Love this. The Wembley concerts featured in Born To Boogie were brilliant but oh how I wish they'd filmed the T.Rexmas concerts in London in December 1972. A piece of rock history has been lost.
@kellyreade63559 жыл бұрын
+Andy T.Rex I so agree, I wish we had more T Rex live film footage, but it just did not happen. I would not trade the Wembley evening show in particular for anything; it captured them at their very best. It was T.Rex in their prime. :) And the crowd was so into them, both of those shows that day. But the T Rexmas concerts would have been fantastic to see. I've seen some superb photos from them. Would have dearly loved to have had those on film.

Marc Bolan is one of my biggest influences and heroes, but i think he could have used a lead guitarist. Rhythm and Riffs are his VERY strong suit, but he kinda noodles around when he goes to a lead. Don't get me wrong, i love his work more than most, and i thank my HS Art instructor immensely for turning me on to T•Rex in 1979. It is just ImHO that he could have taken almost perfect songs, and put them over the top with a dedicated lead guitarist, taking some of the load off. i also want to firmly impress that his ability to play fantastic rhythm, and tear off some crazy good riffs, such as the opening riff on this masterpiece is more than remarkable. So please be nice, i am not here to knock him in any way. He influenced my playing greatly. For a one guitar band, he had HUGE sound. If you disagree, please be civil, and we can discuss. i am not trolling, and wont engage with any ad hominem, or rude posts. Marc the person was, and his Music is still too good for any of us to get into mudslinging. Its merely my opinion and observation as a musician/producer.
@hannutakalo9318 жыл бұрын
+Kilgore Trout Maybe Marc´s solo was the best, when He didn´t do it like Hendrix-way, just simple and Trully He was rhythm player (just like me). When He started electric (exp. Ride a White Swan), I really like that playing, but in the later T.Rex albums, really I miss a solo guitarist!
@kilgoretrout39668 жыл бұрын
i love playing "Ride a White Swan" a ton. i am a rhythm, with riff type of player, with the occasional lead...depending on the bassist i have. One thing that is a trademark of Marc's hits, is the E - A - B chord pattern. Effective as heck. Its on "Swan", "Get it On", "20th Century" and others, but you wouldn't notice that too easily by merely listening, because he had 2 big things that you can't teach, which are Texture, and amazing Feel. There are few Popular Music Players that i love playing the music of. Keith Richards uses much of Marc's style and influence. A very good way to go as a guitar player.
@Tungadunger7 жыл бұрын
Kilgore Trout - I agree, he was one of the best rhythmic players I've ever heard in fact I can't think of anybody else close to his level. That said he could have benefitted from a Page, Beck, Clapton or Knopfler soloist over top of his rhythm but the argument could be made that his music was more about call and response groove than showy soloing. Besides a solo is only maybe 10% of a song and his "noodling" does fill that well enough and being the only guitarist in the band it is hard to keep the rhythm going while also soloing. Trevor Boulder was a great Bassist but the T. Rex sound needed Marc's chugga chugga guitar going to propel that essential call and response forward.
@mumblesslam6 жыл бұрын
Fuck you, like Marc needed or would even let a lead guitarist steal his shine. You must never have heard his solo on "Endless Sleep."
@tatethompson12346 жыл бұрын
As a guitarist myself, I'd say Marc was a lot like Pete Townshend, a master of Rhythm, but when those little sloppy leads came in it was magic and ready to fall apart any second and last few notes they'd bring you back in. Rock n Roll isn't meant to be perfect. Give me raw emotion than someone who will noodle and shred a million notes with no feeling.
