Hostels used to be clean, and really cheap, like 1/12th the price of a midrange hotel room per person, even during busy season in an expensive city like Stockholm or Brussels. You could get a room with only 3 beds. Now it's half the price of a midrange hotel room PER PERSON. And you have 9 beds to a room. Some people stumbling in late drunk, someone else up at 430 making noise, everyone snoring, stinking, or just taking all the oxygen. No thanks. I don't know what happened. I wonder if investors bought up all the hostels and now run them to squeeze out maximum profit?

@@rebeccafoster-faith688updated aging; pregnancy pillows are great for teenagers and getting older alike. Traveling with them, the biggest headache is getting them in and out of the covers.. which makes packing them easier. Though shipping some of your stuff ahead of time can sometimes save you money and headache despite risks (loss, delays, etc). toilet seat risers - a bit more awkward to travel with but then you don't face the threat of having a toilet that's too low. More of a concern for tall people or those with joint, back and/or mobility problems. Same with a shower stool and bidet mods, etc. (also, fuctional for (camping) glamping. just add off grid power source and back up supply, though there are portable (squeeze bottle) bidets and the seat riser works just as well with a hole over the ground.. albeit, gotta diy an outhouse for additional comforts.) Food. Foodie tours can sometimes save you $ but they don't tend to be kid friendly. But you're bound to find some affordable markets/restaurants/vendors (maybe even a few nearby small farms) on your own, so spices, condiments and an electric wok (or whatever) can also help lessen the burdens. Freeganism options are everywhere too. Air travel snacks with rugrats in tow - pockets, pockets, pockets. You're old, you don't need to be fashionable for just the airport. Tho, there are a few compact snacks. It's an acquired taste but if you can turn your kids onto seaweed snacks.. some are paper thin, easily compressed, lightweight (albeit, you can DIY just about anything for your travel/tsa needs). Or give them a spice jar and building up those future drinking skills, of salt, lick, drink, repeat. . . to ward off hunger between destinations. now if I was turning into my mum, all I would need is noise cancellation headphones, a cooling eye mask, a seat cushion with back support and neck pillow, some medicated gummies and full body throw. tablet (and thumb drive with preloaded movies, music, books, if can't get decent wifi), puzzle books and a martini, if awakened.
