2025 Make Nine Sewing Challenge + Sewing Plans | So What If I Sew

I had a lot of fun compiling this year's list and really tried to make an effort to recognise the gaps in my wardrobe, new wardrobe use cases that didn't exist previously, and a few nice things for my honeymoon later in the year!

You have some excellent garments planned. I’m looking forward to seeing them in 2025. It’ nice to have a mix of event sewing and everyday items you know you’ll wear for years to come. It’s interesting how different the planning process is for different people. You seemed to use Make Nine really successfully in 2024. I’ve tried it a few different ways (9 patterns, fabrics or garments) and haven’t ever followed through. Perhaps not the right formula for my ADHD brain? Over the past year I started using seasonal mood boards where I pair inspiration photos that I’d love to have in my wardrobe with patterns and fabrics (mostly from stash). It reminds me of all the great stuff I already have. It also gives me a variety of different projects to choose from each time I sew, with no pressure to make everything on the mood board. And I can swap out photos/patterns/fabrics if I decide I don’t really want something I previously added. I’ve found it a much more successful planning method for me.

I sooo agree there’s a settling in period when I go to sew. I envy those sewist that can grab 20 min here and there. Roll on 25 it’s going to be a good year

There are/were a couple of gorgeous swimwear fabrics in the fabric godmother sale! I love the Manuela dress, I never heard of that pattern before… very very tempted to make for a wedding I have to attend, but the fabric won’t suit it that I have bought from the fabric godmother sale… might need to buy more fabric 😉😉

@ a pattern review would be FAB!! 😍😍 I have got my sewing mojo back after a few years not sewing… the ‘intermediate’ rating scares me a wee bit, but maybe I can handle it 🙈 would love to know how you get on with it and the skill level you would rate it 🧵😃

Not sure if I'm doing one this year or not, but there are garments on last year’s I still want to make, some of which I have started so maybe I'll concentrate on getting those done first. Lovely set of plans for this year and you seem so excited about them which is lovely to see. I have tried a couple of times in the past to do a “make nine” but I find it too restrictive as I go off down different rabbitholes later in the year. I like doing plans but I need a different system.

Thank you! I am so excited for a year of much more relaxed sewing ☺️ Make nine definitely doesn't suit everyone, sometimes its nice to just set some focus areas, or even just an aim that you are going to sew what excites you! However you shape your year I hope you have a brilliant 2025 of sewing 🎉
