I am 61. Live in California 🤔. Have 6 kids and a sick husband who never could keep a job. He passed away at 49 years old. All my life I worked as a caregiver mostly for my needy family and for outside people as needed. I started working with $4.75 in late 80s and I am payed $18.50 now/ in 2024. Didn’t know about Ramsey till recently but with God’s help, being frugal and not making wrong decisions with the money that God entrusted me, I managed to pay all my debts except the mortgage which is only $50,000. more and I will be free of debt. Not mentioning that attached to my house I have a rental already bringing me income and I’m working on the second apartment on the same property. So what I’m saying NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU MAKE, MATTERS HOW MUCH YOU SAVE. And how you make use of the money God entrusted you with.

I started with Dave Ramsey when I graduated college in 2009 and I started a corporate engineering job. Became a net worth millionaire in 2017. Currently my net worth is about $5 million. Lived super frugally on a small portion of my income and invested the rest…. Boom it’s that simple. I believe anyone can become a multi-millionaire. Now I’ve always saved for retirement and put away the max towards my 401k at work since age 25, but I’ve never gotten serious about getting rid of my student loans until I watched the show. Coming out with 140k in student loans makes me feel like it’s hopeless until you really get aggressive with pay it off. Once I followed the baby steps… that loan went away quickly and without loans, I never slept better… a whole weight was off me… and I finally can see how I can take that money invest it and see it quickly amass. Within 1 year, got me to a million. Cutting back, rice and beans were tough to do but the freedom it brings now… 100% worth it. Worth the short term sacrifice for the long term mental freedom.

For the average Joe, however, I think it is just best to invest in the S&P 500, and just wait, which is reliable, albeit extremely long-- lots of years. I wanted to be debt free before I proposed to my (now) wife. I told her as much Did everything I could to accelerate the process and did it 6 month earlier than she thought (because I was working overtime and taking extra jobs). It was a terrific motivator. I didn't do it for me, or her.. but for us and our future.

So many people have a misconception of becoming "wealthy." The very word Wealthy has been made a negative word, drumming up the vision of Scrooge. These who view wealth in this way are ignorant. They miss what baby step 7 ends with, " live like no one else, so that later you can Live and Give like no one else. Dave isn't hoping that those who become debt free and wealthy become Scrooges, but become a blessing to their family and those in need. It's what money does that's important.
