2026 LEXUS NX Refresh? Part 4 - Wish list from owners

Good video! Thanks for compiling these for Lexus. Here are my notes on your list. I have some additional wants tacked onto the end of the list. * Walk away door locking - please make this optional! … dead battery? * Sounds when locking doors - yes! The design philosophy for many features needs to be: try to keep us from NEEDING to look down (away from the road) * Parking assist for side mirrors - Yes. I also want a sensor for overhead obstructions like partially closed garage doors. * Dog mode - Should make the run time configurable up to & including starting the ICE (perhaps intermittently) and consuming fuel down to “xyz” range remaining. * Spare tire - Yes please. Integrated is vastly better than having a dirty tire in the trunk. * Window smash sensor - Sure… maybe include this into a larger anti-theft package that includes tampering with components of the car (breaking headlights/tail lights/ etc), raising the car to tow, interior cameras, 360 exterior cameras, interior/exterior sound recording, digital storage of all sensors, etc. * 360 camera - Again, might want to have a package to get this feature. * More EV range - Don’t want too much range… boosting from 40 to maybe 60 miles would be as much as I’d want. Diminishing returns vs added weight/size/cost. * BEV version - Good to have as an alternative! This one wants to have at least 200 (preferably 300) mile range & fast recharge capability. * NX500h - Probably not worth a lot. If you want a different product line, maybe a two seater SUV? * Capless fillers - Sure, but not worth a lot. * Squeak reduction - Squeaks sure sound cheesy. NEW - Want sensor to avoid partially closed garage doors and other overhead obstructions... particularly while backing up. NEW - Want internal/external audio microphones for anti-theft recording. NEW - Want front/rear elevation sensor for anti-tow recording. NEW - Want dead 12V battery avoidance by better sensing & recharge capability. When the car is left for longer periods, the 12V battery can become discharged. Why not drain some charge from the drive battery or start the ICE to recharge it? Probably want a minimum fuel/drive battery charge remaining limit. This is useful for when people are on vacation or a car is left in storage (e.g. airport long term parking) in addition to just not used. Ideally, Lexus should use longer life batteries than lead acid for the accessory (currently 12V) battery. Note: might be good to allow shutting off extraneous power uses like the cameras or other anti-theft features… and might include remote sensing the key fob.

Oh, yeah, some other stuff that I forgot about... NEW - One pedal driving capability would be nice as an option. NEW - In the "charge" mode where the ICE is charging the drive battery, it would be nice if there was different levels of charge from slow (say 1 mile of range per 20 minutes up to as fast as the battery can accept charge or the ICE can generate power).

Walk away door locking : for the existing feature with the rear door only, it is optional. You can enable the full "close & lock" with walk away and the 30 seconds wait time to take stuff in the trunk, or immediate "close & lock" without 30 seconds and walk away. This is a personalized setting.

The walk away they mentioned is more like it will lock without pressing any buttons. Just walk away with the keyfob and it will lock. Different from the trunk one.

I really enjoyed your 4-part series and also hope that Lexus will implement these and many other improvements in the next refresh. Regarding the mirrors you mentioned, I had a small mishap when I had my car for the first week of ownership. I was navigating in a narrow alleyway one evening and wasn't yet fully accustomed to the size of the NX, there was a spot where I had to go between an old wooden telephone pole on the left and an open entrance door on the right side of the vehicle. What happened next was the left mirror touched the pole and automatically retracted. Fortunately, there was no damage to the mirror and all I had to do was to unfold it back form the control panel. Long story short, it seems that Lexus have put some protective measures in the unlikely case the mirrors would meet an obstacle while parking/driving.

Hey LSFT, I'm going on a trip for a month and parking my car at the airport. I'm concerned it may not start when I return - Should I not be worried or is there something I can do to prevent a flat battery?? Thanks again for the great channel.

The airport parking is a multi-level complex and does not get sunshine? There is 12V solar chargers that you can setup if you do have sunshine, but if not - then what I would say is make sure you have a battery booster fully charged in the car, have it fully trickle charged and go to the airport 30-45 mins earlier to let the car idle before leaving. Make sure your mobile app is closed and not running. After 7 days, the car should go into sleep and should be ok, but I have not let the car not run for 1 month - so I don't know what will happen. It might be ok and all is good. Just prepare yourself if it dead then boost it and get going. One thing to keep in mind is when you do get back the car, unlock it and immediately start the car before loading your luggage and stuff. Don't unlock it and then load luggage then try to start the car. Enjoy your trip - safe travels!

@@lsft Thanks LSFT. To be honest my fear what my wife would do to me if it doesn't start after arriving back at 6am in the morning after 22hours of travelling 🫣 Thanks for the great advice.

I know what you mean. Another option is to keep the car at home and take an Uber or Taxi. The car is not parked in a car parking for a month. Even some cars not driving for one month could cause the 12V to die.

@@lsft Good suggestion but the problem is we live about 3 hours from a Capital city airport so an Uber is about $400 each way! Parking for the month under cover is about $350. I've already had a terrible situation where the car went dead after I accidentally left it on overnight and put my dog in the back and then couldn't't get it open. We were on the way to the hospital 3 hours away to see my wife's mum and it took 2 hours to get roadside assistance to get the car open and going again, then make the trip. Suffice to say that the Lexus brand in my wife's eyes took a big hit 😂. If it happened again I'd be the one getting the big hit 😵. I'll take jumper leads with me and maybe buy a trickle charger and park so the rear battery is accessible, then take yr advice and turn it on immediately I arrive. 🤞

Do you happen to know where to buy the dog divider shown within the “Dog Mode” chapter of the video? I am only finding it available in other countries and not in the USA.

You should be able to buy them in the USA. Not cheap accessory though. parts.lexus.com/p/Lexus__/Pet-Divider--Black/114926320/PW25578000.html parts.lexus.com/p/Pet-Divider--Black/114926321/PW25578002.html In Canada they have Pet Screen and Pet Divider. I think this is the two parts, but you need to verify.

Kenneth again, when you can, try to close rear gate using either buttons but with the vehicle on? Now i try different things and the buttons work with the vehicle off. Even the front button don't close the rear gate if the vehicle is on. Let me how yours work. Thank's again.

Mine works when the car is running. The walk away lock one won't work if you have the keys inside the car or the car is running. The one inside the car, you need to press and hold for a little longer.

@@lsft So i really have something going on. With the engine off is normal. But with the engine running it just open. Whe you hit the button you can hear the 2 beeps but nothing happens so i will have to schedule a visit to the dealership. Thanks again!!!!!🙂✌️

Does anyone know an easy way to turn off the screen for a NX 450h+ other than going thru settings and selecting display, off? There's got to be an easier way. Thanks!

It does not look like there is another way... I even attempted to use "Hey Lexus, turn off the display" and it just goes to the Settings screen.
