2025 King of Motos Qualifier on board with Cody Webb

POV Gopro footage from yours truly during the King of Motos qualifier. First outing on the Yamaha YZ250X. Held down second for a bit, but wasn't pushing too hard to just remain consistent. Was riding a little tight and made a few bike changes for the race the next day.

Watching this on my 65" TV gave me anxiety and flashbacks to boot 😂 Used to ride out there in the 90s, our ride leader was the District 37 V1 Expert plate for two years. This reminds me of those "where's the trail" rides he took us on. I was going exponentially slower, but suffered plenty on my kick start 500 two stroke.

I gave up on my 250x 3 years ago (although i do look at 'er when i walk through the garage). Its great to see you doing GOAT stuff on one. My one complaint was always that damned gearbox. I went to a 12/51 to try to stay in 2nd for the tough stuff but that just killed the top speed in the fast stuff. Did a sprint in the state up north when i mentioned how slow it was on my video i got soooooo much hate (obviously scramblers running stock gears). One of these days i may put the 1st and 2nd out of a wr450 in it and go up on the gearing to a 13/50 or something to get a smidge more top. No idea how you did so well (well other than being the GOAT) when an old untalented fart like me can tap it out in 5th (literally my KDX has more top speed). Keep up the great work we all are loving the new ride!

I beg to differ. I built a KTM250xcw a few years back for hard enduro and spent at least $3.5k on everything before I had the suspension revalved. The slogan Ready to Race is just words. Also, do you think Yamaha is backing Cody for the fun of it??

Great ride Cody! I find it unbelievable how fast you can negotiate that terrain without eating shite. I just bought a 2017 YZ250x to augment my Sherco 300sef. I think it will be fun to try some of the mods you’ve done. I’m very keen to see if the Brembo clutch set up will become available at some point.

I still have no idea how any of you riders know how to stay on course. It does not look marked enough and there's no way your are looking at GPS that much.

Tire tracks, markers, & yes GPS. Have to look if your unsure about the next turn.

I should add that you also have a lot of freedom, there are checkpoint areas where you have to be because your bike has a transponder. But, you kind of have the freedom to choose your own lines, theres not always a designated "track". As long as you went thru each checkpoint area, you can create your own line to the next one, unless otherwise marked. Usually the fastest line is the one everyone is using, hence following the tire tracks. It can be difficult if your in 1st place, occasionally people do make mistakes.
