This trend of charging subscriptions for features is actually so depressing. You’re already paying $60-$80k for a car but you don’t own the technology and features that you paid for? $1k a year to use super cruise is just a blatant money grab and is a quick way to turn buyers off from the brand. Please use your platform and voice to let manufacturers know this isn’t what people want.
@brownhairydog64722 ай бұрын
Cars are basically mobile tech devices now. And no one complains about this model for phones. I agree for stuff like seat heating where the equipment is already there but for software stuff which will need continuous updates a sub model makes sense.
@TCxfan2 ай бұрын
@@brownhairydog6472 Hmm, I get your point with phones but that tech is usually $1k or less to purchase and at most a couple hundred a month to use the full extent of the device and all features it comes with. BMW has already started charging for features like heated seats and heated steering wheels and I just worry this trend will continue to get more and more invasive and before you know it were paying thousands of dollars a year to use basic functions like remote start or lumbar support, automatic high beams or rain sensing wiper blades etc. Where do we draw the line? Would you pay monthly for air conditioning? Pay monthly for blind spot monitoring? Pay monthly to still use a backup camera or parking sensors? I just don't agree with being forced to pay to use a feature that's already installed and functional when I purchased the vehicle and paid the premium for a higher trim level. ( as sounds like you agree with too) It comes down to having the OPTION to pay for an upgraded tech feature at a future time. A new version of automated cruise control was released? Great. Let me CHOOSE to pay for an upgraded version, not simply remove the feature all together if I don't pay up every 30 days. These tech features will not be updated and improved monthly, but more likely, once or twice a year and yet I still pay each month even if nothing was changed or improved. Anyway, rant over. Ill just keep buying used cars I can afford in cash and not worry about all this nickel and dime nonsense.
@brownhairydog64722 ай бұрын
@@TCxfan haha I won't be buying new either..the sub model is one thing, but I don't like all the mandatory safety nannies now fitted, half of which most seem to turn off every drive. The broader issue for legacy auto makers is how they will survive with Chinese cars set to dominate.
@moogle682 ай бұрын
@@brownhairydog6472 NOOOOOO, it *DOES NOT* "make sense", because you are fundamentally misunderstanding the mobile phone plan. You buy a phone outright, which comes with software on it that is regularly updated because that software company that made your OS needs to develop it's software, as well as address security flaws as they are discovered, continuously to stay competitive anyways, so why not include updates for free to people that have already invested buy buying a product? The monthly subscription you are paying on your mobile phone is for DATA, because data transmission is a very costly technology, and the amount of data you are using determines how much you have to pay on a monthly basis. What Ford is doing is akin to Android suddenly charging you a monthly subscription fee for Android updates, because the Blue Cruise software doesn't need data to function, just a GPS connection, and Ford is going to be constantly developing Blue Cruise anyways in order to make it competitive with Chevy's Super Cruise, and Tesla's [whatever their autonomous Driving tech is called]. In order to have GPS guidance, you do need to transmit data, but most vehicles (and I'm assuming Ford's as well) with built in GPS guidance already come with a monthly fee to cover that data transmission, so assuming this subscription to Blue Cruise is separate from the monthly fee for GPS data, the Blue Cruise subscription will simply be a monthly fee for access something you already have. Besides, it's always good to be up to date, but what if you're fine with having a slightly outdated version of Blue Cruise? The updates to the tech from here on out are likely going to be only minor changes, and the addition of newly built roads, but when standalone GPS devices were popular, many of them had maps that were out of date, and yet they were still quite useful, so at the very least, Ford should allow you to still use your Blue Cruise even if you don't want to pay a monthly/annual fee, because the Blue Cruise software was already factored into the sale price, and even if it becomes out of date, it is still extremely useful.

@@coastaku1954 I wouldnt say that specifically, I've driven huge (for me a 5'10 femboi) but I feel like I can see pretty well. I drove a k20 and an f250 and they didn't feel like I had my view obstructed. This has a necessary screen that covers a portion of your view and not to mention the center console adding a blindspot. This is more a safety concern but not really a flaw. You can get around it by lifting ur seat higher but short queens and kings will kill ppl with this thing lol

Hate all the screens!!!!!!!!! The one main screen was more than enough! And why get rid of simple things like like lights. And stop with all the power stuff!

@thestraightpipes can you guys do a test that shows if cars will turn off the lights when the car is locked/turned off? I know Subaru does this but if you can leave lights permanently on then there is zero chance they’ll be off the next time it’s night. People will argue Auto headlights work really well but the auto headlights can’t read the sign that says “turn your headlights on” as you drive through a windy road. These are real signs out here in New England. And what’s safer than touching the screen multiple times to turn on your lights for safety?? Whatever I can’t afford it anyway. Let the rich people crash or not use their headlights

Why are you touching the headlight button so many times again , wouldn’t it be turn it on and leave it alone 😂

@@cormaro13 I only know of one car brand that when you turn the lights to “on” permanently they turn off when the car turns off and that’s Subaru. Does Ford also do this now? And is it an option in the infotainment to leave them permanently on like it would be with a physical switch? If so then I totally agree, just leave them on all the time. Another thing that makes this silly is I imagine the high beams still have a stalk so you can flash those. So ford (and GM) didn’t save any real estate by eliminating hardware, they just reduced the functions of the existing hardware.

They got me with the exterior and lost me with the interior. Reminds me of a Peugeot and Citroen Mixture (in the worst possible way).

That thing is hideous. Buy the 2024 while you can.

I liked the Limited with the Stealth performance package, but that's gone now. The Tremor looks fantastic though.

United has had those headrest infotainment clips on their aircraft for a few years now.

Spent more time on the video game than the engine and drivetrain! Good on you for knowing what a dipstick is

It does look strangely GM-ish from the exterior. Touch capacitive buttons still aren't winning me over and never will though.

Strangely GM like Ford stole the early design studies and copied.

If you have physical buttons they couldn't charge you subscription fees.
