Everyone in the comments is calling this bullshit, but just think about it. If you told someone even just 40 to 50 years ago that there would soon be this place that billions and billions of people could go all at the same time and share things with eachother instintaneously and talk to someone on the other side of the planet with almost to lag in between words said, and post pictures and videos that millions of people could see within a day and play video games on and talk to people any time you want in real time over video, or listen to music for as long as you like. or that there would be these small devises that you could hold in your hand with no buttons on it but you could still do all the things I just listed at any given time you want whether you were swimming with it or waking on the sidewalk with it or in a plane and you could talk to people on it. I am pretty sure you would be thrown in an insane assylum and looked at as a drain on society.

@sachxtrem: I think that if anything people would be more accepting of biological solutions. Literally almost everything I'm hearing is robotics. People, just because human biology is limited doesn't mean the same for the rest of the creatures on the planet. Take the rhinoceros beetle, scaled up to human size it could potential lift like 50 times its weight! Instead of replacing human parts with robotic parts, what about altering human muscles to be more like the beetle's? Heck, with the discovery of electric bacteria, you may not even need to be a mechanical organism to manipulate electricity! Point is biology is far from a dead field, and I want superpowers before I upload my mind! After I do that, you may as well call the game of life as we know it over! Of course that may allow us to go beyond, but my point still stands that research should be put into biotech improvements.

+rogueaire How do you suppose we study these things without creating them and seeing how they perform? Surely not every human being on Earth will do this all at once, there will be plenty who will be smart and sit back and watch what happens. Same goes for GMOS (even though the science backing your horseshit about how they're bad has been proven wrong time and time again) we created them, now we observe the effects. Turns out they greatly help developing countries that have troubles with food shortage, and that the seeds are better in lifespan, plant size, quantity, and germination than traditional seeds. However, we have noticed that pesticide isn't good for the body, and that is an entirely different story I don't want to get in to, but could be related to GMOS. TL;DR We have to make them dang robits and observe how they act before we can get accurate data to study. duh. Not like you can get accurate data from something that doesn't exist. Ex: God.

The collective humanity stands at above 7.1 billion. The elite and the lack of resources they claim the earth has does not allow for 7.1 billion patrons of earth to become essentially super humans. 2,000 years ago, the Bible hit the nail on the head about the 2045 initiative: Revelation 9:6: "And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them." Evolution is not the way to eternal life - only through Jesus Christ can we overcome this world: John 16:33 - "I have spoken these things to you, that in me you shall have peace; in the world, you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world." God didn't need us to create the stars, and he certainly didn't need us to resurrect Jesus Christ, and he certainly does not want us to entertain such eternal thoughts of man-made eternity.

@yippeeyokai57509 жыл бұрын
Because the matrix takes place a few hundred years in the future, Imagine how a scenario like the one we see in the Matrix Trilogy would come about in real life. First we have to create robots that can think for them selves, then we must create a virtual reality so real that we can't tell the difference between reality and fantasy. Then at some point the robots might develop a sense of free will, and realize they don't have to serve humanity at all, realizing also that humanity could be a valuable source of power, and yes that is possible because of all the electricity we produce in our bodies. Realizing that humans will fight them as long as we're awake, they decided to put us in a virtual dream state. All of these technologies are being developed at the same time and could lead to a Matrix like future. This VR is dangerous in that it can become addictive.

The human nature is too fear what we don't understand and has held back so many things. Its time for us to grow up and i mean really grow up. We care about mindless things. let me ask you this have you ever accepted the fact that your whole life cycle is : being born, being raised (which ever way) getting a job ,working until your old and die that's it( no details included). That's the fate of a average human being and your kids will have a high chance of doing the same exact thing. To keep each other entertained we laugh or view other peoples problems or success and even their daily lives( no details included this is just the main premise).If you really think that this isn't better than life right now you have no individuality as a person.
@theellimist350410 жыл бұрын
Why are you demonizing the life cycle? There's nothing wrong with being born, working, and dying. That's how we've made progress for the last 200,000 years or so. With immortality, you end the continuous circle and make it a long, never-changing line, that is even more perpetually _mediorce_ than living and dying. Immortality may even slow down or stop progress entirely. Why would we need to innovate further when we're immortal? The entire reason we know what we know about biology and physics is because we wanted to know how we got sick and died. I know you probably hear this a lot, but immortality would be _boring_. At first it'll be great, you'll build amazing structures, do amazing things, travel between planets, solar systems, galaxies. But the thing about time is that (from what we know about it) it repeats itself. The universe is very repetitive, time is not just a line of new experiences, it's a repetitive circle, like all life cycles. If you watch Adventure Time, there's an episode called "Dungeon Train" (you can watch it online) where the main character (Finn) comes across a train that travels not straight, but in a continuous loop. In every cart there are a couple monsters, along with a boss. After beating the boss, he comes back to the original cart, with the same monsters only differently colored. There is sometimes a different monster type (Wizard apes made of hair XD) but not often. Finn is a teenage boy, he has a short attention span and doesn't pay attention to this, but his adopted brother Jake the Dog notices. This is sort of like how time is. You have things from seasons to events repeating each other, if you look at history. If you don't have a short attention span like Finn, you'll notice. As quadrillions of years go by (Not even a millionth of what immortality will be like) you'll notice the repetition in events, in nature, and in the cosmos, and you'll realize why life was supposed to be an ending cycle. Even the "immortal" jellyfish (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turritopsis_dohrnii) only does so by repeating it's life cycle by returning to polyp state. You'll eventually go insane from these continuous cycles of experiences, with death being the one experience you'll never have. Another thing. Towards the end of the episode, Finn gets an orb that can see into the future as loot from one of the monsters. He sees himself, old and covered in plunder, having a good time. But next to him is Jake, old and bedraggled with loot, sadly following Finn, never leaving the train all because he cared about his best friend. You may want to live a life of continuous cycles, but be careful of the people you drag along with you. I want to live, get old and die, and that's what a lot of other people want to do to. Not because that's what everyone else wants, but because as individuals they don't want to live for googol^googol^googol(www.stanford.edu/~nitsche/cgi-bin/numbers.pl?googol Yea, immortality will be _way_ longer than that squared by itself twice) years, seeing the same shit repeat itself. It's not anti-individualistic. It's life. Live it, instead of this dream/nightmare.
@blackops1235610 жыл бұрын
TheEllimist see that may be fine for you and other people who want to follow the cycle but for people like me who thinks it is the most simplest way to live a life, I will pass on that.If you want to be part of a cycle by all means " live it up , *its your life do what you want to do*. The only thing im am doing is pointing out the fact is that if you died right here and now only a few people will remember you and a hundred years from now you will be part of that generation and the only names that will be mention will be the presidents and famous people .Anything you have done or haven't done will be meaningless. How does that make you feel i want an honest response.
@theellimist350410 жыл бұрын
Augmentaion How does that make me feel? I don't give a _fuck_. What 7 billion people think of me and whether or not 7 billion people remember me when I die doesn't matter, only the people that care for me and loved me matter. It won't be any different when we're immortal cyborgs or whatever. A lot of people will still be just like everyone else, even more so since they'll be no skin color or differentiation in culture. Just like now, unless you do something particularly amazing to make you stand out, you will be _just as like everyone else_, only difference is the fun you have with you family will get old after about 10,000 years, any relationship you have will get old over time, they'll be nothing you can do that makes you stand out that no one else can do. Have fun living for googols and googols.
@theellimist350410 жыл бұрын
Augmentaion If you think living your life to the expectations of the whole world is the way to live, and immortality is the way to do it, you have insecurity issues “I wanted you to see something about her-I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do. Mrs. Dubose won, all ninety-eight pounds of her. According to her views, she died beholden to nothing and nobody. She was the bravest person I ever knew.” -Atticus Finch, _To Kill a Mockingbird_

I hope it happens this way (or something like it,) but there was a lot of expectation and not a lot of specificity about *how* we get there. Imagine asking someone in 1929 to describe what happens in the next 30 years. Would they predict WWII, the Great Depression, and atomic weapons? Television? How much crap do we need to deal with immediately? Who decides what we deal with first? Or *how* we deal with it? Crowdsource a bunch of non-experts, or rely on our fearless leaders to choose some experts for us? Trust Winnie the Pooh's government? Vlad the Impaler? Trumpster Fire? Who do we trust and why? Maybe it'll work out, but we really need to make a science of ethics so we can recognise a "best available" solution when we see it.

Jesus IS COMING TO DESTROY THOSE WHO ARE DESTROYING THE EARTH, and its inhabitants. His Salvation is free: He paid a heavy price for it, but you must ask for it, and believe in Him, and turn your life over to Him...NOT to these destroyers who hate us and want us gone. There is no life without death, and no death without life. You can't have the one without the other. You won't become immortal by becoming a lifeless, emotionless machine imitating emotions. No matter how advanced the technology gets, you simply CAN'T replicate an emotion artificially -- it would be as though you're trying to replicate fire or water. You may achieve imitating it to the utmost degree, but that would just be the result of mechanical processes, algorithms, and data firing all at once, not natural, genuine, or authentic, just a copy -- a desperate attempt at it. It's simply impossible. Transhumanists: get over your fear of death. Death is not a bad thing. It is as good or bad and as necessary as life. You can't live forever. Period. Evolution is not advanced technology but advanced HUMAN consciousness beyond mere matter. "The more a thing tends to be permanent, the more it tends to be lifeless." Alan Watts

Where's a chance for any random person from the internet to go and participate? This project seems pretty closed - extremely hypocritical given its cited goals. No one organization should even attempt solving "human problems" and inventing "neo humanity" without inviting the public en masse. I haven't found any way to read more or to take part. As it stands now, I have a feeling this project will be only for a few lucky ones. In my opinion, we as humanity should by all means start funding more scientific and academic research in all fields, but at the same time we should sit down and think really hard about what we're doing. Listen to Alan Watts, Robert Anton Wilson, Terence McKenna... there's a big project ahead of us, the most complex and hardest of all and it's called "sit down and think really hard about what you're doing". This 2045 stuff about avatars is great, but just like the Venus Project and others, we can no longer just rely on its technocratic, techno-optimistic message.

Here's some other vital issues: What if "death" is not a problem or final and what if we are all immortal already? What if avoiding death keeps us in an incomplete state? On the other hand, what if the life we know of now is the best thing that has ever happened to existence? What if it truly is a good thing to extend the lifespan of ourselves? The way I see it, even if there are amazing things after death, those who wish to stay behind and remain immortal in their current awareness and consciousness should have the right to do so. I suppose everyone should have the right to avoid death or extend their lifespan just the same as everyone should have the right to choose not to avoid death and instead pass on when it is time for them to go.

If anything I imagine that some governments would protest it happening. When it eventually becomes legal (as most things end up) people will protest and kick and scream. Things will die (lol) down but eventualy will end nothing but tension.
@crawlFace10 жыл бұрын
Jackson Stone Lol, yeah once legal your immortality will be taxable. There will be immortal upkeep costs and an obligation for immortals to fund welfare programs for the mortals. It is highly likely that most immortals will eventually be rich, lol. Maybe the first wave of immortals will be for civil services, stuff like medical and emergency response, police force and military. I suspect eventually most government employees will be immortal or at least the politicians. Eventually a very wise immortal will become president, hopefully before a very corrupt one does. Immortal advertising slogans to encourage supporters: "Choose the real pro-life" "Death, why risk it?" "God can wait" "Think of the difference you can make" "Stay awhile" "Master life" What good is immortality without the technology to meet the needs of the immortal? Wouldn't there be a very big issue with over population? Immortals would lead the movement of colonizing other planets. That would be pretty cool.
@jacksonstone369110 жыл бұрын
There is also the matter of extra senses. Im certain that for each new feature or upgrade you get you will need to pay Uncle Sam. We also have to consider the people who use their immortality for the not so good purposes... I can only imagine the privacy issues that come up when the government tries to hack into your brain. I can't see that going over well and I'm guessing some immortals will bypass security and safety things or add their own custom upgrades to their body. I can just imagine the new body market.

On a more practical note, those of us that extend our lives via whatever technological advances, will be able to continue on our works. Think about it: imagine an "Einstein" continuing in his work, his passions, his way of thinking w/o having someone else have to attempt to pick up where he left off. Or an Edison, Tesla, Curie, Hawking, etc for that matter. We would not have to lose these great minds after such a short time.
