At first I thought this car was ugly and thought kia had really screwed up after all their ute hype... but then I look at how bland every other car from every other manufacturer available right now is, and I think good on Kia for being bold and standing out from the crowd. The saying goes - there's only one thing worse than being talked about, and that's not being talked about. People will talk about this kia and it's looks, and it will get attention, it will be well known. How many people talk about a Mazda 3, or a corolla, or Mux, or an ASX...? In a world where every car looks the same, this is a stand out. And gen 2 will likely be spot on in terms of design. The worst design feature of this car is that pointless kick up of the rear passenger window, that every manufacturer insists on doing. Why you want to reduce the visibility of back seat passengers from how bad it already is - I don't get it and I cannot wait for that trend to end. Besides that, good on kia for having a crack at setting themselves apart from the majority

Oh my goodness KIA, after many years of fresh cool looking designed cars, you bring out this UTE ?? The interior is OK, but the exterior looks ugly from any angle, and that's being nice. I hope it's a good and reliable car, because that's all it will have going for it, and sorry the interior. 🙂

These Aussies are so lucky to have a proper Bush Ute. I've been complaining that our American boys are getting soft wanting Pretty Boy pickup trucks that never leave the blacktop roads. Hat's off to Kia! And there it is, a single-cab truck that America will never see. That is a nice payload of 2,635 pounds and an average of 31 miles per gallon of fuel. I assume that is diesel. One question, do the rear seats flip up allowing the driver to load boxes?

⁠The panel is not cut, it’s stamped. And then dipped and painted. The wheel arch compartment is fitted later. And even if the compartment leaks (which I highly doubt) it’s not going to travel up to the panel above it. Because, you know, gravity.

It's designed for military use as a technical truck. This is why they release it first in the Middle East. In the Middle East, there are no trees and bushes. Easily hide the headlight with cover. Flat hood is good for reading the tactical map. Kia produces military vehicles in Korea such as KLTV.

My concern is those big dash displays and how they work at night. Can they be dimmed enough so as not to hinder the forward vision. I have found that in a lot of the newer vehicles nowadays that they are too bright at night when on the roads away from the street lights

I’ll stick to 90s/2000s utes. They got it right. Manual transmission, basic simple design, easy to fix and super reliable and not over engineered. All you need when doing off-roading and in remote locations

Hey Matt. Why do car companies put seats with headrests tilted so far forward? I sat in a new Hyundai with those seats and decided not to get one because they’re so uncomfortable. I think this is more of a lifestyle Ute than an actual workhorse. It’s a nice car though. If the seats were nice and sharply priced, I’d get one.

needs bigger engine and appealing design. I have a SORENTO with the excellent 2.2 diesel turbo, but serious off roaders and haulers will want a more potent engine. For those who do not need 3 tonne towing capacity or serious off road ability, the new BYD SHARK seems to offer the latest in TECH plus excellent performance at a very competitive price. Most utes are now viewed as family cars so few need to tow big loads or go serious off-roading.

This must be the worst Korean styling since the original Ssangyong Stavic. Mahindra and Jeep Gladiator with the worst styling details of both rolled into a single vehicle. The only reason I can see that it is like this is that they are looking to sell it in the USA. When you are driving it at least you can't see the exterior. Performance wise the power and torque figures are at the lower end of the segment, unless it is priced at the lower end I can see it struggling for sales.

I like the quirky design and the interior features are great - BUT, really, given that they're probably in the $50 - $70k range, you'd want that sort of investment to be good for at least 5 or six years. In the meantime, within the next 12 months or so, there will be more EV Ute options hitting the Australian market. The BYD Shark 6 is already here. Why outlay all that money on yesterday's technology? I'll wait for more EV options. Kia already have a EV's, so why they wasted that opportunity on the Tasman doesn't make sense.

5 years too late. When first talked about. It was promised with the Genesis 6cyl turbo diesel. Temu must have got involved with the released power train and looks.... Now it's swamped by the Chinese utes and Byd Shark is now available as well....Own goal Kia.. ⚽️

I actually love that it's different and clearly unexpected! In my country the Toyotas and Fords are main target for hijacking which puts me off buying those. Toyota Fortuner shares some parts with Toyota Quantums, and that makes it highly targeted. So it pleases me to see a car no one will want to hijack because it's OBVIOUSLY different *Ugly*(not to me😅) in EVERY way! It stands out! Might be quick to find if (God forbid) it gets stolen. As most of agree, this thing is as ugly as. But people don't buy utes for looks. So we'll see how the market reacts. It'll come down to a combination of price, features, performance, economy, towing and payload capacity. What everyone seems to miss is I think is the diesel engine. I'm thinking that's the weak link, not the looks. It's not like buying a BMW where looks are important.
