Damn that was a big one! I feel like the best chance for the red team would be to fire all their Anti ship missiles at once in the begining to try and take out 1 carrier. Then they would have a big advantage, but they were firing them in waves instead. Also was the YJ21 nerfed ? It's terminal speed was like half than it was in the other videos. Also the British ships weren't even able to fire at them and now they were activly intercepting them.
@grimreapers Жыл бұрын
We've changed YJ-21, apparently it's real life impact speed is going to be around mach 4. So it now slows as it gets lower.

@@grimreapers I mean PLA's strategic support force official account on their weibo app stated that it has a mach 10 terminal speed . Pre-battle comments. First, I love GR. Thank you for fullfilling my online battle/war sim needed with so much skill and effort. None of what I type below is a complaint! I must make that clear. I only want to add my comments and opinion and perhaps someone will find it relevant or useful. I freaking love this battle and GR videos and can't wait to watch. Pretty much all of the intangibles which either simply can't be modeled in DCS or can't be modeled very well, end up favoring the blue/NATO side in the real world. 1. Submarines - the single largest NATO advantage, in perhaps all of modern combat, let alone naval battles. 2. Training - blue has better training programs in general, larger budgets, and in the case of China specifically, actual experience in modern combat to formulate their training. I think it's fair to say NATO pilots are the best trained worldwide in particular. The US and UK have the highest respect and tradition of excellence on the oceans. Russia has a crappy carrier and allowed their large Black Sea flagship to be taken out by a country effectively without a navy. 3. The actual Type 003 only has 3 catapults and 2 elevators rathers than the Ford's 4 catapults and 3 elevators. And that's not even taking into consideration the lack of carrier operational experience due to operating on smaller STVOL carriers in past years with NATO directly observing a very slow deck operation during Chinese open sea training missions. 4. By 2025, the US will be within a couple of years of implementing their own hypersonic missiles onto ships. I admit the reds have the missile advantage for 2025, but it likely won't last too long (2030 max perhaps). 5. The 2025 Tomahawk loadout would be able to fire at moving ships to increase the blue anti-ship missile loadout. 6. NSM is potentially going to be added as a VLS anti-ship missile by 2025, but GR is right to exclude them as it's an unknown still. 7. Although I absolutely adore the work Current Hill has done and he has been a force for infinite good in DCS and for GR, there are really only two issues I have with CH-created assets. 1) the China and RU ships apparently (both?) have an additional 24x-48x "countermeasure/decoy" launchers that effectively act as super-short-range SAMs to take out incoming missiles. I know about these launchers in the real world and they exist, but the blue side doesn't have their own decoy systems modeled at all, so it's simply not 1-to-1 when it comes to ship countermeasures. 2) The newer RU ship can apparently detect stealth anti-ship missiles like LRASM. The only reason I've seen given is the RU ship is recently built. If that's the reason, why doesn't the US have their upgraded SPY-6 radar on their own ships (currently being retrofitted on numerous ships with the first examples sailing)? 8. This is really a huge one. The full capability of data link is not modeled for the blue side. This is relevant as the blue data link and target deconfliction is absolutely better than the red side given all public indications. Just look at Russia's military performance where infantry are scavenging commercial grade walkie talkies and stuff. The F-35 is essentially designed to enhance the data link capabilities of the entire fleet. Aegis is likely able to do things in the real world that are just nuts. 9. Also amazingly huge - the blue side has significnatly better electronic warefare capabilities, once again driven by the F-35's capabilities among other tech. 10. Experience is something that can't be fully replaced. For all the manufacturing and development China does in particular, nothing they made and the way they would fight is truly an unknown factor. Will those hypersonic anti-ship missiles fire? Will their SAMs intercept NATO missiles? Will their radar and other sensors work well? Will their materials hold up in battle? WIll their people fight well in an organized manner under pressure? No one knows and no one will know until the unfortunate time warfare breaks out. Russia, the US, and the UK all have recent histories of warfare and the world in general knows how well these countries fight from both the position of their hardware/weapons and people. With all that said, I still freaking love all of GR and CH and I merely type out this stuff to be informative. It doesn't take away from the entertainment or detract from the excellent efforts made by all involved. Appreciate what these guys have done, as trying to enhance a sim with consumer-grade public software and data to this level is just amazing.

I was wondering, does having a bunch of stealth aircraft on the deck of an aircraft carrier reduce it's radar profile to hypersonic missiles? Those things basically come down on top of target, so I was wondering if covering an carrier with a load of angled stealth surfaces would make it look smaller. I know DCS won't model that, but would it have an affect irl?
@Dirtyharry70585 Жыл бұрын
Don’t think the aircraft could not hide such a massive ship with radars running
@dgthe3 Жыл бұрын
Stealth isn't a cloaking field that surround the plane. It reduces the radar return of the aircraft itself, nothing else. I guess you wouldn't see the deck immediately underneath the plane. But most of the deck would still be generating a return. Along with the island, the sides of the hull, the on-deck equipment and so on. Think of it another way: if you are wearing camouflage & lie down on top of a tank, can the tank still be seen? Same sort of thing with stealth aircraft parked on the deck of a carrier.
@doomer_to_boomer2402 Жыл бұрын
@@dgthe3 Yeah I get that. I mean, like, in a clinch, could you just bring up all the stealth planes and just park them all over the top, covering as much of the carrier as you could. If the missiles are arcing down, and self-guiding for the biggest radar signature, could you bring down the carrier's radar signature enough to look like a smaller ship? If you lie down on top of a tank, it'll still look like a tank with a camo splodge in the middle of it, but if you get a platoon to lie down on the upper surfaces of a tank, it'd just look like a larger camo splodge, or a bunch of guys lying down 😉
@doomer_to_boomer2402 Жыл бұрын
@@flashgordon6670 Or, make a smaller ship very radar-obvious with a canopy that just makes it look bigger? I watched on Rumble, and I will again encourage all you Viewingtons to hop over there and do the same. If you truly support the Grim Reapers, then PLEASE, go watch these missions (which have had SOOOO much work put into them) on a platform that will not demonetize you for content that is not in any way offensive. I won't get rid of youtube, my kids watch stuff on here, and I follow some good history content on here, but DAMN, they are seriously fucking up if they think anything about a single Grim Reaper's video is worth demonetizing. Sorry for the rant, it just pisses me off that a platform would shoot itself in the foot by hurting the very people who are responsible for making it what it is, or rather, what it was.

Loss of life/casualty differences: The 003 doesn't have a crew complement listed, but based on the smaller Type 002 and similar sized Kitty Hawk carrier, it would have a crew complement of ~4000. The 055 has a complement of "300+", so let's say 350*2=700. The 052D has a complement of ~280, so 280*2 is 560. J-15B (1 or 2 seater,) let's say that it is split 1:1, so ~46 KJ-600 is the Chinese CATOBAR E-2D equivalent, crew complement of 5-6, so ~16 MiG-29K is single seater, so 27. Total REDFOR casualties: ~5,350 _________________________________ F-35 (all variants, single seater): 27 (probably less if the British pilots didn't go all dumb. F/A-18F (two seater): 16 Total Blufor casualties: 43 All in all, REDFOR had ~124x more casualties than BLUFOR.

Great video Cap, as always. I alwyas feel a valued viewer! And thank you for all the hard work!!!... but I have to ask why you always hamstring the UK carrier to only 24 F35, when it can surge to 36-40 in wartime? We currently have around 30 F35b in the UK and should be able to field the standard "war time" load out of 36 F35b on one carrier by the end of 2023!
@tonybell404 Жыл бұрын
It's a somewhat unrealistic expectation unfortunately to expect 100% of the available aircraft to be available for use on HMS QE. Even then though she's been described technically as capable of up to 50+ aircraft, standard full operational strength will be 24 f35 according to Admiral Tim Radakin "by 2024" so at least that's accurate, with other numbers being made up of merlin and wildcat, with martlet and crowsnest. The QE class will also be using different types of drones and multiple different types have been tested in the last few months on HMS PoW. Honestly the 6x Type 45 is the most unrealistic problem for me (although not that much becaused im biased towards them hahahaha), I'd love to see a 2030s UK CSG fielding 4 type 26, 2 type 45 etc. with FC/ASW or whatever ends up being that missle
@Decrepit_biker Жыл бұрын
@@tonybell404 true, it is unrealistic to expect all F35 to be available for operation at any one time, but I would say that 36 operational would be reasonable by 2025 in wartime conditions! (when this simulation is set) Agreed that all of the destroyers actually being in one fleet is unlikely, even in 2025 its more likely to be 2 45s maybe 2-3 type 23 and a new type 26 IF it were rushed through massively......

The US seems to be 5 to 10 years ahead of current day in terms of advanced missile inventories. Aim260 and LRASM seem new enough (Last 2 or 3 years) that they wouldn't have enough to deploy significant numbers in a conflict and that's if they're actually in service yet. The UK also may not be able to deploy 24 F35BS as that's nearly our entire number. Edit: also doesn't make sense that the Red side doesn't appear to have any SAMs capable of targeting AShMs?
@Jeffrey.1978 Жыл бұрын
@Duane - I definitely agree, the U.S. Navy would also be using a lot of ADM-160 MALDs to both deceive and eat up a lot of the adversary’s defensive missiles. The price difference compared to a LRASM is a huge difference too. I asked Cap to pass on to CH to make a mod for the ADM-160; it would have an invaluable spot in anti-shipping and SEAD missions.
