The steel backing disk on the magnets makes the flux field shift inwards on one side and shift outwards on the coil side. This allows more penetration of the flux into the coils and does increase the output. I've proven it many times in my axial flux alternators.
@veganismyname

Perhaps but also consider the extra energy needed to spin the steel. Adding graphite to the plastic filament might accomplish that. Weight, magnetic permeability, and magnetic force are all at play. Filament direction would affect magnetic permeability.

@@veganismyname unconsequential. You only need steel behind the magnets. Just a ring, not a whole disk.

For the center section with the serpentine coil wiring, if you printed (or drilled) holes parallel with the axel between the wiring where your printed "wire guides" are and inserted iron rods, the magnetic field between the coils should increase and give you better output.
@hypermindclips
@hypermindclips Жыл бұрын
Can you u explain a little bit better? These "iron rods" you say they need to go through the entire assembly or just the center part that stays stationary (doesnt spin together with the magnets carriers)? Whats the benefit of doing that?
@EvanVlcek
@EvanVlcek Жыл бұрын
Just through the stator (that doesn't move), perpendicular to the copper windings. Magnetic fields form circuits. Like electric circuits, they follow the path of least resistance. Magnets form magnetic field loops. The stronger the magnet, the bigger the loops. Iron offers a lower resistance to direct the field paths and keep the field strength higher where you want it - between the copper windings.
@racketman2u
@racketman2u 7 ай бұрын
you would also introduce "cogging" i.e. resistance to rotation, as the magnets would want to lock onto the rods, which is the opposite to the intention of an axial flux generator.

Robert I was thinking about your last wind turbine generator and I think there a way to increase power output by increasing the wind velocity artificially. what if you funnel the air and push up the air with heat convention like gas stove or wood fire, and as the wind goes up a tapered funnel shape tube it compresses and picks up speed. The wind generator fans can then be placed on the top at the correct angles to get blasted by the jet winds that will come out from the compressed wind. An omni directional wind collector that is heated by fire which then escapes through a narrowing tube which increases wind velocity by as much as 80-100% depending on the efficiency of the design.
@a4awe

And the heater could be powered by the initial and also part of the following wind powering the entire setup, if that makes sense!

This generator is really simple. However the magnet discs are axially held in place by the outer ring of ball bearings. If a magnetic disc gets loose and slips of the bearing, then whole assy fall apart. I suppose that the bearings need to be glued to the magnetic discs, to get stable operation.

I am an American School Teacher and I am in love with your channel. There are too many videos for me to parse through everything, and I am still learning, but I wanted to consolidate most of my questions on what I believe to be the most relevant video. I'm curious about a few design considerations and the impact that these variables have on power generation. Presume that price is not a significant issue and the application would be for banking microhydro or small factor wind energy for offgrid application: 1) Would using stronger magnets increase the voltage? 2) Would using different sized wire be beneficial? 3) Is fewer larger magnets better or more numerous smaller magnets more beneficial? 4) Is the usage of a Serpentine Coil due to the ease of use and/or cost? 5) Is the current generated considered AC or DC given that there is only a single coil? Or does this just mean it is single phase? 6) Would your above setup be appropriate for charging a battery bank for off grid application if the storage was a distance away from the stator?

suggestion... large ring magnet, polarity oriented same as axis. three meter wire. grounding rod closet shelf hanger... stand off for a wall. hang the stand off on an exterior wall ten feet up. hang the three meter wire from the stand off so it hangs a way from the wall and is not grounded through/to, the building. attach ring magnet to a steel plate on a steel axle run the axle through a couple insulated bearings that are mounted above ground. Isolate the magnet axle and bearing from ground sink grounding rod into the ground away from building attach small wire to grounding rod and the other end touches the end of the axle touch the end of the three meter wire to the circumference of the ring magnet... If i am correct this should cause the ring magnet to spin... perhaps only when the ground is intermittently switch on and off...? if works scale it up and go for the height of your tallest building... strength of the magnetic force that rotates the ring magnet is proportionate to the voltage times the electron movement in the magnetic beltways of magnet taller building more voltage

Tip: the magnets are scores more useful by strength and efficiency opening new designs. Use multiple sizes of magnets to make pyramids to use instead of button shaped. 3/4

You understood the principle of guiding the flux in the context of flux switching motors, so why do you still have a problem with the metal ring idea? By reducing the flux resistance on the non-working side, you strengthen the field through your coils.

So many applications... Was thinking how a dog running on a treadmill wouldn't be free because you would have to feed the dog but people pay to burn their dogs energy by hiring walkers. Idea, mobile dog walking service where the dogs recharge the electric bus they are being picked up in. Have them run on treadmills instead of just sitting there hyper. :D Not a trudge bus though, open windows, some run/some chill, still go to the park and things, lol.

So make a copper pipe race track and put a magnet in there, and use compressed air to accelerate it around? You have to have an exit for the air to escape right at where the air comes in at. And then of course have to air leave at the opposite angle to which it enters. The air should also keep things cool. Would be a fun experiment.

"its" P=I*E if you have voltage and current you can get power using basic maths. I think a more useful way to look at motors from a viewpoint of torque and the few points where your RPM are limited by saturation or cancellation (friction can be mostly removed). Since we didn't have a current sensing resistor measured (usually a very small, very precisely known value), its hard to tell since the input impedance of the meter is supposed to be super high (if you want to be precise, you would use a 4-wire meter with kelvin clips), Heisenberg be damned.
