I did my first EV test drive today! Never drove an electric before, except for a fork lift 😂 EV3 GT Line. Wau, it was simply amazing! Decided to lease one for 3 years, they have a special offer on that starting January next year. Will cost me 50 pounds more than my 6 years old Kia Rio all in all per month. That’s with the lease, home charge subscription, and a cheaper but better insurance, same company though. Denmark is a good place for EV’s. Even covers if I fall in or out of the car by accident 😂 But I’ll go with the Upgrade, has practically got all the most important GT features! Great video by the way, and educational 👍🏻

Heat pump has a less effect here in Ireland than you’d think. I drove 2 cars for 12 months in our fleet. A 2020 Model 3 Performance and a 2022 Model 3 Performance. Both cars done the same mileage and on the same days (2 separate drivers) and the car without a heat pump was more efficient on some days and less efficient on other days. Mileage and kWh/100km was recorded month on month. Once the cabin gets up to temp, the draw on the HV battery significantly drops on cars with and without a HP.

My fear of EVs and modern cars in general, does relate to the drop off in resale value over time. I’m a used car buyer. Model cars date like mobile phones. Where once I felt safe buying a car with close to 100K KM mileage, I struggle with the idea of doing the same for an EV. I’d have to get 30-50K and relatively up-in-the years. At that stage I’m at 35K for the car. An older diesel is cheaper. My current 9 year old, paid for diesel ( which I can fuel with HVO) is cheaper again.

Just the fact that you state that an EV dates like an old mobile phone show me that you haven't got a clue on what you're talking about. Here in Denmark we have many EVs that are + 8-10 years old, and still drive perfectly well! Studies have shown that the capacity of modern EV batteries only drops by around 2 % per year. So after 10 years you still have plenty of juice on the battery. And remember that most brands offer 8 years warranty on the battery.
@Iambarnie5 сағат бұрын
@@Greatdane-qf8kdI was referring to tech within them primarily, there. But then, that probably applies to all cars so it’s a fair point to say that batteries are solid after 8 years. Nobby needs to be honest; a claimed 600 km range is typically 400 km on a motorway at 120 kmh, and that is where range really matters. I have used IONITY twice, charging cost was an incredible 79c per kWh or exactly twice the price of diesel for the same journey. EV prices are coming inline with ICE cars, however for a major shift to electric cars, much longer range, plus reasonably priced motorway charging is required. Most importantly, if you can not install home charging, do not buy an EV.

The Kia EV3 is a compelling electric vehicle (EV) that addresses many common concerns about transitioning to electric driving. With its long-range capability, fast charging, and robust feature set, it’s a significant addition to the EV market in Ireland for 2024 and beyond. Here's a summary: ### Key Features: - **Range:** The long-range version boasts an 80 kWh battery, claiming over 600 km of range (sometimes showing 700 km, though this may require a pinch of salt). - **Charging Speed:** Exceptional charging speeds exceeding 135 kW, with fast-charging infrastructure such as Ionity making it practical for quick top-ups. - **Warranty and Apps:** A 7-year comprehensive warranty and apps like Kia Connect and Kia Charge enhance convenience. Kia Charge consolidates payment options for charging, while Kia Connect enables keyless access, preconditioning, and vehicle tracking. - **Price:** Starting at under €40,000 for the base model (with grants) and rising to €48,000 for the top-spec GT Line. ### Pros: 1. **Fast Charging:** Real-world tests show impressive speed, e.g., a rapid charge from 17% to 45% in minutes. 2. **High Specification:** Features include a heat pump, battery preconditioning, recycled interior materials, a functional glass roof, and rear heated seats. 3. **Practicality:** Spacious boot (460 litres) and additional front storage (25 litres). Accommodates family needs like children’s bikes and pet carriers. 4. **Efficiency:** Consumption ranges from 17.7-19 kWh/100 km, competitive for its class. 5. **Comfort:** A focus on smooth and comfortable driving makes it a family-friendly EV. ### Cons: 1. **Handling:** While comfortable, the EV3 exhibits noticeable body roll and lacks sharp handling, particularly during spirited driving. 2. **Noise and Alerts:** Numerous beeping alerts (e.g., speed monitoring, lane assist) can be intrusive. 3. **Price:** Despite grants, the high cost may deter budget-conscious buyers. The interior materials feel less premium at the GT Line price point. 4. **Front-Wheel Drive Only:** All-wheel drive is unavailable, which may limit appeal for some buyers. ### Comparison with Competitors: - **Skoda Enyaq iV (Elroq):** Similar in price but offers all-wheel drive and dynamic chassis control for better handling. However, it lacks Kia's 7-year warranty. - **Niro EV:** A cheaper alternative from Kia, but with slightly less power and range. ### Practical Advice: - Charging at home with solar panels can further reduce costs, especially during off-peak rates. - It’s ideal for family use, offering a spacious interior, thoughtful features, and excellent app integration. ### Verdict: The Kia EV3 is a well-rounded EV that combines range, speed, and features in a competitive package. While it's not perfect, particularly in terms of handling and premium interior feel, it stands out as a practical and versatile choice. For those considering a reliable and family-oriented EV, the EV3 is a strong contender.

You talk about a 600 to 700 Kilometre range but your not fooling me thats only a a measly 373 to 435 mile range, I get well over 500 miles range on one tank of petrol in my Kia Niro self charging hybrid and best of all it only takes 3 minutes to gas up under a nice rain stopping canopy to get another 500 mile plus range unlike EV's that take forever to charge up to 100% and you dont even get a canopy to stand under when it rains!!Oh, and I can run my Niro almost out of petrol without worrying if the next petrol station will be working or not or full up with other cars. Until EV's can get a real 500 mile range and charge up in 10 mins under a canopy I wouldnt even consider one.

I find the range to be perfectly useable - including for long trips from Wales to Norfolk; My existing EV (MG4) has a nominal range of c 270m. It comfortably does a real world 180+ miles between charges even in the middle of winter, with plenty left in reserve. That's 2-3 hours driving, after which I need a break. By the time I've been to the loo and bought a coffee, my car is good to go for another couple of hundred miles. The large battery version of the EV3 has a better range than my existing MG, so would be just as useable, although it's a pity the charge speed of the Kia isn't a bit higher....

100km of range in a phev requires around a 30kwh battery. An ev could easily do 200km with a battery that size.

@@Damo699 It might work for a tiny country like Ireland...but not outside the big cities in Australia....and battery tech is improving of course..a smaller battery to achieve 100k is not that far off, ATM I have 45 k's of battery range on a 12.4 kWh which is ample for 2 days......until i need to to a long trip!.

I can't endorse the Kia Charge Plus app. It literally doesn't offer the advertised discount for the Plus service. I'd be furious if I was a paid subscriber (I have a year for free). Kia have no interest in addressing the issue.

Mark. Again a proper review. Kia/ Hyundai....let's face it, " Emperor's new clothes... Equally bad taste and neither ( so called) brand could design a proper car if their actual children's lives depended on it. In a word dreadful. Skoda can rest easy. Leagues ahead... Must be LOL in the boardroom. Renault and indeed Peugeot too.

SMMT November 2024 November saw double-digit falls in registrations of petrol (-17.7%) and diesel (-10.1%) cars, with petrol remaining the most popular powertrain. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid uptake also declined, by -3.6% and -1.2% respectively. Battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations, meanwhile, rose for an eleventh successive month, up 58.4% to 38,581 units, representing 25.1% of the overall market but driven by heavy manufacturer discounting. With the best market share since December 2022,2 November is just the second month this year in which BEV uptake has reached mandated levels3, albeit against the backdrop of a declining overall market.

@@richardhowlett7398 it doesn't take any "time" to charge overnight at home which makes up 99% of charging. An EV takes up much less of your time to refuel when you look at it that way. The odd 20 mins on the rare occasion is no bother when you haven't been in a petrol station in 6 months... Nevermind the cost difference.

What about charging while you sleep ?? No regular trips to the petrol/diesel station.. The amount of time and hassle that I’ve saved in the last 3 years of EV driving completely wipes out the time that I spend on a long journey, when the car needs a charge, the dog needs a walk and a pee, and I need a coffee and a pee. It’s just a no-brainer for me … after a life of petrols, diesels, and many turbo-diesels … I’m not going back ! So there 😂
