The true test will be in the aftermarket. Did they build these engines full tilt from the factory like many others or can they be tripled in power like a 2JZ lsx or b58

Well the "Cat X" crate engine has already been announced and said to be used in the next gen Drag Pak, which means it'll have to make 1500+HP to be competitive. But they also already said that that engine will have a "race block & head". The head for sure is absolutely going to be needed for real big power, these modern head designs that have a turbo 'manifold' cast into the head(@6:08) are very restrictive when you start cranking up the power, so I'm fully expecting that the 'race head' will have standard exhaust ports for a header. The block though, that'll be the real question of course - how much will it hold? If it's going to take a Mopar race block to hold 4-digit power reliably, that's going to significantly increase the cost of building one of these for that level of racing.

Raptors with the 3.5L Ecoboost have cooling fans on the intercooler so that slow speed offroading is not really an issue. The intercooler is the same as the regular F150. That said, the Ecoboost intercoolers have generally left a lot to be desired. My 2014 Ecoboost could hit 190F intake temps on hot days towing with the stock intercooler. With a CVF intercooler, I never saw over 120F even on 100F days.

I had a 3.5 ecoboost. The air to air intercooler would build up water and oil in the bottom of the intercooler. On a rainy day I was pulling on to the highway and it sucked all that into the motor. It caused the truck to buck really hard. I pulled into a dealer and they put a piece of plastic on the intercooler and reflashed the ecu. I sold the truck immediately after. Theres no way that under full load those rods didnt get weakened by that event.

Air to water intercooling removes lots of wasted space with boost tubes,less chances of leaking,and overall a more compact engine assembly its also highly efficient just a couple cheap electric pumps to do the work
@CTECH-REVIEW24 күн бұрын
Yes it is a much more efficient system for a boosted engine, but it’s not cheap to implement and most truck owners won’t notice the difference in performance. I think it is a good idea for a more compact package but it might not be in the plans for this engine for this model year.

What do you think about IGM AUTO tuning their 2025 Ram RHO, could there be more tuners coming out for the RHO and the Cat X hurricane engine?
@CTECH-REVIEWАй бұрын
Brian does a great job with his channel and production. JB4 tuning is nothing new. They use a universal tuning technique that works across several vehicle platforms. I’m very excited to see how this engine does with tuning. I think we will see something launched from Mopar and others early 2025 that is RHO specific. From what I understand this engine can take some boost!

Air to water isn't that great. Can't drop IAT's past the coolant temp. The cast manifold in the heads is fine but if you've seen cast parts I'm sure you can imagine what the porting looks like... 26PSI on a 3.0 I6 making 550 at the crank is cool but not impressive, throw half the boost at a v8 and it won't even be close. Overall, I'm glad to see the I6 making a comeback and not another V6 but not at the expense of losing the V8. ~ this is just my shit take, take it or leave it 🤷

Great info! Thank you for shairing. If they do the same style of water to air that was on TRx guys were getting intake temps at near freezing temps. I hope that is the case for the RHO. Good point on the porting. Since it’s on the head I’m not sure how you port it.

You cannot just make 1000 hp out of a 3.0L without an absolutely insane amount of boost, and therefore, and insane amount of octane. While it may be possible they designed the engine to handle that power, getting there is a different story. You'll need E85 and a mammoth compressor capable of 50+ psi and 100+ lbs/min of airflow. That's not going to spool well.
