Nice video!!! I made two of these last year and basically used your same methodology. A couple of changes for what it is worth: To anchor the base, I dug a 24 inch (two feet) hole and permanently cemented a 24 inch PVC tube with a 2 1/2 inch diameter FLUSH to the ground (so that I can mow over it during the summer). After I took the "tree" down, I put jar covers securely over the tubes to keep debris from getting in there during the off-season. Before the cement "sets", I put a temporary short pole inside of the PVC tube and by using a level, made sure it was plumb to the ground. Second, I bought a 25 foot telescoping pole on Amazon and placed the base of the pole INSIDE the PVC tubes in the ground. Then I attached my lights (at ground level) at the top then extend the pole upwards until all of the light strings were taut. I'm 63 yo and this made it much easier to raise the lights by myself (with no ladders) while standing on ground level. This year it took me just over an hour from beginning to end to set the whole thing up. Just thought I'd share for anyone else thinking about doing this. Happy Holidays my friend!

Thank you for watching! This is an excellent idea, especially to make it easy year after year. I've thought about using a telescopic pole before, but was always worried how they would hold up with the wind and weight of it all. I may have to give it a try!!

@@OutoftheWeeds Hey! Thanks for following up! The advantage of using a telescoping aluminum pole is: 1. It's easy to "tighten" the entire tree as needed as the light strings stretch, 2. It's lightweight and easy to manage, 3. If you know it is going to be exceptionally windy (or even just more than normal) it takes seconds to collapse the pole to about 6 feet (leaving 2 feet still in the PVC tube in the ground) then raise it up again after the wind subsides. Here's the trick: always leave about two feet between pole sections (never extend it all the way!) and use pipe clamps (the ones you tighten with a screwdriver) ABOVE the pole clamps so they don't slip under the weight when wet. I also used icicle lights to give my trees more of a "3D" look from the street. Also used trampoline stakes at the ground which, trust me will not pull out easily. Thank you for refining and sharing your tree. I am definitely going to make one but it’ll probably be half as tall. 😊

Thank you for watching! My dad does a very similar tree to mine but it's 10ft instead of 20ft. Instead of using black pipe (which makes the tree very heavy) he uses like 2in pvc pipe. He first takes a 4ft 1 3/4in. Wooden dowel and pounds it into the ground. Then after stringing the lights and star, just slides the pvc pole over it. At 20ft I had to go to something more sturdy than pvc but at 10ft pvc works great!

@@OutoftheWeedsyou could use 2 stars and join them so that it's multi dimensional. Fold each star into a 90° V and join with zipties.
