because you do feel so much lighter! When my home is cluttered and I feel like I’m having to navigate around too much stuff or I’m going to knock something off, it does affect my mental health, no doubt! Nappy Friday ,friend.....just happened to see the Notification and so I'm here , this looks like it will be fun and interesting!! You had me laughing already ......" I'm not gonna do it...who am I kidding.....??!" 😁😄..( about the spray paint ). I actually think that the gold paint will be a good idea for the one piece you had painted silver . I totally agree with what you said about making small changes here and there and how they add up. I was so excited at the prospect of that white bookcase / shelf from your decor closet possibly fitting in your pantry and totally felt your slight upset about it being a little bit too big. But at least you are looking at other options. I had the fleeting thought that maybe the unit you have your television on in your bedroom maybe fitting in the pantry. I know it's a bit fancy but thought maybe it would be narrow enough to fit in that space while still giving you some decent storage. Just a thought. At any rate, thanks for the ongoing inspiration. You were not the only one surprised!! 🙋🏻‍♀️ evidently when I scheduled it last night, little Miss tidy up, hit the 5 AM button instead of the 5 PM button!! 🤣 By the time I noticed it had already been going an hour, and I had a few comments so I didn’t feel like I could take it down and repost it at 5 PM! So needless to say, we’re doing the early bird thing today! 😂😂 Anyway I am so grateful to hear that after all of my declutter’s, I am still able to help you feel inspired to continue to check your own spaces! @@MyBigTidyUp I wasn't sure exactly how uploading your clips to KZbin worked. It's pretty cool that you can set a time in advance. I am part early bird, part night owl (I usually fall asleep around 1 am and wake up naturally between 5 and 6 am). Is there a particular reason why you chose 5 pm on Fridays? I admit it was nice to view the video early. When your video comes up on Fridays, it is usually rush hour / dinner time here in Ohio.

Hello again, Matt! No, I can’t say there was a real particular reason I picked the 5 PM time! I knew that it might kick off people‘s weekends. When I started tube, they always said it doesn’t matter when you post, your tribe will find you, just be consistent. They said it doesn’t matter when you post but try to post at the same time so people get used to it. I do remember looking, and I suspected that people that would watch my videos would be in my particular age bracket so I tried to pick a time that people our age would be watching and early evening was a popular time according to KZbin for our age demographics. but who knows if that’s true or not! 🤣

I am glad that people continue to find your channel and gain such benefit from your hard work. I don't know if you've ever done one of these but it would be interesting to get a behind the scene peek at what it takes to create and post a video on YT. We only get to see the final version and I am sure much more goes into it than what most people know about. Just a thought. Have you thought about building or having a handyman build in the shelves in the pantry for you? That way you could customize it to fit exactly. Most of my closets were done that way years ago. Looking forward to your decluttering series!

I have been slowly decluttering things I’m not using now, I have a granddaughter getting married soon and they have just bought there first home so some of my unused things she wants so I’m happy to give them to her.
