Considering the Australian pricing hasn't been announced, it's a bit premature saying RIP Atto 3. In my opinion, the base model EV3 vehicle will be at least 60 grand and has the following negatives. No heat pump as standard, the Atto 3 has a heat pump as standard, no opening sun roof,only a partial moon roof where the Atto 3 have the moon/sunroof the whole length of the roof, only a 12.5 fixed infotainment screen compared to the Atto 3s 15.6 inch rotating infotainment screen and no LFP battery. People in Korea already have this vehicle. A number have stated that this is an actual number.
@franklong62692 ай бұрын
@@AlexanderAddams Hmmm, that's an interesting point. The Chinese do have the best EV battery technology in the world, so it is possible. However, I would like to see more real-world tests to confirm what the real charging speeds are. Remember, these are not solid-state batteries, so unless there are technology advances that have not been communicated yet, they shouldn't be very different from other EV batteries.
@Gimlet60512 ай бұрын
@@franklong6269I don't know why your information is limited, but most high-end or performance EVs use NMC batteries, while most Chinese batteries are LFP. When used above a 2C rate, LFP batteries cause durability issues and are heavier than NMC due to lower energy density. The charging speed isn't slow because of the battery itself, but because this car is built with a 400V system, which inherently limits the charging speed.
@franklong62692 ай бұрын
@@Gimlet6051 Hmmm, you clearly don't own an LFP battery-powered car; I do. I own a RWD Tesla Model 3 with LFP batteries, and it charges very quickly. With Tesla Model 3 and Y cars, the LFP batteries charge at 175 max KW/H rate. The NMC versions of the Model Y and 3 charge 250 KW/H rates. So, NMC batteries do charge more quickly, but in the real world, the difference is negligible. Both versions of the battery slow down charging to about the same rates within a few minutes. I understand your point that 800V systems have the potential to charge more quickly, but that may not materialize in the real world. I think you would have more effectively made your point if you had mentioned that the new semi-solid state and solid-state batteries will have the ability to charge far more quickly than current battery chemistries. Just having a higher voltage platform does not guarantee faster charging speeds. I readily admit I am not an expert on the theoretical charging speed differences between 400V and 800V systems, but just having more voltage does not guarantee that any battery will charge faster. We see this in Makita and DeWalt charging tools, which have higher voltages but do not charge faster than 18V Milwaukee tools. The chemistry and design of the batteries in these tools are what affect charging speeds the most. 800V Platforms may indeed have more theoretical potential to charge faster, but that does not translate to real-world charging speeds. BTW, the most advanced battery in mass production in the world is CATL's semi-solid-state battery, and it is an LFP battery. Supposedly it will fully charge in 15 minutes. I don't know what voltage platform produces that rate, but I do guarantee you that this battery will be in high-performance EVs very soon.
