I almost never watch streams, but I did happen to watch the second half of this live. I'm glad I caught this upload, because I was so confused about where the category for the record was listed. I saw the all-FDS list, but that obviously wasn't the right one... Just didn't check the misc. tab for some reason. Anyway, seems watching your stream brought me good vibrations, as I finally managed to get a sub 3 for Deepest Sword an hour after it ended. Been working on that for weeks! Guess I'll have to tune in more often.

The 999 timer glitch exists here because it was copied directly from Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. But in All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. it was fixed so that the timer digits are checked before the routine to get the points for time remaining is executed, which means that if you attempt this glitch in that title you won't get the 999 anymore.

I've played Mario 2 (Lost Levels), Mario 1, Fake Mario 2 (U.S. Mario 2), and Mario 3, and I feel like people really misconceive the difficulty of Real Mario 2 (LL). For me, the hardest one was Fake Mario 2, as I literally spent hours on it for 2 days in a row before I finally beat it. Just in case anyone's curious, I played it on my NES, so I was playing it as originally intended - which means no saving. Honestly, playing games authentically is something that I usually prefer, not fear. I'm probably just about the only person who plays DS games on their 3DS, but refuses to use the Circle Pad. (Because the DS ONLY had a D-Pad, and so I play as you would have originally had to play.)

yeah smb2 usa is literally harder than this game. That's partially due to limited continues, but the game itself is just deceptively hard. Anyone who doesn't think it's a hard game hasn't played it recently, lol. That's why it really annoys me when people constantly say the misconstrued idea that "they didnt release 2j outside of japan because it was too hard for americans." Super Mario USA is literally HARDER lol.

The movement in All stars engine is quite a bit different, but it's mostly noticeable when playing yourself

The piranha plant hitboxes are fixed, podaboos always go to the top of the screen, and a coral in one of the water levels is missing. I remember watching a race where they talked about breakable blocks sometimes pull you up, killing momentum, but I'm not sure. I know FDS version (I watched your vid, Kosmic) has a faster WR than All Stars, so I imagine some other engine changes somewhere...
