Xpeng G6 for anticioated A$55k on the road will challenge ex60. Those wanting a more premium cabin can look to Zeekr. The gaps of the core components between family car and premium brands is not what it was, comfort safety and performance of family car frequently matches levels of luxury brands. Brabus and AMG like performance in an EV for a fraction of the price. Even more sophisticated advertising will be required to justify the price of these badges.

Cabin looks premium, the price is pitched at those brand loyalists who are willing to pay an extra $50k for the badge (compared to the new Chinese brands with similar tech) The large battery is worth a $10k premium. Paul refers to the floundering merc to help define the ex90 value, but imho Volvo will lose more buyers to the new brands than it gains from legacy. Commoditised safety tech, ADAS along with the inherent quietness of EVs narrows the once significant gap in technology between luxury brands and the rest.

Its funny how you have to pay $130K for premium quality in a premium brand car. At actual Tesla prices, you can only get the base level EX30, which has an awfully cheap and nasty interior, and it's a very small car. But if we then explore the latest Chinese EVs, you get a premium brand's premium quality, but for half the price.

One: Still the reference in this sector = Model X Two: All OEMs rely on chargers from non-EV manufacturers, and these are generally bad! Not Tesla though! Three: Model X newest version released 2021, these guys only now starting to catch-up. Yet, sales are dismal... That said, this use a 111Kw/h battery to do what Model X does with a 98-104 Kw/h battery. Range and performance not yet at Tesla level! Four: None of the so-called competitors to Tesla, build EV's and sell them at a competitive and sustainably competitive price bracket. All OEM rely on their ICE vehicles to finance their EV's... So, no, the only competitor to Model X & S, are themselves in that Tesla decided stupidly, to not make them in RHD variants...
@mickjoebills2 ай бұрын
Tesla are ahead no doubt. However, BYD make 80% of the components to their cars. They sell LFP batteries to Tesla. BYD make a profit. Xpeng G6 is model y size, has a longer warranty, uses mega castings front and rear, charges faster than Tesla, has V2L, 29 sensors, smart summon and other enhanced ADAS are included as is paint and interior colours so price is significantly lower than Y. They Y is more efficient but even the long range G6 is cheaper than standard range Y. Tesla could quickly respond by including the extras in the base price to narrow the gap. That being said the new Mona 03 is half the price of model 3.

@@mickjoebills Yeh, but have to say that the margins on BYD vehicles looks sketchy and very thin. Also, BYD, although not bad in spec, seems to be much worst in real life and feel... It's same with all Chinees cars, they look good on paper until you actually get into it, things just do not add up somehow! That might be why they sell well in China, but gets well "trumped" in all other markets they do compete. Most likely will change over time, but they just always feel cheep in real life....?
