Universities are nonprofit or public institutions, funded not just by tuition, but by direct government funding, donations, an endowment, and sports. The only scams are the online and for-profit schools (including trade schools) and services like textbooks. Capitalism is great but there are such things as "market failure" (the technical term), which exists in the healthcare industry, the education industry, and in anything that pollutes. Basically where a market incentivizes the wrong outcome BOTH for individuals AND for society as a whole.

lemon California.
@enucleatustertium42435 жыл бұрын
@@jamesb93612 that explains a lot . California usually pays more, on average, for most professions and let me tell you that there is a reason for it. The cost of living is extremely high in CA. If the caller lives in an area where the cost of living is lower, they are actually making the equivalent you make if not more. It all has to do with the cost of living and take home pay. Which in California for someone in your tax bracket might be about 9-10%. Some states don't have state income taxes or are relatively lower at around 4% and in most states property taxes are less than 1% whereas in California are much more higher. I don't know the exact percentage but I know people that have to pay between 4 and 10k a year. All these thing along with the cost of living in California, believe me it's expensive. I know since I've lived in many places California included. I'd have to make about 130 to 150% more in California than in most places just to have the same lifestyle elsewhere. So the way I see it, it is not a disparity in salary, it's more about the economics and cost of living relative to the area where you live. congratulations on your good salary and good job sir!
@jamesb936125 жыл бұрын
Enucleatus Tertium actually, where I am I within a few percent of the cost of living of where the caller is from. So not that much difference. I don’t live anywhere near the larger coastal cities. Cost of living is not really a factor in this instance. That is why I was surprised.

Once you enter in income based repayment and you file taxes together you have combined the loans. If you do not combine the loans you will need to file married separate and forgo any tax benefits.

Rice and beans should be the standard diet during the beginning of everyone’s career instead of being used as a fix to stupid debt. I became a self employed farmer at the age of nineteen and also worked in an outside career. Not only did I not have time to cook rice and beans, but I didn’t even have time to eat. But I stashed every penny that I could which was most of them! This may have had something to do with graduating high school during the dark days of recession during the 70’s and the need to feel more secure, but it also had everything to do with my current status of debt free living. Raise and beans and home grown tomato sandwiches is the best RX for your sick bank account!

Serious question: what constitutes beans and rice to Americans, to the point that your family thinks you’re crazy?? I come from an immigrant family, and only recently we’ve gotten up to the $50,000 range of income. Granted, we live in a cheaper area (but Colorado isnt that expensive). My parents have a mortgage, and we live fairly comfortably, I would def not call it rice and beans. How in the heck is living on 60k really frugal, even if the cost of living was a bit higher? To me, 30k would be beans and rice, not 60.

Hi Dave, I am currently trying to get a loan for new-construction-to-permanent loan and was wondering if it is reasonable for me to ask the lender for list of fees that I will incur to obtain the loan for the construction (closing cost.)
