Having just participated on the I-90 cross -country race on the Out of Spec network, I’m sure you noticed that almost halfway across the country, there are only V2 Tesla Superchargers available along that rote. As V2’s, an Ioniq 5 will not be able to charge at any of those sites, which is a major restriction. Luckily, that same route seems to be equipped with all brand new EA charging units, so a Hyundai driver won’t even need to worry about charging at Superchargers.

The Tesla Superchargers are another arrow in my quiver but us Ioniq and Android folks usually take the road less traveled. I'm glad though because I travel a lot in states with low EV adoption rates and hence few chargers. In fact, I met a guy who works at Electrify America in Winston-Salem Cars and Coffee on Nov9th and he said Electrify America's priority is putting chargers in areas with high EV adoption rates. Makes sense.

I agree that this is good news overall although I will be avoiding them when possible due to the expected higher cost and I will have to get an adapter. That said, my parents live in No Man's Land when it comes to Fast Chargers so having more options is always a good thing. They are also growing more each day, but it can be frustrating when the one Fast Charging Station you were counting on is crowded due to only one station working and the next station is 30 miles out of the way. More options is always better when it comes to Fast Charging. I am also a fellow Android owner who's had to adapt to coming early in the morning the following day 15 miles in the opposite direction just to get enough juice to get back to my area where Fast Chargers are a plenty. My parents think I'm crazy to have to go through all that trouble even though I tell them that I only need to do this occasionally when visiting and eventually more Fast Charging stations will be built where this won't be as big of a problem.

@lanceareadbhar Totally agree. Tesla Superchargers are not that expensive though. Like 45 cents a kwh whilst some CCS are like 55 cents a kwh. My husband has an R1T so he charges at Tesla superchargers sometimes. Yes, it's crazy difficult to charge sometimes. I cheat and drive my Chevy Impala in West Virginia because it's all such a pain.

It's no big deal Supercharging, even with my 2024 model. I've looked into speeds at Magic Docks, and an Ioniq 5 pulls 97 kW when first plugged in, but… it's still pulling that when it hits 80%! That charging curve is unbeatable. You'll still charge faster than a Tesla, which drops to 50 kW at 80%. You're right about my attitude toward Tesla, and especially First Lady E'lania. At this point I will likely only use a Supercharger in an emergency. I fact, I now wish we'd emulated what Europe did to standardize EV plugs, and opted for CCS instead. The J3400 decision will come around to bite us in the arse, mark my words.

It’s good for consumers to have options and providers to have competition. Thankfully there is nowhere I regularly go that I’m likely to need to use a Supercharger. However for EV adoption to accelerate we need universal charger access, even if requires an adapter. The current approach is a mess. Rivian said they would open their DCFC network in 2024. Well 2025 isn’t that far off.

My 2023 Ioniq 5 Limited consistently reaches 250 kW and sometimes even more on the Electrify America stations near me, and has for as long as I have owned it. So basically the perks of getting a IONIQ 5 is gone with the NACS plug and need a CCS adapter to enjoy that 18-20 minutes of charging. Hyundai is switching to a lower quality design because "Tesla's" has so many more charging locations compared to others. Which I honestly DO like the NACS plug design and that its lighter and easier to use, the fact that its going to take 30 minutes to go to 80% is a big disappointment. This was a key feature as to why I had purchased a 2022 IONIQ 5 to begin with.

Tesla didnt really drop the ball. Even though they charge slower they are WAY mrke consistent because of the supercharger network. I know 7 Model Y owners and none of them have ever had any sort of issue with charging. Ioniq 5 or literally any other EV owners? Every single one have ahd some kind of issue or another. Tesla didnt really drop the ball at all. Out of Spec is doing a 3000 mile range test between a dozen different EV sedans. Model 3 RWD Long Range seems to be beating the Ioniq 6 RWD Long Range even though both have similar EPA and range figures and the Ioniq 6 is suppose to charge way faster. Its literally like bragging about having a faster car when its gonna break down A LOT more often. You aint winning then. Either way the Cybertruck is now 800v so maybe they will push V4 with 800v chargers soon. Model Y Jupiter is suppose to have the 48v and 800v tech from the cybertruck but that is to be seen. Also rumors say a 95kwh battery on the Jupiter model Y. Currently i do belive the Ioniq 5 is better and thats what I would choose since it now has access to the supercahrger. Now you can actually have one as a single car and not have to worry too much about cross country emergency road trips. But the model Y refresh around the corner might end up being better if rumors prevail. Also the Ioniq 5 is priced too high. Shocked they didnt drop the price a little on the top trims.

@ayushmalpeddi279311 күн бұрын
@@TheIoniqGuy I'm eager to see the results. Definitely pretty close but it can be anyone's 2nd and 3rd place position. I doubt the Taycan will lose but I'm curious if the Tesla 3 or Ioniq 6 ends up ahead. Either way you slice it, it's gonna be close and it goes to show how a reliable and slower network can be equally as good as a less reliable but faster charging network. If other stations were as reliable as superchargers they would 100% be better all around. Tesla is taking too long with the V4 800v stations
@junehanzawa516511 күн бұрын
Please note that the the Model Y that Branden Flasch has is the one with the experimental first 4680 batteries that led to a horrendous charging curve. That horrendous charging does not represent the normal charging time of a typical Model Y. Please don't use that one for a comparison. You'd only be fooling your audience. The typical Model Y does indeed charge 10 to 80% in about 25 to 27 minutes. That said, the 135kW for the 2025 Ioniq 5 is clearly welcome and clearly better than the current top speed on 400V chargers of 97kW max.
@sprockkets11 күн бұрын
Either they improved the curve or didn't, because even the cyberturd charges slow, even after updates
@junehanzawa516511 күн бұрын
@sprockkets The Model Y doesn't use 4680's, so the curve is back to normal. They only used them on the Y for that very short experimental period, and only on the standard range Model Y, not any other trim. That was a mistake. The Cybertruck can charge at 250kW to 25%, but it's limited to that because of their current 400V chargers. Their V4 stalls are still connected to 400V charging cabinets. Once they upgrade those, and update the Cybertruck for 800V charging, then it should do over 300kW for a much, much better and longer curve. For the time being, it is indeed disappointing that the Cybertruck is charging at only 400 volts, when it's 800V architecture.

Pretty disappointing the Ioniq 5 charging speed has gone from 210kw on a 2022 -> 135kw on a 2025. I'd imagine there's a good portion of individuals that were excited for the NACS capabilities, that are now uninterested & looking at other vehicles, simply due to this regression in charging speed. One of the main reasons I chose this car in 2022 was the capability to charge to 80% in 20ish minutes or less. Nothing on the market competed with that besides Tesla, if you lived near a supercharger. Genuine shame to see them regressing in an area where they had an edge on the market.
