We bought the 2022 Escape Hybrid Titanium. Currently on the 3rd 12v battery. It is an H4 and is undersized. Battery will run down just setting in the driveway. Constantly having it in the shop for warranty work. Most of the control modules have been replaced along with the side warning sensors. When it is working it is a really nice car but would have liked more ground clearance for an AWD. Average 37.2 mpg and have driven the car near 70 mph in electric mode on a slight down grade. I have owned FORDs for over 50 years and none have spent as much time in the shop as this one.

I’m really sorry to hear that you’ve had those issues with it, but thanks for sharing that here for my own understanding and so other potential buyers can hopefully also see your comment!

When the Escape first came out it had a naturally aspirated 2.3L 4cyl , which way back when was Ford’s Bulletproof engine. It was the same engine that powered the Ford Ranger. A friend of mine bought one when it had about 150K miles on it. I think he said that he bought it for $500. He now has almost 400K miles on the clock and is burning a quart of oil every 3K miles. He is not kind to it, but it won’t die. He’s retired it to going to his favorite fishing spots on roads that are service roads at best. Ford is having problems with the Ecoboost engine on the Escape. For the price point I’d buy a Mazda instead.

That’s a cool story Doc! It’s unfortunate so many modern vehicles seem to more temperamental and less robust than they use to be.

Problems only on the 1.5l 3 cylinder. Mazda is better handling but is small inside. The ford now has port and GDI injection. There are voice controls so you don't have to bitch about the screen. Mazda is not a touch screen.

Every brand new car will look good and drive smooth. The real question is how that car will perform in 5 or 10 years? For example buying Toyota's product I have a confidence that their vehicles will last without major mechanical problems for many years. I can't say the same about Ford. 😊

Another good review. This would be a perfect vehicle if it didn't come with that infotaintment screen that is, in my opinion, an eyesore. I much prefer screens built in and not portruding. I hate to have to go through menus to find basic controls. Pricewise, the Ford Escape Platinum seems to be pricey as doesn't stand out from the competition. The motor is indeed powerful so it perhaps wouldn't need a turbo. Two hundred and fifty ponies is plenty for a naturally aspirated engine. The turbo in this case seems to be an overkill in my opinion. It's a good enough crossover competing with several somewhat better models.

Is the battery the undersized 470 amp, or the far better 760 amp? Similar to the comment below, my 2023 hybrid platinum Escape kept going into sleep mode due to low 12 amp battery.

I think it’s definitely good competition. This trim level isn’t cheap and it does feel pretty nice to reflect that. The turbo 2.0 has felt great each time I’ve driven it, although I don’t follow the forums on these platforms to know how they hold up. The AWD system looks very mechanical and I’d expect it to do pretty well, but I haven’t tested it in winter like I have a few other brands. But I don’t like that the storage is only 65 cubic feet in the non hybrids. That’s almost 10 fewer cubes than the Forester. I’m definitely glad we went Subaru, it’s quite a bit cheaper than this and doesn’t even have 2k miles yet in over 4 months. So no need to pay for features we don’t use. For what we use it for that’s the right car for us, oh and being a top safety pick is also a high value attribute because I’m overly sensitive to driving safe vehicles with everything I’ve seen and patients I’ve worked with. 😅

@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 But the money goes to support the Japanese economy with that vehicle because that's where the headquarters is located. With Ford, the company is based in the USA therefore you would be helping the American economy, not Japan's(.

The 4th gen sales dropped because this one is a piece of junk. Look up the 2023+ 1.5L overheating problem. That happened to my 2023 Escape, and I dumped it after only 8 months of ownership. Half of that time it sat in the Ford garage waiting for a new cylinder head.

I do take advantage of the Adaptive Cruise and Speed Recognition Technology. I traded in A 21 Mustang with 315 Horsepower and actually find the Escape More Fun to drive!!

Just buy a CX-5 or CX-50 hybrid, Forester or RAV4. All those cars are better in most ways with different focuses depending on your needs. Mazda is luxury, Subaru is rugged and RAV4 is practical. The Escape is worse than all of them for essentially the same price.
