could it be that the charger was limited? because from the start to the end it was only able to deliver a maximum of 199A, usually 400v packs use more A to achieve charging power. if this happens again, could you test it on a charger that can provide more amps?
@CarSceneKoreaАй бұрын
Yes, it is precisely that. It was due to the charger, not the car and I’ve seen plenty of times getting much faster speed than this and also the same way around with other cars. I had much slower charging speed here and there as well. I did not foresee the result would yield such confusion to my viewers. I shall and will find the best and fastest charging speed each platform is capable of for my future reviews. Thanks for sharing!

Travelling speed is crucial, doing 110 kph or 130 kph would cause a huge difference in range. If it's cold outside, it's crucial to use battery conditioning. Hi there, my only problem wtih your real life range test on highway is that in Europe, we have 130km/h speed and not 110km/h so these consumption figures can mislead a little bit us. You managed around 5km/kwh with a speed of around max 110 but what happens if u drive this car on a european highway with a speed of 130km/h. Your range dramaticaly drops to 2-3 km/kwh? Which leads us to a maximum of 250-300 km in reality. :( what are your thoughts on this? By the way, keep up with your great work. Love your channels

Amazing technology and i'm so impressive (as BYD owner on South America, Colombia) of how Kia keep trying to improve the ev cars, unfortunately more of those cars need a HUGE infrastructure to support that kind of charging, and 800V it just blow my mind (as electronic engineer), i estimate that kind of infrastructure takes more than 5 years to arrive to most South America countries, but at that point it will be a nice option to choose a EV instead of petrol car. I’ve done 40K miles in my EV6 GT and it’s been a great car. One thing I hope we see Hyundai and Kia work on is highway efficiency. This is a little below something like a Model Y at higher speeds in terms of miles/kWh. I think one difference I have noticed is the Kia/Hyundai EVs seem to have much higher motor RPM than the Teslas at highway speeds. Maybe if they adjusted the final drive ratios to slow down the motor speed when going 70-80mph it would improve the energy consumption some.
@CarSceneKorea26 күн бұрын
EV3 actually has higher driving efficiency and range on highway than cities!😱
@CFG3926 күн бұрын
@@CarSceneKorea that’s wild. I put 19” wheels on my EV6 GT and it returns about 4mi/kWh in city driving but going above 70mph the efficiency drops very sharply. By 80mph the car only returns upper-2mi/kWh. We also have an Ioniq 6 and while it is very efficient in town, once again on the highway the energy consumption goes up very quickly as speed rises above 70mph. I saw your 100km/h part and it was averaging 6.1km/kWh but when you sped up a little it had dropped to ~5km/kWh. I was hoping the EV3 would hit at least mid-4mi/kWh (7km/kWh) in city.

It would be interesting to get some more charging tests done on this platform. A bit weird that the speed increased at 60% from where it was just over 10%, usually you see the peak speed low in the pack and then it throttles down from about 50% and usually pretty slow by 80% that’s not true of all 400V EVs (Fat etron for example) but is for most.

Thank you so much for all the information. I live in Greece and drive around 22,000 km (13,670 miles) annually, so I'm leaning towards the standard range model. I cover less than 450 km per week. Aside from my Ford Fiesta (LPG) I am currently also using a micro car, charging it with 1.5kw power at home. I feel like the standard range should be enough for my needs. For those who’ve gone with the standard range, do you find it sufficient for similar driving patterns? I would highly appreciate your thoughts on this!

That is approximately 430km per week, so if you can plug the car every couple days, it should be more than enough so long as you don’t do much long distance drives. You prove exactly why EVs are such a hard sell here in the states. You literally can cross your country with 75-80% battery....i cant even get 1/2 the way out of Texas on a full charge. Then there's the issues of finding chargers in "dead zones" through out the massive land scap of TX....i do dig the look of the EV3
@CarSceneKoreaАй бұрын
That indeed is precisely the weakness EVs need to overcome and are doing, I think.

But let's be honest here - how many Americans drive that much on a daily basis that an EV with +300 miles of range wouldn't be able to cover?? And if you drive a lot you would probably be better off with a home charger.

I hate that interior lighting. Kia lover but this is stupidly. And warning when speeding, you have the hud… you always feel how fast you drive. You do not need a warning for it. I almost never need to watch my speedo. I always now exactly in a range of 3kph how fast I drive. Our temperature is the whole year around at 20 degrees. Last week went for work to France. Drove 790km in one go, took me 7h15 with a 5minute break, 135kph on the highway. Happy i did not have to tank with my ceed. (range 815km, arrived with 35km left so more than enough) Paying super expensive at a super charger with an EV… and heaving to stop with an EV. And he is only driving 110 😅 And having to stop after only 280km 😂 No thanks.

The new Elroq 85, the Xpeng G6 and this are the best cars to buy now in terms of suvs which are not the most sustainable cars. The problem is the absolutely dependence on coal Korea continues to peddle and to greenwash to consumers. So basically producing a very very good product in terms of efficiency but defeating the whole purpose in the end. The same for the G6 but China is already the king in green energy transition. The Elroq is a product produced with 90% renewable energy, still many other aspects like all other brands remain. Tesla not even worth talking about it

Even powering them on a grid mix of mostly coal these are still better for the environment including the emissions from producing the vehicle, as proven in numerous studies, see the US EPA's "Electric Vehicle Myths" page for some good information on this.

Teslas are also on 400 V system but can charge at 250kW instead of just 75kW. That’s charging speed is disappointing. Why the big difference? Great content, I never really considered Kia; but this EVs are really nice for me to consider getting one.
@KCEL-i1iАй бұрын
I think it's a charging station issue. Anyone who's actually owned an EV knows that charging stations are generally slower when there are a lot of other cars at the same time. 250kW is only possible in the best conditions, and Tesla's real-world charging speed is 70-90kW.
@hwanju94Ай бұрын
@@ibz.a Most 200kW chargers in korea, their specs are 1000Vdc × 200A, which means that 400V cars can charge at only 80kW at most, limited speed due to insufficient amphere. ev3's Amphere capability is about 300A or somewhat more(I've saw 130kW at best). so if you plug the charger capable of more than 300A, it will charge at over 120kW speed.
@LittleBoobsLoverАй бұрын
@@hwanju94 yeah but this is a new car and it charges like nissan leaf gen 1 from 2012. I think It is the same charging like BYD Dolphin has and owners also says it is quite slow.

Because of this, even tesla's charging speed also limited to 80kW at 200kW chargers.

According to specs, the EV3 only has 128 kW for the bigger battery variant. But the EV3 is a budget car in the sub-compact genre. It's probably making tradeoffs to lower prices. The Niro EV only gets 100 kW charging too. It's competing with the likes of the Bolt, Kona, and Leaf rather than the faster charging competition.
